Shooting Victim Josh Reynolds Reveals Motivation in Signing With New York Jets
Shooting Victim Josh Reynolds Reveals Motivation in Signing With New York Jets originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Josh Reynolds didn't have the best of seasons last year with the Denver Broncos and then the Jacksonville Jaguars as the receiver played what some critics might call so-so football. Advertisement But there was a reason for that, with Reynolds having been the victim of a 2024 shooting in Denver - he sustained non-life-threatening injuries to his left arm and back of his head - maybe he didn't really recover from a football standpoint. Now he's a New York Jet, and after playing for a host of teams throughout his nine-year career, the Big Apple is his next stop. And as OTAs continue for Aaron Glenn's team, Reynolds revealed why he chose the AFC East franchise as his next stop. "I think the biggest thing was Coach Glenn," Reynolds said. "I knew what kind of coach, what kind of person he was, I knew what kind of culture he was going to bring here and I knew I'd fit well with the Jets. So, I was like, 'Yeah, I think that would be a good situation.' I was excited to be a part of it." Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports With Reynolds playing three seasons with the Lions, most of which were with both Glenn and his Jets offensive coordinator, Tanner Engstrand, it is easy to see why Josh made the choice he did. Advertisement Familiarity is key in the NFL, and for a veteran who is perhaps looking to prove a couple of people wrong and help this franchise navigate these troubled seasons, New York feels like the right spot. Last year, Reynolds was only able to play in nine games. He had 13 receptions for 194 yards and one touchdown in his time with Denver and Jacksonville. "Life is precious for sure," Reynolds said. "The more you have to think about it, the more you have to kind of relive it. So, I've moved past it. I'm here in Jersey and ready to get going." So much is unknown about New York in 2025, with many seeing tough times ahead for Glenn and Co., but in Reynolds, the Jets locker room has a point of contact when it comes to what to expect from this new regime. Advertisement And that might be an underrated aspect of Reynolds being a Jet in 2025. Evan Engram gives his take on new quarterback Bo Nix
Evan Engram gives his take on new quarterback Bo Nix The Denver Broncos courted free agent tight end Evan Engram this spring, facing competition from the Los Angeles Chargers. Engram ended up signing with the Broncos for several reasons, including getting the chance to play with second-year quarterback Bo Nix. 'From afar, I paid attention to the Broncos," Engram said after the team's spring practice last Thursday. "Me and Davis Webb (Denver's QBs coach) had a really good relationship. We got drafted together in New York. So even just watching and supporting him, I was always really observant of Bo Nix. It was kind of obviously as a rookie, kind of a slow start last year. He was learning the game, but once he turned it on, you can see it all over the tape. Flying around for the [free agent] visits, [I] got to download some games on the laptop and watch some film. The potential is through the roof, and even better is just the way he is as a man, as a worker, as a leader. "It's been really great to get to know him on and off the field. I just love the way he approaches each and every day. I love the way he builds relationships with his teammates. I had lunch with him on my visit here. So he made it a point to be here and meet me. Even that lunch, I was able to just kind of listen to his process and things that he's working on. Just really impressive young guy. Like I said, the potential is through the roof, and I like to see myself as someone that can come in and help his development and take this team to another level.' Nix quickly made a good impression on Engram -- both on film and in person. The QB-TE duo will now aim to build on Denver's offensive success from last fall. Nix was invited to the Pro Bowl as an alternate last season after topping 4,200 yards from scrimmage and scoring 34 touchdowns. Engram was hindered by injuries for much of 2024, but he's just two years removed from a 114-catch, 963-yard campaign in 2023. Engram figures to serve as one of Nix's key targets in 2025, and their chemistry appears to be off to a good start. Fans will get to see the duo in action for the first time this summer at Broncos training camp (dates TBA). Related: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans.

Ex-Broncos pass rusher dominated the UFL this spring
And the award for the best former Denver Broncos player in the UFL goes to ... Pita Taumoepenu! Taumoepenu (6-2, 250 pounds) signed with the Broncos in 2021, and after failing to make the active roster out of training camp, he spent the season on the team's practice squad. He is a journeyman pass rusher who has spent time with six NFL teams and now plays for the UFL's St. Louis Battlehawks. Advertisement Taumoepenu, 31, had a dominant spring season, leading the league with 7.5 sacks. He also totaled 27 tackles (five behind the line), three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one pass breakup in nine games. Following that impressive season, Taumoepenu was named to the 2025 All-UFL Team. Another former Broncos pass rusher, Andre Mintze, ranked fourth in the UFL with 5.5 sacks in nine games. He signed with Denver as an undrafted free agent out of Vanderbilt in 2021 and initially made the 53-man roster before landing on injured reserve. Mintze went to training camp with the Minnesota Vikings in 2022 and has been playing spring football since 2023 with the DC Defenders. Elsewhere in the UFL, running back Nate McCrary, who had a brief stint with the Broncos in 2021, rushed for 380 yards (fifth-most in the league) and two touchdowns this spring. Former Broncos quarterbacks Kevin Hogan and Case Cookus both started three games. Cookus totaled 546 passing yards and threw five touchdown passes. Hogan had 500 yards and two scores. Jarrett Guarantano only made one appearance with 29 yards and no scores. Advertisement Ex-Denver punters Colby Wadman (1,335 yards) and Marquette King (1,709 yards) played the full 10-game season. King averaged 47.5 yards per punt with a long of 69 yards and eight kicks downed inside the 20-yard line. Wadman averaged 46.0 yards per boot with a long of 68 yards and 11 kicks downed inside the 20. The UFL will hold conference final games on Sunday featuring the Michigan Panthers against the Birmingham Stallions, and the DC Defenders taking on the St. Louis Battlehawks. The winners of those matchups will face off in the UFL's final on June 14. Following the championship game, NFL teams will be allowed to sign UFL players.
