WNBA fans fume as Angel Reese beats Caitlin Clark to prestigious honor
The Chicago Sky star joins Oklahoma City Thunder's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Carmelo Anthony in being named as a cover athlete for the popular game.
Speaking on her selection as a cover star, Reese told 2K: 'Being on the cover of NBA 2K26 and debuting my first-ever signature shoe with Reebok on that cover, the Angel Reese 1, is more than a milestone - it's a statement.
'It's about representation and showing young girls they can be confident, bold, and take up space unapologetically.
'To be cemented in NBA 2K history is a special honor that reflects not only my journey, but also all the veteran WNBA players who have paved the way before me and the growing impact of the league as a whole'.
While Reese beamed at 2K's decision to name her as a cover star, fans on social media were quick to suggest that Caitlin Clark should have been selected instead.
One fan wrote: 'Should have been Caitlin Clark'.
Similarly, another fan said: 'We all know it was supposed to be Clark'.
'Over CC? Something smells fishy,' another wrote.
One user said: 'Reese over clark is just another example of how 2k has fallen'.
One fan suggested a different WNBA star, as they wrote: 'Naphessa collier is having a MVP season but sure give it someone who shoots under 42% and leads the league in turnovers'.
The Chicago Sky star is currently averaging 13.2 points and 12.9 rebounds per game. She also made WNBA history recently as she became the first player in league history to get 15 or more rebounds in five straight games.
Reese and Clark were collegiate rivals before both being drafted into the league last year, where they have remained extremely competitive with one another.
Despite Reese's impressive season - which earned her a spot in the All-Rookie First Team and an All-Star selection - it was Clark who was named Rookie of the Year.
Fans piled onto social media to claim that 'it was supposed to be Clark' on the cover
Clark has also been named as one of the captain's for the upcoming WNBA All-Star game. She snubbed Reese, who will instead feature for Collier's team.
Meanwhile, back in May, Clark and Reese's rivalry reignited with the duo were involved in a heated on-court clash.
Tempers flared between the two women's basketball superstars when Reese took exception to Clark's hard foul with 4:38 left in the third quarter as the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky got their 2025 campaigns up and running.
After Reese grabbed an offensive rebound, Clark slapped the Sky forward across the arm, knocking the ball away and her arch-nemesis to the floor.
Angel, who was visibly furious, quickly jumped up and confronted Caitlin as Fever center Aliyah Boston jumped in between the two players.
Following a replay review, the referees upgraded the foul to a flagrant one and called double technical fouls on Boston and Reese. It was Clark's third personal foul.

Jake Paul shakes his head in frustration as Katie Taylor beats Amanda Serrano for a THIRD time on points
JAKE PAUL shook his head in frustration as Katie Taylor made it a clean sweep of wins over Amanda Serrano. Taylor took a split-decision in their 2022 original before winning the rematch last November in another controversial call. 3 But in the trilogy bout back at New York's Madison Square Garden - where the rivalry first began - Taylor put the final nail in the coffin. One judge scored the bout a 95-95 draw while the other two went 97-93 in the Irish icon's favour. As the verdicts were read out, Taylor jumped for joy, Serrano covered her face and YouTuber-turned boxer and promoter Paul shook his head. Puerto Rico's seven-division champion, 36, will feel hard done by walking away from the trilogy series empty handed. But Taylor, 39, said: "I don't think anybody could deny that I won tonight so it was very, very satisfying. 'The other previous fights some people had her winning, some people had me winning so there was always that debate and that's why there was a trilogy at the end of the day. 'I was coming into this trilogy 2-0 against her but there was controversy in those decisions so I feel very satisfied that it was lights out and I feel like it was a very, very dominant performance.' Taylor admits she felt some nerves when the drawn scorecards was announced but knew the bout was hers when the other two were read out. She said: 'I was a bit concerned but after I heard the other scorecards I was hoping my hand would be raised and thank God it was!' Taylor - undisputed in TWO weights - was probed on retirement in the aftermath but no decision will be rushed. She said: "I'm just going to enjoy this victory right now and sit back and reflect and then I'll make a decision. But very, very happy with tonight's performance. 'Just the amount of work we put in over these past few months, it was a gruelling few months of preparation and I'm so glad that I was able to showcase what I can do tonight.' 3

Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano 3 LIVE RESULTS: Epic trilogy ends in huge controversy AGAIN with majority decision win
KATIE TAYLOR beat Amanda Serrano YET AGAIN as their epic trilogy came to an end with a controversial split decision. In yet another brilliant fight between Taylor and Serrano, the fight was extremely close with both women leaving it all on the canvas. In front of a packed and raucous Madison Square Garden, Taylor made it 3-0 in their rivalry with a split decision which saw one judge score it a draw. The two stars earned an incredible £6.6MILLION ($9m) each for headlining an incredible all-women's card that saw SEVENTEEN world titles up for grabs. 11th Jul 2025, 23:07 By Connor Greaves The stage is set Taylor and Serrano will meet where it all began back in April 2022, Madison Square Garden. Another fight like the first would be a fitting end to a historic trilogy. By Connor Greaves Cameron eyeing Taylor vs Serrano winner English boxer Chantelle Cameron will be looking to set up a meeting with the winner of tonight's main event should she beat the experienced Jessica Camara. Cameron has already achieved something that Serrano has not in defeating Taylor. The 34-year-old stunned the world of boxing when she beat the Bray Bomber by majority decision in May 2023. The pair had a rematch, which Taylor won, but a decisive trilogy bout could be in the making should they both have their arms raised tonight. Speaking about a potential trilogy fight with Taylor, Cameron said: 'I'm told I will fight the winner of Katie versus Amanda, because I'm the WBC interim champion. 'I don't say I'm confident of getting a third fight with Katie though because the trilogy fight with her should have happened a long time ago. I've fought her in Dublin twice and she told me after the second one in the ring that the trilogy fight will happen. 'I thought it was signed and sealed, I agreed the date and venue, and I was actually taking less money for it than the first two fights. But then I got told she wanted an easier fight next and was fighting her mandatory instead of me. 'She didn't want to fight me again and has she changed her mind? Probably not.' 11th Jul 2025, 22:50 By Connor Greaves Tonight's card in FULL Fans are most looking forward to Taylor and Serrano's thrilling trilogy fight. But before that, boxing lovers will be able to watch Alycia Baumgardner's world title defence against Jennifer Miranda in the co-main event. Chelsea's Levi Colwill lauds ‘scary good' team-mate Cole Palmer
Levi Colwill believes the branding of Cole Palmer as 'scary good' suits his Chelsea team-mate perfectly. Palmer's face has been displayed on billboards with that slogan around New York this week as part of an advertising campaign for Nike ahead of Sunday's Club World Cup final. It underlines the 23-year-old's rapid rise since he quit his role as squad player at Manchester City to move to Stamford Bridge almost two years ago. 'It's amazing, seeing him everywhere around New York,' said defender Colwill ahead of this weekend's showpiece clash with Paris St Germain at the MetLife Stadium. 'It's surreal and I'm happy for him.' Asked if he feels Palmer is actually 'scary good', Colwill said: 'To say the least! He's an amazing player. That billboard suits him perfectly well.' Palmer, however, is known as a modest individual and appears to have taken the attention in his stride. Colwill said: 'I think he's seen them but you know Cole – he's not really blown away by much and I think that's what keeps him going.' Colwill insists Chelsea are certainly not scared heading into a match in which they are the clear underdogs. PSG have swept all before them in recent months. Having already won three domestic trophies, including a league and cup double, Luis Enrique's side produced a stunning performance to thrash Inter Milan 5-0 in the Champions League final in May. As if that was not enough, they offered a reminder of their formidable power in a 4-0 rout of Real Madrid in the semi-finals on Wednesday. Colwill said: 'They are an amazing team, but we are not Inter or Real Madrid. We're going to bring something different. We're different players and we're confident in ourselves to win the game. 'It's one game of football. I believe in us and I think we can beat anyone so we're going to take that confidence going into the game. 'We haven't just come here to be in the final, we want to win the competition.' Chelsea have already tasted some success this term having won the Europa Conference League. Colwill said: 'That helps a lot. This will be our second final of the season and it shows how far we've come. We really do believe in ourselves. 'If everyone thinks we're going to lose then we've got nothing to lose. We're going to go out there, play our football, be confident and hopefully surprise everyone.'
