This Porsche 963 Is a One-Off Piece of History

Yahoo2 days ago

Porsche highlighted a bespoke 917 that was converted for road-going duties earlier this year and snuck in a teaser for the now-named 963 RSP.
The Porsche teaser video suggests that this 963 RSP will make its debut at Le Mans, which kicks off on June 14.
Porsche has confirmed that the 963 RSP will be a lone example.
You can't say Porsche was exactly subtle in its previous teaser. That said, the assumed road-going, confirmed one-off hypercar is actually happening. Porsche confirmed that this machine exists and gave it a name in a second teaser.
The second teaser, which you can watch below, shows the team at Porsche working on what now know is the 963 RSP. This one-off creation is going to sport a hand-stitched interior, proper finish, and a serious attention to detail.
While we still don't exactly know what the 963 RSP is going to be underneath the skin, we can make some assumptions. It will probably sport a derivative of the 963 race car's twin-turbocharged 4.6-liter V8 for motivation. It is also a safe assumption that Porsche will keep the 963's hybrid system intact.
However, this bespoke 963 RSP won't be subject to any of the balance-of-performance rules that tamp down the race car's output. That means this 963 RSP could have a huge output figure.
Porsche has also basically confirmed that we're all going to see this one-off car show its face at this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Of course, the price, and would-be customer haven't been disclosed, but it's safe to assume that if this leaves Porsche's stewardship, it will cost a small fortune.

Porsche Teases New 963 RSP Hypercar

Summary Porschehas officially unveiled the name of its mysterious and potentially roadgoing endurance project: the 963 RSP. Teased in a new ASMR-style video, the one-off hypercar is based on the 963 endurance racer that's already clinched back-to-back victories at the 24 Hours of Daytona. The short film shows Porsche artisans sewing custom upholstery, sanding carbon-fiber panels and applying paint by hand, culminating in the installation of a real Porsche crest on the hood, a notable departure from the sticker badge used on the race car for weight savings. While Porsche hasn't revealed specs, the RSP is expected to mirror the race-bred twin-turbo V8 hybrid setup of its track-only sibling. According to earlyreports, the RSP name may also nod to Roger S. Penske, whose team oversees Porsche's dominant endurance program. With only one 963 RSP slated for production, its debut is likely timed for just before the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 14. In the meantime, check out the teaser for yourself below.

IMSA Detroit results, points: Acura outduels Cadillac for first victory of season

Renger van der Zande seized the lead on a bold pass with three laps remaining as the No. 93 Meyer Shank Racing ARX-06 won from the pole in Detroit, ending Porsche's win streak to start the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season. Porsche Penske Motorsport was on track for a fifth consecutive victory in 2025 and its fourth with the No. 7 963, which was leading with 15 laps remaining of the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic. But Felipe Nasr yielded the lead in Turn 4 to Ricky Taylor in the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac V-Series.R. Taylor led the next 10 laps before getting caught in traffic by van der Zande, who took the lead for good in Turn 1 of the nine-turn, 1.645-mile street circuit in downtown Detroit. 'Man, I loved it,' van der Zande said after his 22nd career victory in IMSA. 'I know Ricky goes for it. He's the nicest guy out of the car, but in the car, you need to watch out for the guy. He was going for it, and I was like, 'Game on. Let's see.' 'I was very strong every time in Turn 1, and he had some traffic. I thought, 'If I'm going to have a chance, it's going to be in Turn 1.' I asked the team, and they said, 'Go for it.' He had a weaker exit out of the last corner, and just, boom – I went for it. When I made the pass for the win, I was excited in the car, like a little child. It's really cool and I enjoyed it.' Said Taylor, whose team switched from Acura back to Cadillac before this season: 'A little sadness from me because we were so close to our first win with Cadillac in the GM race with everybody here. To get the 100th Cadillac podium in IMSA prototype competition feels amazing, but that one step would have been nice. It was a great fight, the team did an amazing job, the strategy was incredible. I think everything for our race went perfectly for us to go from eighth to first and almost winning.' Mathieu Jaminet finished third in the No. 6 963 for Porsche Penske Motorsport as teammate Nasr faded to fourth. Philipp Eng finished fifth in the Grand Touring Prototype category with the No. 24 BMW M Team RLL Hybrid V8 Nick Yelloly, who started the race in the No. 93 Acura, combined with van der Zande as the first team to win from the pole in GTP since Meyer Shank Racing at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in July 2023. In the GTP standings, Nasr and co-driver Nick Tandy lead by 70 points over Porsche Penske Motorsport teammates Matt Campbell and Jaminet. In the GTD Pro category, Seb Priaulx and Mike Rockenfeller won from the pole position in the No. 64 Ford Multimatic Motorsports Mustang GT3 by 1.623 seconds over the No. 3 Corvette Racing Z06 GT3.R of Antonio Garcia and Alexander Sims. Laurin Heinrich and Klaus Bachler placed fifth to maintain the points lead over Garcia and Sims. Is the 911 Hybrid Still a True Porsche? Video Review

There are so many Porsche 911 variants that it'll make your head spin. The 911 Carrera, Carrera S, Carrera T, GT3, GT3 RS, Turbo, Targa—you get the point. But snuck into the middle of the lineup is a highly significant 911: The 2025 911 GTS. The first hybrid 911. My first thought when hearing about the new GTS was: "Hybrid? Ew ." Hybrid is mostly a dirty word for driving enthusiasts, especially when it comes to sports cars. As was demonstrated by the new BMW M5 (which we reviewed last week on the channel), hybridization comes with weight and complexity. But when done right, hybridization can also genuinely enhance the driving experience, like with the 'holy trinity' of hypercars or, yes, even the newest Toyota Prius . With the GTS, Porsche tried to avoid as much bloat as possible while still adding performance. The 911 GTS is 110 pounds heavier than the previous 992.1, but the benefits of those 110 pounds are vast. With an electric motor adding 54 horsepower and 110 pound-feet of torque where the PDK clutches are, the GTS torque fills instantly. The 1.9 kilowatt-hour battery is mounted in the front/middle of the car, aiding weight distribution. And the hybrid drive means the entire engine accessory drive is gone, which allowed Porsche to move the engine 4.3 inches lower than before—a huge change. Sure, hybrid may be a dirty word for enthusiasts, but the 992.2 GTS challenged my notions of a hybrid in this latest video.
