Taipei Open: Unnati Hooda, Ayush Shetty To Feature In Semifinals
Indian shuttlers Unnati Hooda and Ayush Shetty will be in action during the semifinals of the Taipei Open on Saturday. Both these young stars will be aiming to go one step further in their chase for a first Badminton World Federation (BWF) Tour title. Ayush, competing in the men's singles, got the better of seventh-seeded Brian Yang of Canada 16-21, 21-19, 21-14 in the quarter-finals. The match lasted one hour and 11 minutes, as per Olympics.com. The 20-year-old shuttler defeated former world number one Kidambi Srikanth in the round of 16 after getting the better of third-seeded Lee Chia-hao of Chinese Taipei in his opener.
This will be world No. 44 Ayush Shetty's second semi-final appearance this year. He had also made the semi-finals of the Orleans Masters Super 300 in March after memorably upstaging former world champion Loh Kean Yew in the round of 32.In the semi-finals,
Ayush will play top-seed Chou Tien-chen of Chinese Taipei, who accounted for Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah of Indonesia in his top-eight fixture.
Meanwhile, Unnati, 53rd in the badminton rankings for women's singles players, won her quarter-final match against Chinese Taipei's world No. 65 Hung Yi-Ting. The 17-year-old Indian shuttler took 52 minutes to secure a 21-8, 19-21, 21-19 victory.
She will take on top-seeded Tomoka Miyazaki of Japan in the semi-finals. In the round of 16, Unnati defeated Chinese Taipei's world No. 99 Lin Sih-Yun 21-12, 21-7.

The event witnessed an impressive response from aspiring cricketers across North Bengal, as hundreds of young talents turned up to exhibit their skills and pursue their cricketing dreams. Selected players (9 men, 2 women) will get the opportunity to train alongside the Siliguri Strikers players in net sessions and practice drills during the Bengal Pro T20 League Season 2, scheduled to take place in June. Meanwhile, Siliguri Strikers are gearing up for the second Bengal Pro T20 League season, slated to begin from June 11. Indian pacer Akash Deep, who has played seven Test matches, has been retained by Siliguri Strikers as men's team Marquee, while Priyanka Bala has been retained in the women's squad. The Siliguri Strikers will represent the districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, and Kalimpong. With a strong foundation built in Season 1, the franchise now aims to elevate its performance and go one step further this year. Indian Embassy successfully organizes inaugural edition of Indian Ambassador's Cricket Tournament
Kathmandu [Nepal], June 9 (ANI): The Embassy of India in Kathmandu successfully organised the inaugural edition of the Indian Ambassador's Cricket Tournament from May 31 to June 8 at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground. According to a release by the Indian Embassy, the tournament saw enthusiastic participation from six teams representing the Indian Embassy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, British Embassy, Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Corporates, and the Indian Diaspora (ICAN) in Nepal. The opening ceremony was held on May 31 and was graced by the Ambassador of India to Nepal, the British Ambassador, and the Joint Secretary (South Asia Division), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepal. 'After a week of spirited and friendly competition, the tournament culminated in a thrilling final match on June 8, where the Indian Embassy team had a face-off with the ICAN team. The final was followed by a trophy distribution ceremony attended by the Ambassador of India to Nepal Naveen Srivastava, President of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Chatur Bahadur Chand and Joint Secretary (South Asia Division), MoFA, Nepal, Gahendra Rajbhandari, where top performers were recognized and felicitated,' the release stated. Later in the evening, a reception ceremony was organised to celebrate the tournament's success.
