Minister promises action in Praveshanolsavam incident at school
Director of General Education Shanavas S. has received the report on the incident that occurred at Fort High School, West Fort, from DDE Sreeja Gopinath.
In the wake of an adverse report against the school, Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty said on Wednesday that appropriate action would be taken in the matter. The Minister said the school headmaster had met him and explained that an organisation that distributed school supplies to students had included POCSO case accused Mukesh M. Nair, a vlogger, in the function.
However, the participation of Mukesh was a lapse on the part of the school authorities. The headmaster and the teachers could not claim they did not know the accused. No random person could be included in such events just because they were associated with a non-profit, the Minister said.
'It was wrong to involve a POCSO case accused in the school Praveshanolsavam. Such persons should not be asked to participate in any public event in a school,' Mr. Sivankutty said.
The Minister had directed the Thiruvananthapuram Deputy Director of Education to conduct an urgent inquiry into the incident and submit a report.

Pune: A sessions court in the city discharged Bishop Emeritus Thomas Dabre (79) of Poona Diocese of charges of allegedly violating provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act by failing to disclose information about a sexual assault incident involving a 14-year-old boy at a school in 2018. The police, the victim or the informant did not register an FIR until September 2018. The Bishop cannot be held responsible for the delay on the part of the police and the informant. " The judge said the maximum punishment prescribed under Section 21 of the POCSO Act was one year imprisonment. The FIR was registered on March 16, 2018. 1 arrested on charge of 8-year-old tribal girl's rape in Dhule
Nashik: The police have arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl on Friday in a village in Shirpur, Dhule district. Dhule's deputy SP Sunil Gosavi said, "The accused man was produced in a court in Dhule on Saturday. The court remanded him in five-day police custody." The incident occurred at around noon on Friday. The accused man and the victim lived in the same neighbourhood. At 11am, the accused allegedly visited the girl's house and lured her with a bike ride around the village. He took her to a deserted spot where he raped her. About an hour later, he dropped her back near the locality and fled. The girl returned home crying and informed her parents about the incident. As the news spread, residents ransacked an eatery belonging to the accused man's uncle and contacted the police. The police reached the incident spot and began searching for the accused. Gosavi said the accused man escaped into the adjoining forest area but was apprehended within a couple of hours. A case against the accused under relevant sections of the BNS and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) was registered late on Friday night. ‘Rejected' stalker stabs 14-year-old girl, slits own throat in panic
CHENNAI: A 14-year-old class IX student was stabbed and injured by a stalker who barged in when the girl was home alone at Pallavaram on Friday, police said. Police said the stalker, Selvam, 25, of Tiruvannamalai stabbed the girl when she refused his advances. Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to the girl's rescue. The stalker panicked and slit his own throat and collapsed, police said. The girl and her assailant were taken by locals to the govt hospital at Chromepet for treatment. Hospital authorities alerted police, following which a team from Pallavaram recorded the girl's statement.
