Delhi Police detain 36 illegal Bangladeshi migrants; banned IMO app, Bangladesh IDs recovered during raid
The operation was based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of illegal immigrants in the locality.
According to the police, the crackdown was part of a broader initiative to identify and take legal action against unauthorised foreign nationals residing in the national capital. Acting on credible information, the Foreigners Cell conducted sustained surveillance, culminating in a comprehensive verification drive across 25 footpaths and 32 lanes within the jurisdiction of Bharat Nagar Police Station.
During the operation, a suspicious individual was apprehended and interrogated. Though he initially misled the officials, he later confessed to being a Bangladeshi national without valid documentation. Based on his revelations, police identified and detained 35 more individuals from the area.
The group, comprising 19 adults and 17 children, was all found to be living without valid travel documents, visas, or permits, in violation of the Foreigners Act, 1946, and other relevant immigration laws. Police said all individuals were taken into custody and transported to the Foreigners Cell for interrogation and formal documentation.
During the questioning, the detainees disclosed that they had previously worked in a brick kiln in Mewat, Haryana, but fled the area fearing arrest by local authorities. Since then, they had been moving frequently between footpaths and were attempting to find rented housing to integrate into the local population.
Authorities recovered seven smartphones equipped with the banned IMO application, often used for international communication, along with 13 Bangladeshi national identity cards. The seized material has been sent for forensic analysis, and further investigation is underway.
Police sources said efforts are ongoing to trace the network facilitating illegal immigration and sheltering of foreign nationals. Legal proceedings for deportation and additional action under relevant immigration and cybersecurity laws are being initiated. (ANI)

Land acquisition for fencing 148 km of West Bengal-Bangladesh border yet to start
Land acquisition for setting up fencing along the West Bengal-Bangladesh border is at various stages of implementation for about 229 km, while the State government is yet to initiate the process for 148 km. Details on the land acquisition along the West Bengal-Bangladesh border were tabled in the Rajya Sabha by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in response to a question on Wednesday. The MHA informed the Parliament that the total length of the Indo-Bangladesh border in West Bengal is 2,216.7 km, out of which 1,647.696 km had been covered by a fence. 'Out of balance stretch of 569.004 km, which is yet to be covered by fence and other border infrastructure works, 112.780 km is non-feasible and 456.224 km is feasible,' the response said. The Home Ministry pointed out that out of the 456.224 km feasible length of the International Border in West Bengal, land for 77.935 km has been handed over to the executing agency. 'For the balance stretch of 378.289 km, land acquisition is yet to be initiated for 148.971 km by the State government. The remaining land for 229.318 km is in various stages of land acquisition..,' the response to a question by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs Shambhu Sharan Patel and Neeraj Shekhar stated. Timely land acquisition payments as per norms were being released, and payment had already been made for 181.635 km, but the land was yet to be handed over by the State, the MHA said. On the steps to expedite land acquisition, the MHA said regular meetings and reviews with the State government, and visits to the State to review and coordinate for ironing out challenges, if any, were being carried out. Fencing along the porous West Bengal-Bangladesh border assumes significance as the debate over alleged illegal infiltration from Bangladesh has been raging for quite some time. Over the past few months, thousands of migrant workers from West Bengal have been detained in several States on suspicion of being Bangladeshi nationals. Criminal gangs facilitating infiltration have been active along both sides of the unfenced border.

Man arrested for attacking Delhi CM is ‘serial offender', several cases registered against him in Rajkot
The accused behind the attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during the 'Jan Sunwai' program at her New Delhi residence is a 'serial offender', officials said on Wednesday. The attacker, 41-year-old Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai, a resident of Rajkot, was arrested by the Delhi police. (ANI ) The officials further said that the accused has several cases registered against him in Gujarat's Rajkot, ANI reported. Delhi CM Rekha Gupta was attacked during a 'Jan Sunwai' program at her residence in Civil Lines early on Wednesday. The attacker, 41-year-old Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai, a resident of Rajkot, was arrested soon after by the Delhi police. He has been charged for 'attempt to murder', with a case being registered against him under section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Rajesh Khimji has earlier faced several cases and has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which relate to causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, and for his presence as an abettor when an offence is committed. Apart from these, the accused has also been booked under sections dealing with illegal possession of liquor, ANI reported. Accused a repeat offender, acquitted by court four times Rajesh Khimji faced his first FIR in 2017 in Rajkot's Bhaktinagar police station, wherein he was charged under Sections 326, 504, and 114 of IPC. He was acquitted in the case by a court in Rajkot in November, 2019. The accused has been booked under the Gujarat Prohibition Act four times, and has been acquitted by courts four times, with one case against him still pending. He was booked under Section 65AA, 116B of the Gujarat Prohibition Act, which relate to sale, purchase, possession, and transportation of intoxicants, and unlawful possession of liquor. He was acquitted and released by a court in Rajkot in November 2023. Khimji was booked under the same sections again in the Bhaktinagar Police Station, and was eventually acquitted in the case by a Gujarat Court in October 2023, according to the ANI report. The accused was again booked in Bhaktinagar Police Station under section 6PI, 116B of the Gujarat Prohibition Act, with the case being pending in a court of Additional Civil Judge. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for September 29. A fifth case was registered against Rajesh Khimji under IPC Sections 324, 323, 504, 114 and GP Act Section 135(1), again at the Bhaktinagar Police Station. He was acquitted by a Rajkot court in December, 2024.

New Delhi [India], August 20 (ANI): South Africa's spin bowling all-rounder Prenelan Subrayen has been reported for a suspect bowling action after the conclusion of the first ODI against Australia in Cairns on International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday said that 'the match officials' report cited concerns about the legality of the 31-year-old's bowling action." ICC confirmed that Subrayen will undergo an Independent Assessment of his bowling action at an ICC Accredited Testing facility to determine the legality of his bowling with his off-spin, returned with figures of 1/46 in his 10-over spell.
