Man charged with murdering housemate
Faisal Abdul Aziz, 41, nodded after the charge was read out to him before Magistrate Mohamad Redza Azhar Rezali on Thursday (July 3).
However, no plea was recorded as the case fell under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
He is charged with murdering Muhammad Fakhrullah Pauzihal Ali, 33, at a house in Kampung Kubu Gajah, Sungai Buloh near here at 11.26pm on June 25.
The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, provides the death sentence or imprisonment for not less than 30 years or not more than 40 years and not less than 12 strokes of the cane, if convicted.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Alia Anisa Khairus Masnan while the accused was unrepresented.
The court set Oct 10 for mention of the case for the submission of the chemist's report. - Bernama

Toddler dies of suspected abuse in Sungai Buloh
KUALA LUMPUR: A two-year-old girl has died with bruises, swelling, and cuts on her body, believed to be the victim of abuse, in Paya Jaras, Sungai Buloh on Thursday. Sungai Buloh police chief Supt Mohd Hafis Muhammad Nor said police received a report on the child's death from a medical officer at Sungai Buloh Hospital at 12.45am. He said the toddler was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state by a couple, aged 27 and 28, who were also her adoptive parents. "The attending doctor reported receiving an unconscious child brought in by the couple. "Checks revealed bruises, swelling, and injuries all over the body, along with dried blood stains around the mouth and nose," he said in a statement last night. Mohd Hafis said that following the report, a team from the Sungai Buloh district police headquarters Criminal Investigation Division arrested the couple to assist in the investigation. "Initial checks found that both suspects had no prior criminal records. "A remand application will be submitted at the Shah Alam court tomorrow (today) to facilitate further investigation," he said. He said the child's body has been sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital Forensic Department for a post-mortem and the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. Police probe links between hospital body and Gelang Patah shooting
JOHOR BAHRU: Police are investigating a possible connection between a fatal shooting at a petrol station in Gelang Patah and the discovery of a dead man at Sultanah Aminah Hospital. The victim, a 42-year-old man from Sungai Petani, Kedah, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and no identification documents. Johor police chief Datuk M Kumar stated that CCTV footage showed two individuals leaving the body in a dark-coloured car. Fingerprint checks revealed the victim had four prior criminal records.
