Katy Perry superfan from Alberta basks in newfound fame, puts Medicine Hat on the map
Perry, who is in Canada performing several shows on her Lifetimes Tour, invited concertgoer Braiden Palumbo on stage during a stop in Vancouver.
Palumbo travelled all the way from Redcliff, Alta., to attend the show. Now, his neighbours are recognizing him from the cute interaction, which somewhat schooled Perry on small-town Prairie life.
'People come into the gas bar all the time and they don't even buy anything, they just want to take a picture with me,' he said on Tuesday. 'Growing up in a small town, only the people in the small town know who you are.'
In the video, Palumbo tells Perry he is from Medicine Hat, which is a small city in southeastern Alberta that's very close to his hometown. The animated pop star looks bewildered and plays to the cheering crowd, saying she needs 'to study better geography.'
'Your hats are filled with medicine? Well you know for us Americans you are our medicine hats, we love it,' she says jokingly.
From there, Perry was in for another lesson when the 20-year-old reveals he works at a Co-op gas bar.
'I'm sorry but you guys are way advanced, what is a Co-op gas bar?' she asks.
When the fan explains it is just a gas station, Perry goes on to say 'it sounds really fancy.'
Perry, who also made news this week after dining out with former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sparking romance rumours, is known for interacting with fans during her extravagant performances.
Palumbo said he is grateful to have had that shared moment with Perry, and to put a small town on the map.
'I am a huge Katy Perry fan for as long as I can remember,' Palumbo said.
When Perry began calling people on stage, Palumbo didn't think he would be one of them. That was, until she started walking towards audience members who were further back in the section he was in.

'I knew that that was my moment to shine,' he recalls. He said all he could think of doing to get her attention was raise his arms and scream will full force.
'I was just screaming, 'Pick me, Pick me!' You need to notice me,' he recalls.
The video was originally shared by @vancouver.alex on TikTok and has garnered over 750,000 views since being posted four days ago, leaving fans desperately questioning if Perry will visit Medicine Hat in future tours.
Palumbo has also since changed his profile picture on Instagram to a selfie of him with Perry.

Comedian Matt Rife is now the legal guardian of ‘haunted' Annabelle doll
Comedian Matt Rife is taking his interest in the paranormal to the next level, announcing that he's recently purchased the famed Connecticut home and museum that houses the allegedly haunted Raggedy Ann doll, Annabelle. Rife announced over the weekend that he and YouTuber Elton Castee have purchased the home and museum belonging to famed paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren and are now tasked with taking care of the home's contents, including Annabelle, the spooky attraction's crown jewel. Jessica Moore/Hartford Courant/Tribune News Service via Getty Images 'We are the legal guardians and caretakers of all 750 haunted artifacts and items in the Warren Museum, including the Annabelle doll. I must go on record and say we do not legally own items, but we are the legal guardians and caretakers of the items for at least the next five years,' Rife, 29, said in an Instagram video on Saturday, clarifying that while he now owns the Warren Occult Museum, he's not the owner of the 750 curios inside. Story continues below advertisement Tony Spera, the Warrens' son-in-law and co-director of the late couple's organization, New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR), told that he and his wife still own the collection, including the Annabelle doll, and are only leasing them to Rife and Castee. So I'm incredibly honored to have taken over one of the most prominent properties in paranormal history. The NESPR has long claimed Annabelle is attached to 'an inhuman demonic spirit.' Paranormal investigator Zak Bagans told US Weekly that the doll is known to move on its own, leave messages on paper for its owners and change positions. Rife's guardianship of the doll comes just weeks after NESPR investigator Dan Rivera died suddenly in his hotel room while showcasing the doll on the national Devils on the Run Tour. 0:35 Paranormal investigator carrying 'possessed' Annabelle doll dies suddenly According to E! In his video, Rife acknowledged the potential risks he's taking in living under the same roof as Annabelle. 'This is the most random hobby ever, but it's so f—ing cool, man,' he said. 'I should probably collect stamps or something — might be a little safer.'

‘Ketamine Queen' accused of selling Matthew Perry fatal dose gets September trial date
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A woman charged with selling Matthew Perry the dose of ketamine that killed him is headed for a September trial. Jasveen Sangha's trial — the only one forthcoming in the death of the 'Friends' star after four other defendants reached plea agreements with prosecutors — is now set to begin Sept. 23 after an order Tuesday from a federal judge in Los Angeles. The 42-year-old Sangha, who prosecutors say was known to her customers as 'The Ketamine Queen,' is charged with five counts of ketamine distribution, including one count of distribution resulting in death. She has pleaded not guilty and has been held in federal custody since her arrest last year. Her trial had been scheduled to start Aug. 19, but the judge postponed it for the fourth time since her April 2024 indictment after both sides agreed it should be moved. Sangha's lawyers said they needed the time to go through the huge amount of evidence they have received from the prosecution and to finish their own investigation. Sangha was one of the two biggest targets in the investigation of Perry's death, along with Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who pleaded guilty to ketamine distribution last month. Perry's personal assistant, his friend and another doctor also entered guilty pleas and are cooperating with prosecutors. All are awaiting sentencing. Perry, who was found dead at age 54 at his home on Oct. 23, 2023, had been getting ketamine from his regular doctor for treatment of depression, an increasingly common off-label use for the surgical anesthetic. But prosecutors say when the doctor wouldn't give Perry as much as he wanted, he illegally sought more from Plasencia, then still more from Sangha, who they say presented herself as 'a celebrity drug dealer with high quality goods.' Perry's assistant and friend said in their plea agreements that they acted as middlemen to buy large amounts of ketamine for Perry from Sangha, including 25 vials for $6,000 in cash a few days before his death. Prosecutors allege that included the doses that killed Perry.

Sydney Sweeney's controversial jeans ad draws praise from President Trump
U.S. President Donald Trump is commending Sydney Sweeney for her recent American Eagle campaign, following a wave of social media backlash over its messaging. The denim brand's latest advertisement, fronted by the Euphoria actor, whose tagline plays on the words 'jeans' and 'genes,' has been criticized for its celebration of traits typically associated with whiteness. 'Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair colour, personality and even eye colour. My jeans are blue,' Sweeney says in the ad, which appears to have been scrubbed from the internet. Other versions still remain, such as this one, below. Story continues below advertisement On Monday, Trump told a reporter while disembarking a plane in Pennsylvania, 'Oh, she's a registered Republican, oh, now I love her ad. If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic,' he said. His comments followed a claim that The White Lotus star registered with the Republican Party ahead of the 2024 U.S. presidential election. (Several news outlets confirmed and corroborated with publicly available records that Sweeney is a registered Republican. Global News has not reviewed the public records and thus cannot confirm Sweeney's membership.) 'Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the 'HOTTEST' ad out there. It's for American Eagle, and the jeans are 'flying off the shelves.' Go get 'em Sydney,' he wrote. Story continues below advertisement American Eagle has defended the campaign, saying it is simply referring to the colour of Sweeney's jeans. The campaign 'is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone,' the retailer wrote on Instagram. The message marked the first response from the brand following days of backlash since the campaign's launch last week. In the run-up to its release, the company's chief marketing officer told trade media outlets that it included 'clever, even provocative language' and was 'definitely going to push buttons,' The Associated Press reported. Story continues below advertisement Some critics have argued that the 'genes' 'jeans' wordplay is a nod, whether intentional or not, to eugenics, a discredited theory that held humanity could be improved through selective breeding for certain traits, including blue eyes and blonde hair. Wilson / Getty Images Others have accused those knocking the campaign of reading too deeply into the messaging and imagery. Some marketing experts said the buzz is always good, even if it's not uniformly positive. 'If you try to follow all the rules, you'll make lots of people happy, but you'll fail,' Allen Adamson, co-founder of marketing consultancy Metaforce, said. 'The rocket won't take off.' Sweeney has not commented on the backlash or confirmed her political affiliations. — With files from The Associated Press
