RBI rate relief to luxury car buyers but exchange rate concerns remain, says Mercedes-Benz India
KOLKATA: The recent RBI interest rate reduction provided much-needed relief to luxury car buyers. Some of the price hikes that carmakers were forced to implement in recent years were offset by the rate cut, which helped maintain relatively stable EMIs. Speaking to TOI on the occasion of the introduction of the brand's first hyper-personalisation in India on Thursday, Mercedes Benz India (MBI) Managing Director and CEO Santosh Iyer said Mercedes Benz Financial, the company's non-banking financial arm, passed on the benefits from the RBI repo rate cut to customers. This offered relief and helped maintain relatively stable EMIs despite rising vehicle prices. However, luxury carmakers, including MBI, continue to be concerned over the exchange rate. It is this adverse forex situation that forced Mercedes Benz to implement three price hikes this year. "The euro-rupee equation was particularly challenging, moving from Rs 85-88 to nearly Rs 98 to the euro," explained Iyer. The adverse exchange rate impacts both CKD parts, which comprise 91% of the vehicles sold, and CBUs that make up the rest. "Market sentiment remains mixed, with positive indicators including strong capital markets and healthy GDP growth. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Pelajari Undo Tax collections are high, and spending continues, but currency valuation impacts make vehicles more expensive," Iyer explained. The luxury car market has shown resilience, growing by 7-8% in certain segments. Electric vehicles have been a bright spot, with luxury EV penetration increasing from 7% to 11%. "Mercedes Benz has outpaced the luxury electric segment growth, recording a 73% increase compared to the industry's 66%," Iyer noted. The company's top-end segment continued to show strength, particularly with models like the G-Class, EQS SUV, and Maybach EQS SUV. Mercedes-Benz Research & Development India (MBRDI) Managing Director & CEO Manu Saale highlighted the facility's contribution to the company's evolution. "As the largest R&D centre for Mercedes outside Germany, we're integrating Indian expertise into global operations," says Saale. MBRDI played a key role in shaping the India-inspired Collector's Edition of the AMG G 63, which includes etching the owner's name on the grab handle. "MBRDI's current focus centres on two primary areas. The first is digital twin technology, where physical processes are digitised throughout the automotive development chain. This advancement accelerates development timelines whilst reducing costs. The second area involves customer-facing digital features, including infotainment systems, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and electric vehicle charging solutions," added Saale. FPI sentiment sees uplift: Foreign investors inject Rs 3,346 crore into Indian equity markets; driven by RBI rate cut
NEW DELHI: Foreign portfolio investors injected Rs 3,346.94 crore into Indian equity markets during the week, driven by optimistic sentiment following the Reserve Bank of India 's (RBI) interest rate reduction, as reported by National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) data. The RBI's rate reduction bolstered investor confidence, resulting in substantial FPI inflows during the initial three trading sessions from June 9 to June 13, according to the reported quoted by ANI. The escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, however, affected investor sentiment towards the week's end. However, FPIs withdrew Rs 3,275.76 crore from Indian equities on Friday, the final trading session. This substantial withdrawal reduced the week's net investment to the net figure. During periods of international conflicts, such as the current Israel-Iran situation, investors typically favour secure assets like gold, potentially reducing investments in developing markets including India. Despite the week's positive inflows, June's overall FPI investment remains negative. According to NSDL data, FPIs have withdrawn Rs 5,402 crore from Indian equity markets in June thus far. The Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) announced an unexpected 50 basis points rate reduction on June 6th. The repo rate decreased to 5.5 per cent, strengthening investor confidence. May had also recorded positive net foreign portfolio investment (FPI) inflows of Rs 19,860 crore, establishing it as the strongest month for foreign investment this year. Previous data indicated FPIs sold shares worth Rs 3,973 crore in March. They had additionally sold equities valued at Rs 78,027 crore and Rs 34,574 crore in January and February, respectively. Foreign investors infuse ₹3,346.94 cr in Indian markets this week, but June still sees net outflow
New Delhi [India], June 14 (ANI): Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) pumped ₹ 3,346.94 crore into Indian stock markets this week, boosted by positive sentiment after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced a rate cut, according to data from the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL). The rate cut by the RBI supported investor confidence and led to strong FPI inflows for the first three trading sessions of the week from June 9 to June 13. However, geopolitical tensions between Israel and Iran weighed on investor mood toward the end of the week. On the last trading day of the week, Friday, FPIs pulled out a significant ₹ 3,275.76 crore from Indian equities. This large outflow reduced the net investment figure for the week to ₹ 3,346.94 crore. In times of geopolitical tension, such as the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, investors tend to shift their money to safer assets like gold, which can reduce flows into emerging markets like India. Despite the positive inflows during the week, the overall FPI investment trend for June remains negative. So far in June, FPIs have withdrawn ₹ 5,402 crore from Indian equity markets, as per NSDL data. Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) on June 6th announced a surprise rate cut of 50 basis points. The repo rate was reduced to 5.5 per cent, which gave a strong push to investor confidence. Earlier in May, the net foreign portfolio investment (FPI) inflows remained in positive and stood at ₹ 19,860 crore, making May the best-performing month so far this year in terms of foreign investment.
