Kota Kinabalu: The Prime Minister's decision to let Sabah Pakatan Harapan take the lead in facing the coming state election is a wise and timely move, says Upko. Its Youth Chief Felix Joseph Saang said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's recent statement asking Sabah Pakatan to take the lead in electoral pact negotiations, among other matters, showed his confidence in the political maturity and capability of the coalition's state leaders. The decision to have Datuk Ewon Benedick leading these negotiations also acknowledges the need to let local leaders strategise based on Sabah's political realities and sentiments, he added in a statement Wednesday. On Thursday (May 29), Anwar had said Sabah Pakatan would take charge of discussing seat arrangements, forging pacts and other matters related to the state polls. Joseph said this approach of strategic autonomy would not strengthen the party machinery and allow component parties to discuss seat sharing and cooperation in the field. 'Sabah has different, complex political backgrounds and, therefore, the decision to allow us to have full (authority) in the coming state election enables us to draw up a more inclusive, localised and focused strategy,' he said. He said the main focus was on Sabah's development, strengthening the State and giving more attention to local issues, including rural development, poverty and state rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). Joseph said Ewon would be able to lead the way in forming strategic partnerships among coalitions. Nine killed in Iran courthouse attack by Jaish al-Adl group
AT least nine people were killed in an armed attack by the Sunni Jaish al-Adl Baluch group on a courthouse in Iran's restive Sistan-Baluchestan province on Saturday, including three of the assailants, state media reported. Another 22 were injured, according to the report. Jaish al-Adl confirmed the deaths of its three members in the clashes with security forces in Zahedan, the capital of the far southeastern province bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan. Jaish al-Adl, which claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement on its Telegram account, said it had killed at least 30 members of the judiciary and security forces. It said it targeted judges and court personnel, whom it accused of issuing death sentences and house demolition orders to Baluch citizens. 'We warn all judges and employees of the judiciary that Baluchestan will no longer be a safe place for them and death will follow them like terrifying shadows until retribution,' the group said in its statement. It blamed security forces for the deaths of civilians, saying they had fired indiscriminately. The Baluch human rights group HAALVSH, quoting eyewitnesses, said several judiciary staff members and security personnel were killed or wounded when the assailants stormed the judges' chambers. Sistan-Baluchestan is frequently hit by clashes between security forces and armed groups, including Sunni militants and separatists who say they are fighting for greater rights and autonomy. According to The Star , Anwar made the remark after delivering his closing address at the 50th edition of the Prime Ministers' Cup Debate Competition in Putrajaya. 'Well, I was not invited,' he reportedly told reporters when asked about the rally. Thousands of demonstrators gathered near Sogo and Pertama Complex in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon for the 'Turun Anwar' protest. The crowd, which included Perikatan Nasional leaders and supporters dressed predominantly in black, is expected to march to Dataran Merdeka Over 2,000 police officers have been deployed across the city, with acting KL police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad warning that any provocation or unlawful behaviour will be met with firm action. Anwar had earlier said the government welcomes criticism and peaceful assembly, but urged protesters to act responsibly. KOTA KINABALU (July 26): Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Sabah STAR) Beaufort is experiencing a notable political shift with a surge in new memberships, including several prominent local figures, as momentum builds ahead of the next Sabah state election. Beaufort parliamentary coordinator Jin Tze Vun revealed that among the latest to join the party are Shabudin Mohd Dun and his sister Noraina — the children of the late Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Dun Bin Banir, a respected former Umno leader in the area. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Jin said their decision was not political opportunism but a reflection of their alignment with Sabah STAR's unwavering stance on defending Sabah's rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
