
Seef Mall reimagines future
Seef Properties has announced a bold relaunch plan for Seef Mall in the Seef District, aiming to reimagine the Kingdom's oldest mall for a new generation. Over the next two years, the destination will undergo a phased transformation blending retail, entertainment, and lifestyle spaces under a modern, climate-aligned vision.
The redevelopment begins with a facelift to the jewellery section to match Bahrain's growing appetite for luxury. Global fashion brand Kiabi, making its debut in the country, will be among several new international names setting up shop at the mall.
Family and fun
A major draw will be the revival of Magic Island, now reborn with over 3,900 square metres of themed fun and 600 square metres dedicated to immersive games for children. A separate 2,500-square-metre youth zone will offer creative and recreational programming tailored to the tastes of Gen Z and families alike.
Dining, too, is getting a makeover, with indoor-outdoor concepts designed to enhance the visitor experience. Upgraded parking and green spaces, including shaded walkways and family gathering zones, aim to improve access and comfort.
Sustainability push
More than a cosmetic overhaul, the redevelopment embeds climate goals into its core. Energy- and water-saving technologies will be introduced to cut the mall's carbon footprint, supporting Bahrain's 2060 net-zero ambition.
'This strategic redevelopment reflects our long-term vision,' said Ahmed Yusuf, CEO of Seef Properties, noting the project's alignment with both market trends and national economic development.
Future focus
Seef Mall, which pioneered integrated shopping and entertainment in Bahrain, now seeks to redefine what it means to be a destination in a post-pandemic, eco-conscious era. As retail pivots toward immersive and sustainable experiences, this makeover positions Seef Mall to remain at the forefront of the region's evolving consumer landscape.

DEF CON Villages Debut
TDT | Manama Bahrain is set to become the region's new epicentre for cybersecurity innovation, with the third Arab International Cybersecurity Conference & Exhibition (AICS 2025) unveiling the launch of the Arab world's first DEF CON Villages. The announcement was made yesterday at a press conference held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Prime Minister. The event, scheduled for 5 to 6 November at Exhibition World Bahrain, is organised for the third consecutive year by Faalyat. DEF CON Villages debut The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), in collaboration with DEF CON, one of the world's most iconic hacker communities, confirmed that the Villages will focus on artificial intelligence, space, cloud security, and industrial control systems. Interactive Demo Labs will accompany the Villages, offering hands-on tech experiences to researchers, startups, and students. H.E. Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, CEO of the NCSC, said the collaboration with DEF CON represented a leap forward in positioning Bahrain as a global cybersecurity hub. 'It's a platform to exchange global expertise, showcase innovation, and prepare the region for evolving cyber threats,' he said. Youth front and centre The event will include a youth empowerment programme, mentorship initiatives, and a Capture the Flag (CTF) cyber contest to spotlight local and international talent. The NCSC also announced a strategic partnership with the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) to deliver specialised training for emerging cybersecurity professionals. A new local community initiative, DEF CON Group Bahrain, was also launched to unite experts, students, and enthusiasts focused on defensive cybersecurity practices and digital resilience. Building cyber leadership More than 10,000 participants from 50 countries are expected to attend, alongside 100 international speakers and experts. The programme includes pavilions, technical workshops, cyber competitions, and a global tech exhibition. H.E. Shaikh Salman praised the ongoing collaboration with Faalyat, which continues to bring world-class stakeholder engagement and experiential design to the region's most prominent cyber event. The third edition of AICS builds on Bahrain's commitment to secure digital transformation and cyber innovation, reinforcing its vision to lead the Arab world in shaping future cyber ecosystems.

AI-driven transformation The Secretariat's digital initiatives, particularly its integration of artificial intelligence, were also showcased. Representatives from other government bodies were briefed on how the Secretariat uses technology to enhance administrative agility, improve access to data and promote efficiency, all aligned with Bahrain's national performance frameworks. Japan Clarifies: No Defense Spending in New US Trade Deal
TDT | Manama Japan's top trade negotiator has clarified that the new trade agreement between Japan and the United States does not include any provisions related to defense spending or tariffs on steel and aluminum. Speaking to reporters in Washington on Wednesday, Ryosei Akazawa, Japan's envoy on tariffs, confirmed, 'The deal does not include anything on defense spending,' putting to rest speculation that military budgets might be part of the broader agreement. This follows earlier calls by U.S. President Donald Trump urging Japan to boost its defense spending. Akazawa also confirmed that US-imposed tariffs of 50 percent on Japanese steel and aluminum remain unchanged and were not addressed in the newly agreed trade deal. 'If you are asking whether the deal includes steel and aluminium, it does not,' he stated. Despite the exclusions, the announcement of the trade pact brought a boost to investor confidence. Japan's stock market surged in response, with the Nikkei 225 index jumping 3.18% to close at 41,040.66 yen. The broader Topix index also rose by 3.11%, finishing at 2,924.42 yen — gains led primarily by automotive stocks as the deal includes tariff reductions on vehicles and car parts. The agreement marks a step forward in trade relations between the two nations, focusing on economic cooperation without touching on more contentious defense or industrial issues.
