Dana White issues brutal response after Conor McGregor was 'removed' from the UFC
Dana White has brutally shut down reports Conor McGregor has been 'removed' from the official UFC roster.
The 37-year-old UFC star has not fought since suffering a brutal defeat to long-time rival Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 back in 2021. He was due to make his return to the cage last year against Michael Chandler, but was forced to pull out of the contest after picking up an injury in training.
Over the last few months, McGregor has been seen ramping up training amid talks of a potential UFC comeback. The Irishman has expressed his desire to return to the cage and has recently entered the drug testing pool. It comes after US president Donald Trump announced his plan to host a UFC event at the White House.
However, fans were left fearing the worst for McGregor's possible return after UFC Roster Tracker reported that the Irishman had been REMOVED from the active roster. Usually, that would suggest a fighter was no longer in the promotion or retired. The news quickly went viral, and it did not take long for the UFC boss to have his say.
The UFC Roster Tracker is not associated with the promotion - but it does track the organisation's roster from UFC.com. On Thursday evening, White was quick to shut down the rumours and point out that the former dual-weight UFC champion has not been removed from the roster. 'Total b*******,' White wrote under a report on Instagram.
UFC journalist Ariel Helwani, reached out to McGregor and his team - who also shut down the stunning claim. In a post uploaded to X - formerly known as Twitter - Helwani wrote: " Conor McGregor HAS NOT parted ways the UFC. Both @TheNotoriousMMA and his team confirmed this to me. He also confirmed he is back in the pool, has submitted tests and all have come back clean. 'It's all systems a go,' he said."
The Irishman is targeting a return to action next year and his potential comeback could take place on July 4, 2026, after White confirmed that the promotion's planned trip to the White House is all set for the aforementioned date. White revealed he has plans to meet with Trump and his daughter Ivanka at the end of the month to finalise the plans. It will mark the first time a UFC fight card would be hosted at the White House "It is definitely going to happen," White, a high-profile supporter of the US president, told CBS television.
"I talked to him last night -- 'him' being the president -- and I'm flying out there at the end of this month, and I'm going to sit down and walk him through all the plans and the renderings, and we're going to start deciding what he wants and doesn't want." The UFC supremo added: "When he called me and asked me to do it, he said: 'I want Ivanka in the middle of this.' So Ivanka reached out to me, and her and I started talking about the possibilities, where it would be and, you know, I put together all the renderings."
White is not ruling out an appearance from the Dubliner, but he will expect his star attraction to prove he is committed. "I mean, if you see, he's been posting videos of himself training, he's back in the pool now, he wants the White House fight," White told Pardon My Take. "Listen, if he starts getting in shape and starts training and stays the course, that's the fight he wants, he keeps telling me he wants that fight so we'll see how it plays out over the next few months."
When is Conor McGregor's next fight?
Following Trump's announcement, many fighters were quick to be fully onboard with the idea and express their interest in featuring on the card. It remains unknown as to whether or not McGregor will ever fight again, but it seems as if he is interested in the card. In a post uploaded to social media, the 37-year-old posted: "Happy 4th of July, USA. Excited with President Trump announcing a UFC fight event at the White House! I would be honoured! Count me in!!"
UFC boss Dana White also seems to be onboard with the idea after McGregor leaked a conversation with the 55-year-old. The Irishman sent the UFC boss a few voice notes - seemingly relating to the aforementioned event at the White House - to which White replied: "I love it!" The 37-year-old later doubled down on his comments during a recent BKFC event, saying: "It's looking like I'm headed to the Oval Office again. That's where I'm headed next."

Paul Merson makes Man Utd vs Arsenal predication in 'must-win' for Gunners
Paul Merson feels the trip to Manchester United on Sunday is absolutely critical for Arsenal and their Premier League title hopes this season. The new campaign gets going on Friday night as the defending champions Liverpool host Bournemouth, with the most eye-catching game of the first weekend coming on Sunday. The Red Devils host the Gunners at Old Trafford with Ruben Amorim hoping to prove that his team are much improved from last season's disaster, while Mikel Arteta wants to take the first step on a title challenge. Arsenal have finished second in each of the last three seasons and the pressure is starting to mount on the Spaniard to deliver a significant piece of silverware in the near future. Merson feels the Gunners have to get their campaign off with a win, especially with very difficult games to follow, which could see them lose ground early in the title race. Metro's new weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every Friday – sign up, it's an open goal. The former England star told SportsKeeda: 'This is a must-win game for Arsenal, it's as simple as that! If you have a look at their fixtures after this weekend, it goes like – Leeds United at home, Liverpool away, Forest and Man City at home before a trip to Newcastle. 'If they don't beat Manchester United on Sunday, I don't expect them to beat Liverpool and City during this run! So all of a sudden, they could be seven or nine points behind in the title race. 'Viktor Gyokeres scored a brilliant header in pre-season. When Arsenal are under pressure in certain games, he will become a nuisance to opponents by running the channels and working the defenders. He's a real presence in front of goal and you can count on him to cause problems to opponents. 'I think Arsenal can win the league, if they can keep all their main players fit. I'd be shocked if Gyokeres, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard all play 35 games and arsenal still don't win the Premier League. They are massive favourites if that happens.' It is a big claim to put Arsenal as 'massive favourites' ahead of Liverpool and Manchester City if they just keep their players fit, but Merson is backing the club where he became an icon. He is also backing them to pick up the all important win on Sunday, tipped the Gunners to head back to north London with a 2-1 victory. Manchester United legends Roy Keane and Gary Neville also discussed the fixture on the Stick to Football podcast, with the Irishman agreeing with Merson's prediction of 2-1 to Arsenal. Neville, though, has backed his former club for a dream start to the season. 'United are winning that,' said Neville. 'I'm going United, 2-1. I just think it's a really bad game for Arsenal to get first up. I think it's a challenging game for Arsenal first up.' More Trending Alan Shearer has gone for the other option, tipping a draw at Old Trafford this weekend. The Premier League legend told Metro: 'It's wonderful for us to sit down on Sunday and watch two giants go head to head so early in the season. Tough one to call but I'll go for a draw. 'There's always a surprise result on the opening weekend. I don't know what a surprise result would be in this game. It's so tough to call with so many interesting moving parts. Gyokores on one side, Sesko on the other. 'Amorim and Gyokores know each other really well. Zubimendi may free up Declan Rice more, Man United have done really well in forward positions. It's a tough one to call so early in the season. There'll be needle at Old Trafford.' Keely Hodgkinson admits injury absence since Olympics has been upsetting
Olympic 800 metres champion Keely Hodgkinson admits she has found it 'upsetting' to be out of action for over a year. The 23-year-old has not raced since claiming gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics after sustaining a hamstring injury in February, then suffering setbacks – twice-postponing her season debut. Hodgkinson will return to the track on Saturday in the 800 metres at the Silesia Diamond League meet, though Hodgkinson's signature event is not a 'diamond' discipline in Poland. 'It's been a frustrating year for real,' said Hodgkinson, who still hopes to be in fighting shape for the world championships in Tokyo, now less than one month away. View this post on Instagram A post shared by 🌪 (@ 'Coming back into June, not being able to do anything and it had been so long, coming off the back of winning the Olympics last year, not ideal at all that I couldn't even get on the start line. 'It's definitely been a bit upsetting at times. Missing London was hardest for me, because it was so good last year. I just wanted to be there in front of my home crowd, especially coming back after the Olympics. 'It's been frustrating but it makes the good times sweeter and it makes it even better to be here now. 'I think tomorrow is just a stepping stone on the way there. I'm looking forward to getting out there, just being competitive again. I've come out ready to go, so I'm just excited to put something together.' Hodgkinson was forced to pull out of the inaugural edition of her eponymous Keely Klassic event in February, then the Stockholm and London Diamond Leagues. "It's been a frustrating year" @keelyhodgkinson on battling back from injury in 2025. #DiamondLeague #SilesiaDL 🇵🇱 — Wanda Diamond League (@Diamond_League) August 15, 2025 It was at the latter last season that Hodgkinson set a new national record of one minute 54.61 seconds in the 800 metres, weeks before becoming just the third British female Olympic champion at the distance after Ann Packer and Dame Kelly Holmes. Hodgkinson's trip to Poland has already got off to a speedy start. She revealed: 'The guys yesterday, the organisers, picked us up in a Porsche, we get about 10 minutes in and they were like, 'do you want to drive it?' 'I was like, 'of course I want to drive it!'. He was actually being serious, so I got in the car and drove it all the way back. It was fun.' Hodgkinson hopes to secure her first world title in Japan after back to back silvers at the last two championships, and is making the best of what remains in her control. The Lausanne Diamond League on August 20th – where the 800 metres is a diamond discipline, is next up. Hodgkinson added: 'It's been a long time. Over a year since Paris. It wasn't my plan to be this late, but I'm just super happy to get back on the start line. 'I've missed it. I've missed it a lot. This is what I trained to do, so I can't wait to go out there and just give it my absolute best and we'll see what happens.'

Khamzat Chimaev strips naked to make weight for Dricus Du Plessis fight
Khamzat Chimaev has lost 37lb in the last three months as he prepares to face Dricus Du Plessis for the UFC middleweight title at UFC 319 on Saturday night Khamzat Chimaev has completed a near 40lb body transformation, weighing in for his middleweight title fight against Dricus Du Plessis on Saturday night. Chimaev is set to challenge defending champion Du Plessis at UFC 319 in Chicago this Saturday night. After being required to strip naked, the Russian successfully weighed in on Friday at 183lb, a staggering 37lb lighter than when he began training camp for the most significant fight of his career. "When he fought Whittaker he just took him down and broke him" said Chimaev's friend and training partner Movsar Evloev on the Overdogs podcast. "Nobody had done this against Whittaker, and Khamzat still has big power of punching, he can turn off your lights with one punch. "I think he's even bigger than Du Plessis, of course he is; he's big and strong as hell. I don't know how much in pounds, but he was more than 100kg (220lb)." Later, champion Du Plessis weighed in at the limit of 185lb as he gears up to defend his belt for the third time, a title he won from Sean Strickland last year, reports All Out Fighting. Chimaev has competed just four times in the past three years, with his most recent bout occurring last October when he finished Robert Whittaker in the opening round. The champion has issued a stark warning ahead of their clash. "You can be the biggest asshole in the world or the nicest guy in the world, I'm still going out there to try and kill you. People want to see the two best fighters in the world go at it, and it's why this fight is so big," Du Plessis said. "A lot of times it's not possible to get the two best guys [to fight], because one is injured and sometimes the two best guys in the world don't want to fight each other. Because it's tough and there can be only one winner. I want to fight the best in the world, and now people can see it." Reflecting on their recent face-off, Du Plessis continued: "There was nothing but respect. He said to me that he's happy that I'm healthy and ready to go, and I said to him, 'right back at you.' It doesn't always have to be that hostile, but when the cage closes, I'm in there to kill him. "I'm better than him in every single aspect. I'm built different and I'm the champion for a reason and he's gonna find out on Saturday night. The goal always remains the same: to be the greatest ever do this sport."
