Patna-DDU rail stretch cleared for 130kmph ops

Time of India4 days ago
Patna: In a significant upgrade to railway infrastructure, a 208km stretch between Patna and Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Junction has been approved for operations at speeds of up to 130 kmph.
The improvement involves the busy Howrah-Patna-DDU-Delhi corridor, one of Indian Railways' heavily used routes.
The speed clearance followed a night-time inspection and speed trial on Wednesday, led by East Central Railway (ECR) general manager Chhatrasal Singh. Singh rode in the locomotive cab of the Rajendra Nagar Terminal-New Delhi Tejas Rajdhani Express, accompanied by principal chief engineer Shailesh Verma and Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Jayant Kumar Choudhary.
"The trial confirmed improved track and signal maintenance under night conditions, validating readiness for higher-speed trains," said ECR's chief public relations officer, Saraswati Chandra. He added that the Tejas Rajdhani reached DDU 13 minutes ahead of schedule and the GM expressed satisfaction with monsoon safety protocols.
Meanwhile, the railways have submitted a survey report to the Railway Board for the proposed third and fourth lines along the same corridor. The survey, costing approximately Rs 7.8 crore, is aimed at decongesting the saturated route and improving the flow of both passenger and freight trains.
"This upgrade will reduce travel time, improve punctuality and increase capacity," said DRM Choudhary. He added that the project forms part of 'Mission Raftaar', an initiative to boost average train speeds across India.

Bullet Train Update: Japanese bullet train will not run between Ahmedabad and Mumbai? Here's the complete truth

Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train: Is the Japanese bullet train no longer set to run between Ahmedabad and Mumbai? Earlier, reports had claimed that instead of the Japanese bullet train, the country's first highly ambitious Ahmedabad-Mumbai high-speed corridor (bullet train project) will now feature a semi-high-speed Vande Bharat train built with indigenous technology. However, the fast Train Corridor and Railway Department has stated that the reports are completely false. Speaking about the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train, a senior official from the Railway Ministry talking to Live Hindustan stated that the work on the Surat-Bilimora (50-kilometer) section of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed corridor is in its final stages. He also informed that a trial run of the Vande Bharat train will begin by the end of the year. By 2027, the general public will be able to travel on the Vande Bharat (sitting) train. Two Vande Bharat trains, each with eight coaches, will operate on this route. Although the maximum speed is 280 km/h, the trains will run at 250 km/h. What are the claims? As per the Live Hindustan report, Japan had set the cost of each bullet train coach at Rs 16 crore when the agreement for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai high-speed corridor project was signed. However, last year, Japan increased the price to more than three times the original amount. At the time of supply, the cost per coach was raised to Rs 50 crore. As a result, a 16-coach bullet train would now cost ₹800 crore.

Travel Food Services IPO to list today; modest GMP seen in grey market

Travel Food Services , a leading player in airport-based quick service restaurants (QSRs) and lounges, is all set to debut on the bourses on Monday following the closure of its Rs 2,000 crore IPO earlier this week. The issue, which was entirely an offer for sale (OFS) by existing promoters and investors, was priced at Rs 1,100 per share. The IPO received a moderate response from investors, closing with 3.03x overall subscription. The QIB (Qualified Institutional Buyer) category saw the strongest demand at 8.10x, while retail participation remained muted at just 0.73x. The NII segment was subscribed 1.67x, reflecting cautious optimism among high-net-worth individuals. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play War Thunder now for free War Thunder Play Now Undo Ahead of listing, the stock is trading at a GMP of around Rs 22, or roughly 2% over the issue price, suggesting a flat-to-mildly positive debut if sentiment holds. Travel Food Services , backed by the UK-based SSP Group, operates 397 QSR outlets and lounges across 14 airports in India and three in Malaysia, including hubs like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Chennai. The company boasts a diverse F&B brand portfolio of 117 partner and in-house brands, catering to the growing demand for food and travel services in high-footfall transit locations. Live Events Financially, the company reported steady earnings growth in FY25, supported by strong EBITDA margins (40%) and ROE of 35.47%. However, the IPO's valuation at a P/E of 48.6x has drawn some concern, especially given its entirely secondary nature, with no fresh capital infusion. While anchor investors committed nearly Rs 599 crore ahead of the issue, the lack of overwhelming retail traction and limited upside in GMP indicate a measured market outlook for the listing. With a first-mover advantage in India's niche airport F&B segment and strong international backing, the company is well-positioned for long-term growth, though near-term listing fireworks appear unlikely. Water accumulates at Pachpaoli flyover reconstruction site, residents raise concerns over vector-borne diseases

Nagpur: While the demolition of the decades-old Pachpaoli flyover is already delayed and ongoing for almost three months, another issue has arisen at the site, leaving citizens frustrated. The recent heavy rains created a 'swimming pool' on the dug-up stretch from Kamal Chowk towards the railway crossing, where the old flyover once stood. Citizens of the area have raised concerns over the increasing mosquito menace and vector-borne diseases due to the stagnant water. TOI visited the spot on Sunday and observed water accumulating on the dug-up stretch where the new flyover will be built. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), as a precautionary measure, has barricaded the entire stretch. Meanwhile, the demolition of the flyover over the level crossings 571 and 572, and between them, has not yet been completed. TOI reported on June 8 that the demolition work of the flyover over the railway lines was stuck in red tape due to pending permission from the railways. The Pachpaoli flyover demolition started in mid-April. "The demolition was supposed to be completed within a month, but it is still not fully completed. Meanwhile, the reconstruction of the new flyover is also going at a snail's pace. Now, the road they dug up for construction has been filled with water since Wednesday. They have not yet cleared it. This will breed mosquitoes and further add to the inconvenience of citizens," said Vinod Shahu. Another local pointed out that the stagnant water can lead to a bad smell and vector-borne diseases. "We are already facing air and noise pollution because of ongoing work as it is a congested area. If this water is not cleared, it will further lead to health issues for locals," said a resident. Meanwhile, the rains also created problems for the ongoing work as many dug pits have been filled with water, hindering the work. The NHAI has started the construction of the new flyover and even installed a few piers for it, but the majority of the work is still pending. TOI made multiple attempts to contact NHAI officials, but they did not respond. The Pachpaoli flyover is currently being demolished for the building of the longer Kamal Chowk to Reshmibagh flyover, which is part of the Rs 998 crore Indora to Dighori project, aimed at decongesting North and South Nagpur. Under the project, two flyovers are being built — Kamal Chowk to Reshibagh and Bhande Plot Square to Dighori — and they will significantly reduce travel time from Indora to Dighori.
