Defence Ministry to host workshop on UAV & C-UAS indigenisation tomorrow

New Delhi, July 15 (UNI) In a significant push towards achieving India's self-reliance in defence technologies, the Defence Ministry through Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) and in collaboration with the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS), will host a workshop and exhibition on Indigenisation of Critical Components Currently Being Imported from Foreign OEMs in the Areas of UAV & C-UAS tomorrow at the Manekshaw Centre.
The event comes in the backdrop of recent India-Pakistan hostilities, including Operation Sindoor, which highlighted the strategic importance and operational effectiveness of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS), a Defence Ministry statement said.
These systems played a vital role in enhancing situational awareness, enabling precision targeting, and reducing risks to human personnel demonstrating the maturity, dependability, and value of India's indigenous defence technologies during real-time operations.
Recognising the importance of reducing the dependency on OEMs for critical UAV and C-UAS components, the upcoming workshop-cum-exhibition aims to bring together all relevant stakeholders, including defence experts, policymakers, military leaders, scientists, and private industry to develop a strategic roadmap for indigenisation.
The event is expected to serve as a catalyst for innovation, knowledge sharing, and long-term capability building in unmanned systems.
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan will be the chief guest while Chief of Integrated Defence Staff Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit will deliver the closing address, summarising the deliberations and presenting the expected outcome, a strategic policy document focused on the indigenisation of UAV and C-UAS systems and their critical subcomponents.
The initiative aligns with India's vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, aiming to bolster national security, enhance defence preparedness and transform India into a global hub for advanced military technologies.
The workshop will feature talks by prominent experts, live demonstrations of indigenous technologies, and discussions on overcoming existing challenges in domestic production.

Ganesh Mandals asked by CM to have ‘Operation Sindoor' as theme this year

MUMBAI: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday asked Ganesh Mandals in the state to have 'Operation Sindoor' as the theme for this year's pandals. He said the country has shown its strength to the world through this operation; hence, it needs to be showcased by the Ganesh Mandals to create awareness during the festival this year. Devotees carry an idol of Lord Ganesh for visarjan (immersion) in Mumbai. The 10-day long festival will end on Monday. (Kunal Patil/HT photo) The CM's urge comes at a time when the opposition has been blaming the PM Modi government for using 'Operation Sindoor' for their political benefit. 'The Ganesh Mandals should use this year's Ganpati Festival to create awareness about the strength India showcased to the world through 'Operation Sindoor' and the importance of using Swadeshi (indigenous) products,' Fadnavis said. 'The mandals should also display tableaux based on 'Operation Sindoor', dedicated to the soldiers.' He had called a high-level meeting on Wednesday to review security and other arrangements for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations that begin on August 27. Fadnavis appealed to the mandals to coordinate with the administration to celebrate the festival in an atmosphere of peace and enthusiasm. He then directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to grant a five-year permission to the sculptors involved in making Ganesh idols. 'Though their licenses will have to be renewed every year through the single-window system BMC had started,' he stated. He further instructed the BMC to increase the number of artificial lakes for immersion of idols and to add more boats along the seashore for immersing tall idols in deep waters. The state government has given Ganesh Chaturthi the status of a state festival, the CM said. Therefore, the state is implementing extensive planning to celebrate it on a large scale. All concessions provided to the Ganesh Mandals last year will also continue this year. 'While celebrating, proper adherence to the law must be ensured. Since Eid-e-Milad will also be observed during Ganesh Chaturthi this year, care should be taken to maintain communal harmony so that law and order are not disrupted anywhere,' he stressed. He also assured he would take steps to extend the permitted days for use of loudspeakers during the festival, as per the court directives. Fadnavis also asked the Ganesh Mandals to submit a written declaration to the BMC administration stating that their offices are not used for commercial purposes. After they do so, no property tax will be levied on their offices.

Independence day security arrangements focus on air and water safety in New Delhi

New Delhi: Air and water security are the priorities this Independence Day. The security forces are focused on drone surveillance and aerial monitoring. Over 11,000 personnel, including army, police and paramilitary, have been deployed at Red Fort, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor against terrorism. Surveillance at water treatment plants has been enhanced after intelligence inputs suggested that there could be attempts to tamper with water supply. Commissioner SBK Singh has appointed a DCP-rank officer as the in-charge of the anti-drone system. Speed boat patrols have been pressed into service in the Yamuna sections located in the vicinity of Red Fort. "Sewerage maps have been obtained to ensure foolproof arrangement," an officer said. Two mobile command and control vehicles have been deployed for the first time. They are equipped with real-time video streaming capabilities to transmit live visuals from two districts. "They are connected to the Integrated Command, Control, Coordination, and Communication (C4i) System at Police HQ. This setup enables senior officers to directly monitor live footage and issue timely instructions to on-ground personnel," another officer explained. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Algeria Solar Panels: See How Much It Will Cost To Install Them (See Prices) Solar Panel | Search Ads Learn More You Can Also Check: Delhi AQI | Weather in Delhi | Bank Holidays in Delhi | Public Holidays in Delhi | Gold Rates Today in Delhi | Silver Rates Today in Delhi Spotters will be posted on high-rise buildings to monitor suspicious activity. Kite catchers have also been deployed on rooftops to prevent any kites or flying objects from entering restricted areas. To counter other potential aerial threats, anti-drone systems will be deployed to detect and neutralise all suspicious flying objects or unauthorised drones. In addition, air defence guns will provide a robust layer of protection against possible aerial attacks. AI-enabled facial recognition systems will be deployed in vehicles stationed at traffic access points leading to Red Fort. Surveillance will be augmented by temporary control rooms equipped with CCTV footage monitors to ensure a swift response to incidents and provide heightened security for the Independence Day event. Two patrol boats will keep vigil in Yamuna Khadar. The armed patrolling teams have been instructed to keep any eye out for sub-conventional aerial platforms, including manned and unmanned flying objects. "Any suspicious activity will be immediately reported to the control room. Paramilitary forces and Delhi Police personnel are jointly conducting thorough combing operations in the forested areas of Yamuna Khadar," said an officer. Around 200 buildings, mostly commercial, will be sealed. In cases where residential buildings are affected, windows facing the parade route will be sealed, the cops said. A multi-layered barricading system has also been put in place at critical locations. Around three dozen security drills have been conducted to ensure a glitch-free event. As part of the comprehensive security arrangements, around 60 companies of paramilitary forces, along with 350 commandos, will be stationed across key locations to ensure a robust security presence. To facilitate the movement of special guests, invitees and the general public attending the Independence Day ceremony, Delhi Metro will begin operations at 4am on all its lines from all terminal stations. From 4am to 6am, trains will run at a frequency of 30 minutes, after which normal service schedules will resume for the remainder of the day, the rail company officials said.
