Sekhar Kammula
is off to a flying start in the North American circuit With advance bookings for its premiere advance booking are closing on a high, the film is now poised for a strong opening day performance
As per the latest trade data, Kuberaa has raked in $193,250 ( Rs 1.65 crore) from 403 locations across 803 shows in the USA alone, selling over 11,000 tickets before its premiere day tomorrow.
Including sales from Canada and other parts of North America, the film's total premiere advance collections have reached an impressive $210,000.
What's particularly noteworthy is the massive surge in advance bookings on the final day. On June 18, the USA advance sales stood at $115,800. Within 24 hours, this figure shot up by 66.9%, adding $77,453 on the last day of sales — a clear indication of rising audience interest and positive pre-release buzz surrounding the film.
This robust growth has set Kuberaa on track for a $350K+ premiere day gross in North America, which would mark a highly promising overseas debut for the film. The combination of its action narrative, visually rich promos, and Dhanush,

Trade suggest that if the premiere night and weekend word-of-mouth hold steady, Kuberaa could emerge as one of the better-performing Indian films in the overseas market this year.

Fire trio reunites: Shabana Azmi recalls how Farhan Akhtar's input changed the ending

Veteran actor Shabana Azmi recently reunited with director Deepa Mehta and co-star Nandita Das, celebrating 25 years of their landmark film Fire. Along with a photo where the trio is seen in matching black outfits, Azmi reflected on the film's legacy, surprising creative decisions, and Farhan Akhtar's small contribution to the film."The #Fire trio! 25 years later the film continues to be a point of reference all over the world," Azmi captioned the post, emphasising the impact of the 1996 film, which was part of Mehta's Elements revealed that 'Fire' originally had a different ending, which was eventually changed on the advice of a young Farhan Akhtar. 'Few know that it had a different ending. It was young @faroutakhtar who advised that the ending should be changed to what is finally kept,' she wrote. Another interesting detail involved the film's language. Azmi shared that 'Fire' was initially intended to be shot in Hindi. However, the dialogues didn't resonate authentically in translation. 'So literally two days before the shoot, Deepa Mehta decided to keep the original English, greatly approved by producer Bobby Bedi. Thank god the actors were bilingual and could rise to the challenge,' she which told the story of two women navigating desire and freedom within the confines of a patriarchal household, stirred controversy upon release but has since achieved cult status. Lauded for its bold narrative and emotional depth, it remains a seminal work in Indian independent cinema and LGBTQ+ at a masterclass session during the Mumbai Film Festival 2024, where Azmi was in conversation with actor Vidya Balan, she had discussed the ending and how Farhan Akhtar's advice changed the film's climax."What's interesting is that Farhan is younger than Zoya and I had discussed this film with him back then. He was very young, and I told him to read the script. And he loved it. He said, 'I don't like the end because this woman (Radha) dies. It will ruin the whole purpose of the film, and people might think, you did something wrong'. He said, 'She must survive'," Azmi said, adding that she shared the feedback with by Deepa Mehta, 'Fire' starred Nandita Das, Shabana Azmi, Jaaved Jaaferi, Vinay Pathak and Kulbhushan Kharbanda.. Keerthy Suresh on what drew her to 'Uppu Kappurambu': Its blend of satire, heart

The makers of Telugu film "Uppu Kappurambu" unveiled its trailer on Thursday and its lead actress Keerthy Suresh said the unique blend of satire and heart drew her to the film. "What drew me to Uppu Kappurambu was its unique blend of satire and heart," said Keerthy. Talking about her character, she added, "Apoorva is a refreshingly different character. She's idealistic, determined, and a little out of her depth. It was an absolute joy to bring her character to life, especially in a world so rooted in our rural culture." She said that the film uses humour and local flavour to spotlight something serious, and that's what makes it hit home. The Telugu Original Movie is a satire comedy set in a fictional South Indian village grappling with increased pressure on its burial infrastructure. It also stars Suhas, Babu Mohan, Shatru, and Talluri Rameshwari. As per the statement, the film is set in the early 1990s, unfolds in Chitti Jayapuram, a seemingly quiet village with a very bizarre crisis, it's run by Uppu Kappurambu out of space to bury the dead. As the newly appointed, idealistic village head Apoorva takes charge, she faces ridicule from locals who are uncomfortable with a woman in power. Determined to fix things, she turns to Chinna, the quirky graveyard caretaker, whose own motives spark unintended chaos. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo "Playing Chinna was unlike anything I've done before," shares Suhas. He added: "He's a simple guy caught in a very odd and layered situation. The trailer beautifully captures the tone of the film. It's quirky, emotional, and full of surprises. What I love about Uppu Kappurambu the most is that it never tries to be preachy. The trailer is just a peek, there's a lot more madness and emotion waiting to be discovered." Produced by Radhika Lavu, under the banner of Ellanar Films Pvt Ltd, the film is directed by Ani. I.V. Sasi, Uppu Kappurambu will premiere on Prime Video on July 4.
