Video: IAS Officer Does Sit-Ups On First Day In UP Over Lack Of Cleanliness
On Tuesday, when Rinku Singh arrived as the new Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Powayan tehsil of Shahjahanpur, he took a round of the town and spotted people urinating in the open, right next to a public toilet. He made the offenders do sit-ups in public to set an example.
A lawyer told him that he is a Brahmin and cannot go inside a dirty public toilet. Therefore, he chooses to urinate in public.
Earlier in the day, he also found the parents of some school students loitering around with their young children.
"It felt that primary school students were missing out on education because of their parents. To educate parents on the importance of education and discourage such behaviour, ensuring kids go to school, I made parents do sit-ups," said Mr Singh.
Later, when Mr Singh went to meet protesting advocates, they refused to speak with him. Instead, the advocates questioned the IAS about the sit-ups.
"I explained that the act was meant to prevent repeat offences. They then pointed out that the tehsil premises were also dirty, the toilets were filthy, and stray animals roam around. They asked if I would do sit-ups for that, too? I said yes. Since it was my mistake, I accepted it and did sit-ups," Mr Singh said.
In a viral video, Mr Singh can be seen standing between a group of protesting advocates. After trying to have a dialogue with the lawyers, Mr Singh does five sit-ups in public.
The SDM added, "The tehsildar told me that the place was even more filthy until 10 days ago. He recently got the place largely cleaned. Even after this, if the problem remains, it is our mistake, and I accept it. I have asked people to point out our mistakes so that we can rectify them," he added.

The knife tore through his chest, piercing his lung and emerging from his back. Blood was pouring down his uniform. Yet, Police Constable Katravath Raju Naik refused to let go of the man who had just tried to kill him. It was the afternoon of January 5, 2023 in Yellammabanda's Sikh Colony. Naik, then posted with the Special Operation Team (SOT), Madhapur, was part of a team tracking a 19-year-old murder accused, Sardar Chamkorthi alias Karan Singh. The suspect had slipped through twice - Sanathnagar railway station and then Jagadgirigutta, before the team cornered him. Naik grabbed him by the left arm, another constable held his right. In a sudden frenzy, Singh pulled out a knife and drove it into Naik's chest. 'I used both hands to pull out the knife. I rendered him immobile after a blow to his head and pinned him down for almost 20 minutes until my teammates arrived,' Naik recalled. 'I was bleeding heavily, my body was giving up, but I knew I couldn't let him escape.' Even as his breathing grew ragged, Naik held the suspect down. When reinforcements arrived, Singh was taken into custody, later convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in February 2025. Naik, meanwhile, was rushed in the rear seat of a two-wheeler to Ramdevrao Hospital. Seeing the severity of his injuries, the hospital staff recommended he be shifted to a private hospital for better treatment. Senior officers, led by former Cyberabad Commissioner Stephen Raveendra, arranged a green channel. The ambulance reached Medicover Hospital in under eight minutes, with surgeons on the job as they sped through traffic. The injury had punctured his lung. Three open-chest surgeries followed. He was in a coma for four days and hospitalised for 45 days after that. His wife, unable to eat for nearly two weeks, stayed by his side, while his two children, Sailesh, then in Class 8 and Navonika, in Class 7, waited anxiously for updates. 'They were all scared, but they stood by me and supported me to return to the force,' Naik said. After 3-4 months of being at rest, 41-year-old Naik rejoined duty, determined not to let the attack define him. Even now, Naik cannot take on heavy physical work, and sharp pain grips his chest whenever he is under strain, but the discomfort, he says, will never stop him from serving in uniform. This year, he was promoted to Head Constable with Kollur police under Cyberabad commissionerate, a recognition of his resilience and service. This Independence Day, he is the only officer from Telangana to be conferred the Police Medal for Gallantry. For Naik, the honour is bittersweet- a reminder of how close he came to losing his life and of the officers who saved it. 'I owe my life to my colleagues and the doctors,' he said. 'I am happy for the award, but this is also for everyone who stood by me.' As for how he will celebrate, Naik smiled. 'My children study at a private institute in Ibrahimpatnam and live in hostels. They don't know about the award yet. When they call me in the evening, that's when I'll share the news with them,' he said.

Booked for naming rape victim in 2016 case, Delhi court acquits Swati Maliwal
NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Thursday acquitted MP and former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal in a case alleging that she disclosed the identity of a 14-year-old rape victim who later died. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal also acquitted Bhupender Singh, then DCW's Public Relations Officer, saying the prosecution had failed to prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt. Prosecutors alleged that Singh, at Maliwal's behest, sent a copy of a notice issued by her to the Burari police station house officer (SHO) on a WhatsApp group, 'DCW Media', which was later aired by a TV channel. The FIR claimed the notice, in which Maliwal sought details of the rape investigation, was 'intentionally circulated.' 'This court is of the considered opinion that the prosecution has failed to prove the commission of offence under Section 74 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, read with Rule 86 of the Juvenile Justice Rules, by the accused persons beyond a reasonable doubt,' the magistrate said. She noted that the sending of the notice on WhatsApp by Singh, or its sharing with a news channel, was not proved. 'Court holds the accused persons not guilty of the commission of said offence. Accused persons, namely Swati Maliwal Jaihind and Bhupender Singh, are hereby acquitted of the offence under Section 74, read with Rule 86 of the Juvenile Justice Act,' she added, citing 'complete failure on the part of prosecution or complainant (Inspector Satyabir Singh) to prove the sending of WhatsApp messages by the accused no. 2 (Singh). Thus, admission made by him, in his statement, if any, cannot discharge the burden of proof placed upon the prosecution.' On claims that a TV channel showed the notice on July 25, 2016, the court said no such notice appeared in the footage and the anchor did not reveal the victim's name. 'Thus, the allegations of the prosecution to this extent appear to be baseless and unfounded,' it said.

New Delhi: Randeep Singh, a gangster associated with Lawrence Bishnoi, has been detained by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Singh, who also goes by the name Randeep Malik, has been involved in orchestrating several killings and blasts at the instructions of Lawrence Bishnoi, including Delhi gym owner murder and a blast outside Badshah's club in Chandigarh. CCTV footage of the explosions showed a man throwing crude bombs at the clubs before running away. The explosions shattered the establishments' glass windows. Hours after the incident, Goldy Brar, linked to Lawrence Bishnoi, claimed responsibility for the blast in a purported Facebook post. Singh was allegedly involved in the firing at the instructions of Goldy Brar. Similarly, on December 10, crude bombs were thrown outside two clubs located in Sector 29, Gurugram - Warehouse Club and Human Club. Months later, in June, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) chargesheeted five accused, including Canada-based Khalistani terrorist Goldy Brar and Singh. Barring Brar and Malik, all others were arrested in the case. Now, Singh, who is said to have executed the bomb blast on the orders of Goldy Brar, is under detention, but in the US. Who Is Randeep Singh Randeep Singh, the only son of his parents, is a resident of Jind in Haryana. He has been in America for the last 10 years, where he runs a transport business under the name of Mahakal Transport. Singh reportedly drives a truck himself.
