Sharjah to host the first Badminton World Cup 2025
This World Cup will showcase badminton in a unique outdoor stadium that will be built in Sharjah, with the exact location still to be revealed. A total of 72 players from 12 different teams across five continents will compete. Each continent will be represented by the following number of teams: Asia (3 teams), Europe (3 teams), Africa (2 teams), North and South America (2 teams), Oceania (1 team), and the host country, the UAE (1 team).
The tournament will feature three main competitions: a team relay, a women's triathlon, and a men's triathlon. To qualify for the World Cup, teams need to participate in four regional tournaments around the globe: the Americas Championship in Lima, Peru, from April 12-13; the African Championship in Accra, Ghana, from July 3-6; the Asian/Oceanic Championship in Port Dickson, Malaysia, from August 8-10; and the European Championship in Baku, Azerbaijan, from September 5-7. The best team in the team relay from each regional tournament will earn a spot in the World Cup, while the triathlon teams will be formed by players from these qualifying teams. Notably, Venezuela and Brazil qualified last April!

Injury on the mend as Knight eyes upcoming 50-over World Cup ICC Women's Cricket World Cup, 2025
'Things are tracking pretty well to hopefully be fit for that (World Cup). It's healing not gonna rush things. It's a pretty gnarly injury: I ripped off the tendon quite well from the bone, so I have to be a little bit careful coming back," Knight added. The injury comes on the back off a difficult period for Knight who was stripped of her captaincy after being at the helm for nine years in the wake of an Ashes humiliation in Australia. The long-term injury then struck in the early weeks of a new chapter under head coach Charlotte Edwards, adding to an already difficult period in her career. 'The Ashes was pretty tough; I was sad that things had ended like that but the ECB decided they wanted me to have a fresh start and that was their decision and completely fine,' she said of England captaincy, which has now been take over by Nat Sciver-Brunt. 'I'm still very motivated to keep playing for England.'

Ronaldo extends Al Nassr contract until 2027
Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a two-year contract extension with Al Nassr, the Saudi Pro League side said on Thursday, which will keep the Portugal forward at the club past his 42nd birthday. Ronaldo, who joined Al Nassr in 2022 after leaving Manchester United to become a free agent, has scored 93 goals in 105 appearances for them in all competitions. "A new chapter begins. Same passion, same dream. Let's make history together," Ronaldo said in a post on X. Ronaldo arrived in Al Nassr on a two-and-a-half-year contract soon after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. That made him the highest-paid athlete in the world and he has topped the list for the last three years, according to Forbes. At the age of 40, Ronaldo's estimated total earnings are around $275 million. He has shown few signs of slowing down, with the forward leading Portugal to a second UEFA Nations League title this month when they beat neighbours Spain in the final. Ronaldo is also eyeing the 1,000-goal milestone in his career. He has scored 794 goals in club football and 138 for Portugal to take his tally to 932. His arrival in Saudi Arabia opened the floodgates for several high-profile players based in Europe to make the switch to the SPL, such as Ronaldo's former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema. Although Ronaldo has won the Arab Club Champions Cup with Al Nassr, he has been unable to guide them to the SPL title, with their best finish being runners-up in 2022-23 and 2023-24. They finished third last season.
