Markieff Morris: Lakers only need 'minor tweaks' to be contenders

There seem to be two schools of thought when it comes to what the Los Angeles Lakers need to do this summer in order to become legitimate championship contenders next season. Some say the team needs to make big, sweeping changes, which could include trading budding star guard Austin Reaves, whom it has been very reluctant to include in trade discussions over the last year or two. Advertisement But there are others who argue that the Lakers are simply a couple of moderate but non-major pieces away — a starting-level center and a two-way wing, to be exact. Lakers big man Markieff Morris, who played on their last championship team in 2020 and returned in February's Luka Doncic trade, is in the latter category. While on ESPN's "Get Up," he said that only "minor tweaks" are needed to make the team elite again. 'I think ultimately, Luka does re-sign. Now, is it four years? Is it two years? But, ultimately, I think he will be there. What I think they need to make happen to the roster, I think it's minor tweaks. You're in a position where LeBron [James] has maybe two years left and he's trying to win right now, so I don't think bringing in a ton of new pieces and revamping the team makes a lot of sense. I think where they were this year, we were really close to winning, so it's just minor tweaks. You may get a big in there, but I don't think you move core pieces to get a big and mess the team up. When it reality, you only really need one big for the big fella in Joker (Nikola Jokić), to be able to get to the Finals. So I don't think you want to put too much into that. I think you come back with the same core pieces and you just add maybe a big and you keep growing your team through working them out and trying to figure out what's the next steps.' There is certainly an argument to be made for maintaining some real continuity with this roster. Reaves and James have played together for four seasons, and forward Rui Hachimura has been with them for two and a half seasons. Doncic and forward Dorian Finney-Smith spent four and a half seasons together as members of the Dallas Mavericks. But in sports, as in life, sometimes established bonds and habits, no matter how healthy and beneficial they may be, have to be given up in order to get to the next level. With James now in his 40s and no assurances on whether Doncic will be with them for the long term, the Lakers will need to be bold this offseason and strike while the iron is hot. Chivu Pleased With Momentum Shift Inter Milan Win Vs Urawa Reds: ‘A Result That Can Break The Negativity'

Chivu Pleased With Momentum Shift Inter Milan Win Vs Urawa Reds: 'A Result That Can Break The Negativity' Cristian Chivu is hoping that Inter Milan's win over Urawa Red Diamonds yesterday can 'break the negativity.' The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, after the match. Advertisement Inter Milan defeated Urawa Red Diamonds yesterday. They got their first win at the FIFA Club World Cup in their second group stage match. Inter had to do it hard way. They trailed for the majority of the match, but won right at the end courtesy of a stoppage time winner from substitute Valentin Carboni. This gave Inter something to really build on heading into their final group stage match against River Plate. They will feel confident they can book their place in the knockouts now. Reaching the knockout rounds feels like the least Inter could do in the US. This tournament comes after an end to the season that saw Inter miss out on both the Serie A title and the Champions League. Chivu Hopes Win Vs Urawa Reds Can 'Break The Negativity' For Inter LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – JUNE 11: Head coach Cristian Chivu of FC Internazionale Milano after disembarking at Los Angeles International Airport for FIFA Club World Cup 2025 on June 11, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by) Inter Milan coach Cristian Chivu gave his thoughts after yesterday's match. 'First of all I'm happy with the performance from the guy,' the Romanian commented. Advertisement 'Because it wasn't easy today, facing a team who were organized in a low block,' Chivu continued. 'We tried everything to break down that organization. Both in the first and the second half.' 'I'm also happy because this is the first win for me after a few weeks,' the new Inter coach continued. 'We could have gotten more in the last few months. But that's how football is.' 'So we had to do something to break some of the negativity that's been building up,' Chivu added. 'From a point of view of character, the attitude, I was happy with the performances from the players who came off the bench,' added the Inter coach. 'They also tried to add something to the group and to the team.'

LAFC coach: "Thomas Müller is a perfect fit for us!"

Many football fans are currently watching the Club World Cup in the USA - the sport has never felt as alive in this country. Some managers of the country's own clubs are meanwhile scouting players for their own teams - and Thomas Müller is hottest soon-to-be free agent on the market for American clubs. 'Of course I would be delighted if he came. Thomas is a perfect fit for us with his type, his experience, his class, but also with his mentality. Anyone who thinks Los Angeles is all about the weather and the show is very much mistaken. We want to win titles. And Müller knows how to do that', says LAFC coach and former Bundesliga player Steven Cherundolo about the Bayern Munich legend. Advertisement As LAFC is a partner club of Bayern Munich, the bosses of the German club would be very pleased to see Müller joining the Los Angeles based team. Other MLS clubs, mainly Cincinnati and their boss Jeff Berding, have also eyed up a possible Müller transfer in recent weeks. 'Thomas understands the game like no other. This position behind the front line suits him - and would also work for us and would help us a lot. But we'll talk about that when the time comes', continued Cherundolo in an interview with 'BILD'. Thomas Müller has regularly opened up about his thoughts post-Bayern Munich - he does not know, whether his football journey ends after the Club World Cup or not. But he does want to focus on the tournament and his last games with Bayern Munich before making any decisions about his future.
