‘Beacon of hope for oppressed nations'—Baloch leader's letter to PM as Parliament debates Op Sindoor
Released the day Parliament convened to debate Operation Sindoor, the letter underscores solidarity between Baloch nationalists and the Indian government. Mir Yar, a prominent voice for Baloch self-determination, hopes that India would raise the Balochistan issue in Parliament and alleges that Pakistan's military has intensified its crackdown in Balochistan.
New Delhi: In a letter addressed to India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior government leaders, Baloch representative Baloch has extended 'unconditional moral support' to India, calling it a 'beacon of hope for oppressed nations' amid escalating tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad following Operation Sindoor.
In its June 2025 report, 'Paank', the human rights department of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), reported that the Baloch community faces routine harassment, unlawful raids, and enforced disappearances in Pakistan. These actions have created a climate of fear and insecurity, families often suffer without legal recourse or information and many victims are later found dead, showing signs of torture, the report says. The crisis continues amid institutional silence and lack of accountability, the report adds.
Mir Yar praised the unity displayed by India's ruling and opposition parties, the professionalism of the armed forces, and what he called the 'responsible' role played by the national media in covering Operation Sindoor.
'India and Balochistan share a deep-rooted history of friendship and brotherhood that spans thousands of years,' he said in a separate statement to ThePrint.
'Long before the creation of Pakistan, our two nations maintained strong trade and diplomatic ties. The solidarity shown by 60 million Baloch during Operation Sindoor is a testament to this enduring bond,' he added.
Citing the millennia-old civilisational and cultural links between India and Balochistan, Mir Yar urged Indian lawmakers to recognise these ties in the parliamentary discourse. He specifically highlighted the Hinglaj Mata Mandir—a revered Hindu pilgrimage site and one of the 51 'Shaktipeeths'—located in Balochistan, which he said continues to be protected by the local Baloch population despite extremist threats.
'This is not just a geopolitical opportunity,' Mir Yar Baloch wrote in the letter. 'It is a test of India's moral leadership in the region. In the spirit of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam'—the world is one family—we ask India to stand with us in our pursuit of freedom, dignity, and justice.'
The letter also lays out strategic arguments for India's support of an independent Balochistan, suggesting that it would sever Pakistan's access to the Arabian Sea via Gwadar and disrupt the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a project New Delhi views as a major security concern. He added that an independent Balochistan could open new trade corridors for India to Central Asia and the Middle East.
Mir Yar appealed to India's moral and geopolitical calculus in the letter and said, 'The Baloch people have consistently looked toward India as a beacon of hope, and their unwavering support for our sovereignty, particularly during events like Operation Sindoor, deserves a principled response from your leadership.'

MP Prajwal Revanna To Be Sentenced In Rape Case Today
The court on Friday pronounced Revanna guilty in the obscene video and rape case. Judge Santhosh Gajanana Bhat delivered the verdict. The court is scheduled to announce the quantum of punishment on Saturday, after allowing the convict, Prajwal Revanna, and his counsel to make their final submissions on the conviction. Prajwal Revanna was produced before the court, and as soon as the verdict was pronounced, he was seen with tears in his eyes, wiping them while seated inside the courtroom. After stepping out of the court hall, he sat down in a chair in visible despair and broke down, unable to process the shock. The court deferred the judgment on July 30, citing the need for certain clarifications. After seeking inputs from both sides and issuing directions, the matter was adjourned until this day. He was arrested last year and has been in jail for 14 months. The case in question pertains to a rape complaint and other charges filed by a domestic worker from K.R. Nagar against Prajwal Revanna. The court has reviewed 26 pieces of evidence in connection with the case. Prajwal Revanna faces three other similar cases. Videos allegedly showing Prajwal Revanna sexually assaulting women and recording the acts surfaced during the 2024 Lok Sabha election period. Following this, Prajwal fled the country. A victim from Holenarasipura initially filed a police complaint against him. Upon his return to Bengaluru on May 31, 2024, he was arrested by the Bengaluru Police. His return came after public appeals from former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. Prajwal was lodged in Bengaluru Central Jail, and his multiple bail pleas were outrightly rejected by all courts. One of the videos that caused widespread outrage during the election period shows the alleged sexual assault on an elderly domestic worker at a farmhouse in Holenarasipura. In the video, the woman is seen pleading with Prajwal to spare her, stating that she had served food to his father and other family elders. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) had filed cases under IPC Sections 376(2)(n) (repeated rape on the same woman), 506 (criminal intimidation), 354A(1) (unwelcome physical contact and advances, sexual demands), 354B (use of criminal force with intent to disrobe), 354C (voyeurism -- capturing images of a woman engaged in a private act without her consent), along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act. Police had collected strong evidence in this particular case. They recorded the statement of the victim, collected the samples of semen of Prajwal Revanna from the clothes of the victim, and also obtained the video of the sexual assault.

'The tariffs announced by the US President are not just disappointing but very worrying,' said Amit Thapar of Ganga Acrowools Limited in Ludhiana, which exports yarn to the US. Thapar, who is also the chairman of CII's (Northern Region) export committee, said, 'Textile exports worth approximately $10.05 billion were made from India to the US last year and this year till May, the exports have already grown by 13 %.' Punjab contributes a significant 28% to India's total textile export of $36 billion. 'But the problem now facing the industry in the state is lower tariffs on competing countries like Turkey (15%), Vietnam (20%), Pakistan (19%), Bangladesh (20%) and Sri Lanka (20%), all lower than India. This puts Indian exporters at a huge disadvantage. Buyers have been calling us. We will start holding meetings to chart the future path amid uncertainty. I hope the situation improves,' he added. SC Ralhan, president, Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), who is the managing director of Ludhiana-based Sri Tool industries, said the tariffs were a major setback for the hand tools industry in Punjab that annually exports machinery worth ₹3,000 crore to the US. 'Our government is negotiating with exporters on this front. They are likely to compensate us, but if the tariff is implemented, it will be a huge setback. Countries like Vietnam and Turkey are set to benefit straight away,' he said. Upkar Singh Ahuja, president, Chamber of Commercial and Industrial Undertakings (CICU), said the industry in Punjab will be adversely hit, as besides textiles, hand tools machinery and auto parts were exported in huge quantities to the US. 'We are hopeful that the Indian government will provide a respite soon,' he said.

NEW DELHI: Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju defended the deployment of CISF personnel in the Rajya Sabha's Well, citing instances where MPs had physically climbed atop the treasury bench and assured Congress that no MP would be stopped from speaking. Earlier, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge expressed concerns on Friday over CISF personnel deployment. Condemning the move, Kharge said, "We expect that in the future, CISF personnel will not come trooping into the well of the House when Members are raising important issues of public concern." Responding to Kharge's concern, Rijju said, "It was Parliament members' demand to increase security, therefore CISF was deployed. Inside the house, members have sometimes physically taken a stand atop the treasury table and near the Well. Security has been deployed to stop them from doing this. No MPs will be stopped from speaking." He clarified that CISF personnel would remain passive unless MPs engaged in disruptive behaviour, ANI reported. Kharge wrote, "We are astonished and shocked at the manner in which CISF personnel are made to run into the Well of the House when the Members are exercising their democratic right of protest" Congress MP Pramod Tiwari criticised the government, noting that female MPs were intercepted by male CISF personnel. "Today is a sad and dark day in Indian democracy. Commandos have been deployed. Some are saying it is CISF, some are saying something else. They forcefully stopped the members from going to the staff. Our women members were stopped. Men stopped them," Tiwari told reporters.
