‘Not sparing anyone': What Karnataka government told high court on Bengaluru stampede
During a suo motu hearing on the Bengaluru stampede in which 11 people died, the Karnataka government told the Karnataka high court on Thursday that 2.5 lakh people had unexpectedly congregated outside the Chinnaswamy stadium to celebrate the victory of the local team, RCB, in the Indian Premier League. The government also told the court that they had deployed over 1400 personnel, including senior officials, to maintain the law and order situation outside and inside the stadium.
Advocate General Shashi Kiran Shetty, appearing for the state, told the court that 2.5 lakh people turned up because it was published that the entry was free, reported Live Law. He said the event management is handled by RCB during IPL matches.
He said the huge crowd accumulated because people from outside the state also turned up outside the stadium. He further said that the government has ordered a magisterial probe whose report will be furnished in 15 days.
He also said the government is not "sparing anyone" responsible for the tragedy.
On the court's query regarding the number of gates, the advocate general submitted, "Total 21, and instructions were that they were open and people were allowed inside and seated. 2 lakh people were around this place. We have started an inquiry, and notices have been given to everyone; we are not sparing anyone," he said.
He said the government will video-record the probe and place it before the court.
"Are there any vehicles which can be made available if such an incident happens, to which hospitals will the injured be taken? All this is to be included in SOP," the bench observed.
Shetty responded by saying that the government has taken the incident seriously, and it will prepare an SOP.
Eleven people died, and at least 33 were injured in the stampede that took place before RCB's victory celebrations. CM Siddaramaiah blamed overcrowding for the tragedy.

Apart from this, a government letter surfaced revealing that the Karnataka government had granted written permission to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to hold an event at Vidhana Soudha to celebrate RCB's victory. The letter, dated June 4, was a swift response to KSCA's request, which the government approved by applying 19 conditions, as a huge crowd was expected in the Chinnaswamy stadium. Among the top concerns mentioned in the approval letter is the safety of the iconic Vidhana Soudha premises. 'Due to the large crowd that will gather during this event, precautions should be taken to ensure that no damage is done to the Grand Steps, statues, roads, or parks. You must be willing to cover the full repair or cost if any kind of disaster occurs,' mentions the letter. The other key conditions included, 'The program should be conducted without disrupting the traffic system. Action will be taken in this regard in coordination with the Police Department. The program should be conducted in a manner that does not interfere with office work. Keeping the event venue clean. Plastic bottles and items are strictly prohibited.' Apart from this, the event management company arranging the breakfast was asked to pay an advance security deposit of Rs 10,000, which was refundable, and a non-refundable Rs 10,000 fee. Meanwhile, a sessions Court in Bengaluru on Friday remanded four individuals, including senior Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) official Nikhil Sosale and three event managers, to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with the stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium here. They were arrested in a joint operation by the Cubbon Park Police and the Central Crime Branch (CCB) at Kempegowda International Airport in the early hours of June 6 (Friday). (ANI)

"Siraj is very, very capable": Bharat Arun on India fast bowler

Arun highlighted Siraj's 2021 performances, particularly how his natural angle worked well against left-handers. Arun said while speaking to Boria Majumdar on Revsportz, 'Especially when bowling to left-handers, he had an actual angle which was leaving them.' 'But he tried to cut out that angle by going round the wicket to them. And your effectiveness comes down, especially when there is a slight movement off the wicket,' he added. He pointed out a specific moment at Lord's where tactical adjustment made a significant difference. 'Especially at Lord's, where there is a slope. And if you're using it when you're bowling from the Pavilion End, and if you're going to be bowling round the wicket, you don't get the advantage of the slope,' he said. 'So, just at tea time, I remember asking him to go over the wicket and bowl. The line should be the leg of the left-hander. So, natural angle that leaves him, it will be leaving him on off stump,' he noted. Arun says that change paid off. He described Siraj as 'very, very capable' and implied that he might be one of the most important bowlers in the upcoming series due to his awareness of conditions and grasp of angles. The former India bowling coach also spoke highly of Arshdeep Singh's potential, especially in seam-friendly English conditions. 'I was particularly impressed with Arshdeep during the IPL. CM Siddaramaiah should resign and apologise: Former Deputy CM Govinda Karajola

Speaking to the media today at the BJP state office, Jagannath Bhavan, he said that 11 people died in the stampede that occurred at the RCB victory ceremony, and Siddaramaiah's government is directly responsible for this tragedy. 'Therefore, if Siddaramaiah has any morals, he should resign and apologise to the people of the state,' he said. The previous government did not come forward to celebrate these economic crime companies and did not work as brand ambassadors. He criticised Siddaramaiah's government for working as a brand ambassador. He accused the Karnataka government of being directly responsible for the tragedy that happened in Bengaluru on June 4.
