Leanne Crichton has been a regular on Sportscene
Potter left for Crystal Palace after the Ibrox side saw the SWPL title slip from their grasp on the final day for the third season on the trot, losing to champs Hibs at home.
But 72-cap Scotland star Crichton, who rejoined her old club City as Leanne Ross' assistant in November, will have work to do before the season starts in three weeks with six Gers top-team stars also leaving.
Crichton had three playing spells with Glasgow City before heading to Motherwell in 2021 where she took up a player-coach role.
She can also boast of playing in two Uefa quarter-finals for Glasgow City while she also represented Scotland at the 2017 European Championships and the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.
She returned to Petershill in November last year to become assistant manager to Ross following the departure of Scott Booth to Aberdeen.
Rangers fly out to Italy this morning after a 6-0 friendly win over Middlesbrough yesterday.
The Light Blues lost out on the SWPL title on the last three successive final days of the season with a domestic Treble slipping from their grasp on the last two occasions.
Hibs' triumph this season at Ibrox on the last day meant that Glasgow City finished in the runners-up spot and so claimed the second European spot.
In both of Potters' seasons as the helm at Ibrox, she delivered a cup double.
Her move to Scotland came after she brought an end to a playing career that spanned two decades.
Russell Martin opens up after he got sent off by John Beaton in pre-season friendly vs 'Boro
She played for the likes of Arsenal, Birmingham and Reading and won 35 caps for England, starring at the World Cup and European Championships.
The women's season does not kick off until mid-August and Gers will hope Crichton can settle in quickly so she can work with the players before the opening game away to Montrose.
Gers travel to Links Park on August 17 and then host Hearts at Ibrox a week later.

Celtic boss Rodgers keen to ‘dominate every competition' this season
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is again targeting domestic domination with style as the champions prepare to begin their title defence against St Mirren. Rodgers was a penalty shoot-out defeat against Aberdeen away from completing his third treble as Celtic manager last season after finishing 17 points clear of Rangers in the Premiership. A new challenge awaits in terms of a Rangers side under new ownership and new leadership in the form of head coach Russell Martin. However, Rodgers said: 'The aim as a Celtic manager is always to dominate every competition. 'We have obviously qualification for the Champions League that we want to arrive into, and we want to be really competitive in that competition if we arrive there. 'That was our idea last year. Nothing changes. You add to that the pressures here at Celtic, it's always about not just winning, but winning in a style of football. That's always the pursuit of the teams here, to play attacking, aggressive football. 'So it's not just about winning, it's how we win, which is important for us.' Rodgers is still looking to add to his squad in the forward areas and confidence gained from impressive pre-season wins over Sporting Lisbon and Newcastle was balanced by a 5-1 loss to Ajax. The Celtic manager has seen plenty to encourage him in terms of how well his players have prepared. 'This is my third pre-season since I've come back and the metrics of the team and the squad that we've had is at the highest over the course of the pre-season,' he said. 'So, in terms of the guys that are here, they've worked so hard. Everyone at the club has put together a fantastic pre-season programme for us and now we arrive into these last couple of days and ready for flag day, which is a special day for us.' St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson will embrace a tough start to the campaign which sees them also facing Motherwell, Rangers, Hibernian and Premier Sports Cup opponents Hearts in August. 'If you watch my teams playing, we don't play with fear,' Robinson said. 'We play on the front foot, we press every team and we try and play, we try and pass, we've got real energy and pace in the team, real creativity in the team and from Christmas onwards you saw what we were about. 'I don't think there'll be any team that relishes playing us and that's the way we have to make it. We have to go at people, we have to play him behind people and we have to play with the pace and energy that we have on the side and we certainly don't fear anybody. 'We embrace it and we look forward to it and I think the players come in every day believing that they can win every football match.' Man Utd star reveals 'very clear' Ruben Amorim message to outcast players
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim made it 'very clear' to his squad that if they do not meet his high standards of commitment then there is no place for them at the club, reveals Diogo Dalot. Amorim had a torrid time after arriving at Old Trafford in November last year, replacing the dismissed Erik ten Hag. The Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League, their worst performance in the division's history, and failure to win a cup competition means they are not in European football in the coming season. However, Amorim has been trusted with a significant rebuild of the squad, with the likes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo already arriving. Manchester United also intend to secure a number of big departures, with Marcus Rashford already on loan at Barcelona and the likes of Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia all expected to follow him out of the exit door. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. These may be big name players, but Dalot explains that Amorim set out his stall very clearly during his first season in charge and any players not meeting his standards cannot expect to be involved. 'He is very clear on his messages that you want to be a part of the team or you cannot be here,' Dalot said of Amorim, via ESPN. 'If you want to be in Manchester United, you need to match some standards. If you're not able to match it, it's not a place for you. 'The message is really clear. The message was that if you started the preseason, it's because he believes that we are the group that needs to come.' Teenage full-back Diego Leon has also arrived from Paraguayan side Cerro Porteño and there will likely be more signings, with the Red Devils also in the market for a new centre forward. Dalot is positive about how the squad is being put together, saying: 'I think we are creating a group that fights for each other. 'I think that's what we are trying to create. Obviously, there's still a long way to go. I think you can see straight away some signs of the team fighting a bit more, having more intensity, and that's what we are trying to do.' Outgoings are proving difficult to secure for United, due to the huge amount of money they spent on the likes of Sancho and Antony and the substantial wages they are paid. More Trending Juventus have been linked with a move for Sancho, Real Betis want Antony and both Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund have been touted as suitors for Garnacho, but no moves appear imminent. Dutch publication Voetbal International report that there has been interest from the Saudi Pro League in Malacia, with talks ongoing over a possible £6m move. Among the players linked with a move to Old Trafford is Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has become available after failing to agree a new contract with the European champions, reports Sky Sports. He is in the final year of his deal with PSG and they are open to selling him this summer, with Manchester United keen on replacing Andre Onana with the Italian. The two clubs have held discussions about entering a co-operation agreement which would see the Glasgow giants provide the Kirkcaldy side with young players during the season. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The co-operation system is a new intiative from the Scottish Football Association which allows a maximum of three players aged between 16 and 21, who are eligible for Scotland national teams, to join a lower-league club on loan but move back and forth between their parent club and the co-operation club to increase their game time. The Raith board are keen to proceed with the deal but have decided to consult with their season ticket holders before making any decision. (Photo by Paul Byars / SNS Group) | SNS Group An email sent to Rovers supporters read: "As a Board, we are committed to transparency and believe that certain decisions should involve consultation with the most important stakeholders - our supporters. "Before any decision is made regarding a co-operation agreement with a Scottish Premiership club, we have made it clear that such an agreement would be subject to a vote by our season ticket holders. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad "Rangers have now made an official proposal to enter into a co-operation agreement. We would therefore like to present the facts of the agreement, share the views of key stakeholders within the club, and give you the opportunity to vote on whether you believe this is the best move for Raith Rovers. "Key Terms of the Proposed Agreement: Rangers may nominate a maximum of three players to move freely between Rangers and Raith Rovers; Rangers will cover the full salary of any player who joins Raith Rovers; Eligible players must be under the age of 21 and qualified to represent Scotland; Raith Rovers can decline any player who is not deemed suitable for our squad; Raith Rovers are under no obligation to play any Rangers player as part of this agreement; This agreement does not replace the traditional loan system. Raith Rovers may still register up to six SPFL loan players if we choose to do so." Raith Rovers manager Barry Robson is in favour of the proposed link-up with Rangers. (Pic by Michael Gillen) Raith manger Barry Robson has thrown his weight behind the proposal. "The squad is taking shape, and with a couple more experienced additions, I believe we'll be in a strong position," he said. "While the players coming through this agreement are younger and less experienced, the deal gives us an opportunity to add depth for matchdays and also in training. I am very much in favour of it." Rovers technical director John Potter also believes the cooperation agreement will benefit the Stark's Park club. "It has been a challenging window for clubs across the Championship, and we're no exception," he stated. "Barry, the recruitment team, and I are still actively identifying players who can make an immediate impact. That includes those suggested by Rangers. Barry has a clear way he wants to play, and we would only accept players from Rangers who can strengthen the squad in line with that approach." Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad
