KLIA T1 upgrades with RM30 mln for better passenger experience
The improvements aim to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency, marking MAHB's first major upgrade since privatisation in February.
KLIA T1 general manager of operations Abd Hasman Abd Muhimim stated that 14 new features and upgrades will help raise the airport's service quality scores.
The enhancements also prepare KLIA for higher passenger traffic, particularly with Malaysia hosting the 47th ASEAN Summit in October and Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
'For these enhancements, we do not set any budget cap. We will continue to invest in upgrading all facilities at KLIA,' he said during a media briefing.
Passenger numbers have already risen by 9.9 per cent in the first half of 2025, reaching 30.1 million compared to the same period last year.
Key upgrades include an open-belt bag-drop system with five mobile check-in units, increasing baggage handling capacity tenfold.
Domestic security lanes have been redesigned with extended trays, cutting wait times to under five minutes and doubling processing speed.
International departures now feature nine self-scanning boarding pass lanes, replacing manual counters for faster processing.
Additional improvements include priority immigration lanes for families and passengers with reduced mobility, as well as emergency response teams on e-scooters equipped with medical supplies.
Passenger comfort has been boosted with 5,000 new lightweight trolleys, wider parking bays, and upgraded washrooms with sensor taps.
Cultural elements have also been introduced, including heritage murals from Penang and Melaka, while young travellers can enjoy an orangutan-themed playground at Gate C30. - Bernama

The companies, 11 commercial goods companies and 17 bus operators, had reached out to the department after Transport Minister Anthony Loke gave them a two-week grace period beginning June 25 to settle their outstanding summonses, he added. 'So for the JPJ, we assist by issuing the latest records and how to settle them immediately. We do see all companies wishing to settle their outstanding issues,' he told reporters at the 2025 JPJ Family Day event at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia sports centre yesterday. He said there were some others that have yet to settle their summonses but added that the department would give them a grace period of a month starting from July 9 for them to do so. 'If it remains unsettled, the JPJ will blacklist the vehicles under the companies. There are those that we have already blacklisted as they did not respond to us,' he said, Bernama reported. He also said that commercial goods companies and bus operators were eligible for the RM150 compound rate that applies to all vehicles issued with Automated Awareness Safety System (Awas) summonses.

WORLD By Shakir Husain NEW DELHI, July 27 (Bernama) -- Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar called on Bangladesh interim leader Muhammad Yunus in Dhaka on Sunday. Yunus, during the meeting, sought Malaysia's support for Bangladesh to join the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Bangladesh applied to become an ASEAN sectoral dialogue partner in 2020. Yunus also invited Malaysian companies to invest in Bangladesh's growing economy. "Asia is ageing rapidly, but Bangladesh has a lot of young people. Half of our population is under the age of 27. Set up your industries here and export from Bangladesh. It will help both our economies," he said. The interim government's chief advisor informed the PKR deputy chief about Bangladesh's political reforms following last year's uprising, which ended Sheikh Hasina's nearly 16-year rule. Nurul Izzah spoke at Dhaka University on Sunday at a conference marking the first anniversary of the July Revolution.
