79-year-old drives into closed bar in Verulam
A 79-year-old woman intending to buy airtime from a general dealer at a shopping complex in Oaklands, Verulam, accidentally crashed through the front doors of a bar.
The incident happened this morning.
Prem Balram, of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), a private security company, said: "Members of Rusa arrived at the scene at approximately 9.09am and established that a blue Hyundai i10 crashed through the front doors of a bar that was closed for business.
"The woman, who was seated on a chair outside the premises after the incident, said she recalled turning onto the property, but lost consciousness."

The incident occurred when her parent attempted to fight off the assailants, only to be overpowered as they sped away with the child, in the rear seat of a white Toyota Tazz. According to security firm Reaction Unit South Africa, a prompt alert was raised following the hijacking, triggering immediate action from their officers. 'Reaction Officers immediately mobilised after receiving information that a vehicle matching the description crashed near the Tongaat Post Office,' RUSA said in a statement. They discovered the young girl being comforted by concerned members of the public at the crash-site, who quickly rallied to her side after the traumatic event. Witnesses reported that the hijackers, who fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction, left behind a community shaken but relieved that the girl was found safe. Last year, a driver of a white Isuzu found himself in a similar predicament when armed suspects in a silver Opel Astra attempted to ambush him. Fortunately, the driver managed to escape, crashing into his driveway gate in a desperate bid to thwart the assailants, who fled empty-handed. Five wounded following shooting incident in Eerste River
CAPE TOWN - Police in Cape Town are investigating a shooting incident in Eerste River, which left five people wounded. According to reports, the five men aged between 17 and 21 were injured when occupants of a car opened fire on them along Palmiet Street in Electric City on Friday night. A sixth man managed to escape unharmed. Police are now investigating six counts of attempted murder in connection with the incident. Spokesperson Wesley Twigg said the motive for the attack forms part of investigations. "According to reports, a yellow Hyundai i10 drove up to the victims and the occupants opened fire on them. The victims were transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment," said Twigg.
