The BEST summer tops on the high street if you have a fuller bust – from New Look to Primark

The Sun10-07-2025
FROM buttons gaping to squashed boobs and bra straps on show, 34G Abby McHale knows all too well the perils of shopping for summer tops when you have a fuller bust.
Here, the deputy fashion editor reveals the BEST summer tops on the high street right now.
LIME GREEN TOP, £19.99, NEW LOOK
ASYMMETRIC tops are pretty much a no-go for those wanting to wear a bra with straps.
But opting for one like this gives the asymmetric look, while still offering support with both straps.
Gold clasp detailing on the shoulder is also a big trend this summer, but often the detailing is too thin to wear a bra with.
That won't be a problem with this top, which also has stretchy fabric that allows plenty of room for your bust.
BLUE RUCHED TOP, £14, PRIMARK
RUCHING is a great design technique that is flattering for all.
It creates shape, skims the body and also adds interest to your outfit.
This top from Primark is not only great value, but with the ruching towards the bottom, it leaves room for your bust to breathe at the top.
It then hugs and shapes your waist below, creating a lovely silhouette.
RED TOP, £35, M&S

YOU can still wear long sleeves during the warmer weather, you just have to make sure it's the right fabric.
Linen is perfect as it's lightweight and airy.
Opt for a wrap style like this linen one from M&S. Not only does it give you a nice shape around your waist, but the adjustable tie detail means it works for all different bra sizes.
Perfect to wear with wide-leg trousers and flat sandals for an easy, stylish and comfortable summer look.
PINK TOP, £42, RIVER ISLAND
DON'T be afraid of buttons if you have a fuller bust. There are options out there that don't gape.
This piece from River Island only has three buttons, which are situated lower down the top, meaning there is far less chance of gaping.
It also has a V-neckline and darts down either side of the bust to create a gorgeous shape.
Other shades available include red and white.
LILAC TOP, £19.99, UNIQLO
THIS vest top is a new addition for the brand, which is known for its innovative designs.
It features built-in bra support so you don't have to wear a bra if you don't want to.
However, if you're still after more support, the straps are thick enough for you to pop one on underneath.
With its smooth fabric, plus cooling and deodorising features woven in, this vest is one hard-working top.
BROWN TOP, £22, NEXT
IF you are a fan of a square neckline but want a sleeve, then look for tops like this from Next.
It still has the stretchy fabric that is ideal for a fuller bust, but has little sleeves covering the shoulders.
For only £22, this is a real wardrobe staple and comes in other colours such as pale yellow, black and white.
The soft-to-touch butter fabric makes this a really comfortable option, too.
POLKA DOT, £12,99, ZARA
ZARA isn't usually a store you would associate with dressing for fuller busts, but surprisingly they have a lot of great options for bargain prices.
Take this top for just £12.99, with thick straps you can wear a bra underneath and the stretchy fabric means no squashing.
It's also TikTok approved, with many users raving about how well the top suits larger chests, plus the polka-dot is one of the biggest prints of the summer.
Ticking every box.
PALE PINK TOP, £18.99, H&M
CAMI tops are normally a popular pick for summer, but showing your bra straps underneath ruins the look.
For just under £20, this one from H&M gives the illusion of a cami style, with thicker straps to make it bra-friendly.
The ruched detailing around the middle also makes it extra-stretchy, meaning it's a great fit for all bust sizes.
PALE YELLOW TOP, £12.50, F&F AT TESCO
SQUARE necklines are also another good option for a larger chest as they create a flattering shape around the decolletage.
For just £12.50, this pale yellow top from F&F at Tesco does just that, with stretchy fabric making it hug around your bust.
Once again, thicker straps mean it's perfect for wearing a bra underneath and pale yellow is on trend this summer.

DEPUTY Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in: The supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, as you head in to do your weekly food shop you can also pick up a selection of purse-friendly, stylish pieces for all the family. Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent increase in the quarter thanks to a 'strong growth in clothing' and M&S has earnt the title of the number one destination for womenswear on the high street. Asda's clothing line George has made £1.5 million for the supermarket in 2023, 80 per cent of Sainsbury's clothes sold at full price rather than discounted and Nutmeg at Morrisons sales are also up 2 per cent in the past year. So what is it about supermarket fashion that is becoming so successful? Apart from the clothing actually being affordable, it's good quality too - with many being part of schemes such as the Better Cotton Initiative. A lot of the time they keep to classic pieces that they know will last the customer year after year. Plus because they buy so much stock they can turn around pieces quickly and buy for cheaper because of the volumes.

New Look's 'beautiful' £19 top looks 'just like' £80 luxury version

The retailer is selling a style similar to one offered by a luxury brand but it is a fraction of the price New Look is stocking a "beautiful" top that resembles a luxury style. The high street retailer is known for its affordable clothing and might have a new crowd pleaser on its hands. For shoppers looking for an asymmetrical style, New Look offers its Off Shoulder Scuba Top for £18.99. Four colors are available: black, off-white, light green, and light yellow. The top resembles a trending style that shoppers can expect to see lots of this summer, with everyone from Next to River Island stocking off-the-shoulder tops this season. What's more, New Look's top arguably looks similar to Reformation's Cello asymmetric ruched jersey top, which is £80 from Selfridges. Both tops offer an off-the-shoulder style with gathered detailing. However, they vary in length, as the New Look style has an asymmetrical hem. There are also differences in fabric. Reformation opted for 88% lyocell, 12% Spandex, while New Look opted for 96% Polyester and 4% Elastane. The product description for New Look's top states: "This off shoulder scuba top makes a great choice for dressing up or down. In black, it features an asymmetric design and a gathered side." Elsewhere, Selfridges says the Reformation top is "fitted, asymmetric neckline, ruching at front" with "midweight, slight stretch." Despite this, New Look's style could be just the ticket for fans of the style keen for a more affordable top. For shoppers looking for an alternative, options include Next's Drape Asymmetric One Shoulder Top, on sale for £11.50 from £28, or River Island's £39 Drape Scuba Top. The product description for the Drape Asymmetric One Shoulder Top states: "This stylish top has an asymmetric one-shoulder design with drape detailing, crafted from a soft and breathable jersey fabric, finished with a trimmed sleeve hem." Other off-the-shoulder styles include Mint Velvet's Sleeveless Knit Top, on sale for £39 from £79, and Nobody's Child's Off Shoulder Ruched Top, on sale for £23 from £45. The product description for the Shoulder Ruched Top, states: "Day-to-night dressing done right. Coming in chocolate brown, this bardot top is fitted in all the right places. Just add your favourite jeans." Nonetheless, shoppers might prefer New Look's Off Shoulder Scuba Top. The style has received high praise from an impressed reviewer, but not all feedback has been positive. Reviewing the style on New Look's website, one happy shopper wrote: "Beautiful yellow top very nice on." Less impressed, a reviewer wrote: "Not a great cut, looks funny." Someone else with mixed feedback shared: "The quality was good but it just didn't flatter my body type. it felt uncomfortable across my stomach but that's just me." To date, there are no more reviews. However, shoppers keen to read reviews before purchasing could check what's being said by New Look customers on Trustpilot for more customer feedback about sizing, quality, and delivery.

Primark shoppers will spot big change to mannequins used in store

Every aspect 'carefully considered' to make the models feel like 'more than just a mannequin' Primark will introduce its first seated mannequin, designed to represent a manual wheelchair user, in a selection of stores to enhance better representation of disability on the high street. Shoppers will see this in certain shops as the project takes off in certain UK stores and across parts of Europe. ‌ The model, who will be named Sophie, was inspired by and co-created with British television presenter, disability advocate and wheelchair user, Sophie Morgan. The mannequin will take centre stage in displays showcasing Primark's Adaptive range, the first major women's and men's fashion collection on the high street designed specifically for those with disabilities, as well as its main fashion ranges. ‌ Primark's Adaptive range, which launched in January, included wardrobe staples based on Primark's bestsellers, from trench coats and tees to jumpers and jeans, all with features designed around the needs of disabled people or those experiencing temporary disability. These include magnetic zippers, snap fastenings, waist loops and hidden openings for tube, stoma or catheter access. There is also a range of options for people who are seated, such as wheelchair users. ‌ Sophie Morgan, co-creator of the mannequin, said: 'This project is incredibly close to my heart - it's been over 15 years in the making. To now walk into a major high street retailer like Primark and see a mannequin that looks like me is deeply emotional. "Sophie represents more than just a mannequin, she's a symbol of progress and visibility. Working with Primark to create her has been a dream, every detail, from her posture to the design of the wheelchair as a natural extension of the body has been carefully considered to reflect the real lives of wheelchair users. I can't wait to see how people respond to her.' The journey to bring the mannequin to life spanned over a year and was led by Primark's Visual Merchandising team. Sophie played a central role in the design process, from mood boards and body measurements to reviewing 3D models and visiting the manufacturing site for final approvals. From the outset, both Primark and Sophie wanted to ensure the mannequin pose would be representative of a manual wheelchair user. In tandem, Primark's store design team worked with Sophie to develop a bespoke manual wheelchair prop that would work perfectly with the mannequin and be sturdy enough to withstand Primark's busy stores. Ann-Marie Cregan, trading director at Primark, said: 'This is another important milestone in our ambition to make Primark a more accessible place to shop and work. From introducing a wider range of mannequins to launching our Adaptive clothing range earlier this year, we've worked hard to better represent the diverse communities who shop with us. Seeing the 'Sophie' mannequin in our stores is a proud moment and a reflection of the brilliant collaboration between our teams and Sophie.' ‌ In 2024, Primark launched a series of commitments to make its business more accessible. These include offering more accessible products, creating inclusive store environments, fostering a culture of accessibility, ensuring diverse representation across its campaigns and working with organisations and charities that help to improve the lives of disabled people. Earlier this week, the retailer announced a new approach to kidswear, bringing more inclusive, comfort-led features into its core ranges. Changes include removing neck labels from over half of its clothing, including sweatshirts, joggers and pyjamas, and introducing new seamless and flat seam socks, designed to offer a smoother, more comfortable fit. Launching initially in 22 flagship stores across nine countries, Sophie will be used for displays in stores including Oxford Street East, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, and Leeds.
