Andhra Pradesh spends Rs 2,700 crore monthly on pensions: Minister Kollu Ravindra
VIJAYAWADA: Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra on Saturday said the State government is spending Rs 2,700 crore every month, amounting to Rs 33,000 crore annually—towards pensions for various categories including the elderly, widows, disabled persons, and single women.
The Minister, accompanied by APSRTC Chairman Konakalla Narayana Rao, personally distributed NTR Bharosa pensions to beneficiaries in Machilipatnam. He announced that 95,000 pensions that were previously discontinued during the YSRCP regime will be reinstated and distributed on June 12.
Ravindra said the government is currently providing pensions to over 64 lakh beneficiaries across the state each month. He also highlighted the upcoming launch of the Talliki Vandanam scheme in June, under which each school-going child will receive Rs 15,000 in financial assistance.
Further, the Minister said a free bus travel scheme for women is set to begin in August, with guidelines currently being finalised. The Minister, along with Krishna District Collector DK Balaji, SP R Gangadhara Rao and others, took part in a Mega Yoga Event at Manginapudi Beach. Approximately 1,000 people participated in the session.

Ankita Bhandari case becomes Congress-BJP battleground in Uttarakhand
WHILE the Pushkar Singh Dhami-led BJP government is claiming credit for 'swift justice' after a Uttarakhand court on Friday sentenced three persons, including former BJP minister Vinod Arya's son, Pulkit, to life imprisonment in the Ankita Bhandari murder case, the Congress has alleged that evidence was destroyed and there were 'lapses in the probe'. Referring to the September 23, 2022, demolition of the 'illegal' Vanantara resort where Ankita was employed and lived, a day before her body was recovered from the Chilla canal, state Congress spokesperson Garima Dasauni targeted a BJP MLA. All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba was also present at the press conference held by the party Monday. 'The MLA, acting on what she claimed were instructions from Dhami, demolished the resort where the girl was staying. She then released a video thanking the CM for his sensitive response. Even as tampering with a crime scene is a grave offence, Dhami himself in a social media post on September 24 boasted about the demolition of the Vanantara resort,' Dasauni said. Acting DGP Abhinav Kumar said the judgment was based on evidence. Dasauni also pointed to the 'irregularities' in the BJP's poster, circulated widely on social media by party workers, which claimed that the government had changed lawyers thrice at the victim's family's behest, provided jobs to Ankita's kin, ensured that the accused's bail was rejected due to strong arguments by prosecutors and provided Rs 25 lakh financial assistance to the family. 'It also falsely claimed that the accused were arrested within 24 hours but in reality it took six days,' she said. Claiming that 'Ankita had to die' due to the VIP that the Dhami government was 'shielding', former CM Harish Rawat said the Congress would reinvestigate the case if voted to power in the 2027 Assembly polls. 'We will set up an SIT within 10 days of government formation… The incident is of great significance as Ankita sacrificed her life for honour. There is a general feeling among the people that the BJP government helped cover up the case,' Rawat told The Indian Express, adding that Bisht's role also needed to be probed. Following the court's verdict Anikta's father, Virendra Bhandari called for the BJP MLA's role and the VIP's details to be made public even as Dhami cited his government's 'sankalp (resolve)' in ensuring justice for Ankita. 'She was a daughter and sister of the mountains… Soon after the incident came to light, we directed the police to arrest the accused, and constituted an SIT headed by a woman IPS officer. Due to this, the accused were not granted bail and have been sentenced to life in prison. We are also in touch with her family,' he said. State BJP chief and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt also sought to credit Dhami's leadership for the verdict and hailed the role of investigating agencies. 'The CM had made it clear that the culprits would be awarded the strictest punishment. Acting upon his directives, all proceedings – from investigation to trial – were conducted with the consent and involvement of the victim's family. Despite the high number of witnesses and evidence, justice was delivered in a minimal timeframe,' he said. A receptionist at the Vanantara resort, 19-year-old Ankita was murdered on September 18, 2022, for allegedly refusing to 'offer special services' to a VIP guest, whose identity is yet to be revealed. While the Congress alleged 'malpractice' in keeping the guest's details hidden, Ankita's parents had moved the Uttarakhand High Court seeking the case be transferred to the CBI. However, the petition was dismissed. Protests had erupted across the state after the case came to light with the Congress demanding a CBI probe into it while accusing the BJP of tampering with the evidence. Arya as well as his elder son Ankit, who was the vice-president of the OBC Commission, were expelled in the wake of the incident. The Congress had also taken up the case ahead of the Lok Sabha polls with its state chief Karan Mahara urging the Election Commission (EC) to transfer DGP Kumar. '…The investigation of Ankita Bhandari's heinous murder case is still ongoing but the statement of the current DGP regarding the investigation, in which he has been found defending the government like the spokesperson of the ruling party, is against the dignity of his current post,' he had said in his letter to the EC. Banke Bihari temple priests threaten to 'relocate Thakurji' over corridor redevelopment plan
AGRA: Priests of the centuries-old Banke Bihari temple in Mathura, who are opposed to the proposed 'redevelopment plan for the Banke Bihari corridor in Vrindavan', alleged on Monday, that if govt does not heed their concerns, they will relocate the Banke Bihari deity to another site. The latest development came after a series of protests by the Goswami community members and locals against the proposed corridor and the creation of the Banke Bihari temple trust by the state govt. Ghanshyam Goswami, 60, a member of the management committee, said, "The problem is that the govt wants to turn this place of faith into a picnic spot. The Banke Bihari Trust was formed without consulting us. We're open to suggestions for improving the management of the temple but if this situation continues, we'll not hesitate to move Thakurji out of the temple. This temple was founded by our forefathers, and the customs and traditions here date back to the 19th century. " The Supreme Court, in its May 15 verdict, permitted the UP govt to continue with the 'Rs 500 cr redevelopment plan for the Shri Banke Bihari temple corridor in Vrindavan'. The project, approved by the bench of Justice Bela M Trivedi and Justice SC Sharma, enables the state to utilise temple funds to acquire about 5 acres of land near the shrine. Calls for redevelopment intensified after a stampede-like incident took place during the Janmashtami celebrations in 2022, which resulted in two fatalities. In Sept 2023, Allahabad high court directed the state govt to implement a corridor plan to manage crowds and ensure safety. Although the state said it engaged with all stakeholders, Shebaits and local residents have claimed they were excluded from discussions. On Monday, Agra's divisional commissioner Shailendra Kumar Singh, Mathura DM Chandra Prakesh Singh, Agra range DIG Shailesh Kumar Pandey and additional officials held a meeting with the stakeholders to seek a resolution. Shailendra Kumar Singh said, "The proposed corridor has been cleared by the SC. The locals have raised some issues, and we have reached out to them. In the issues related to the temple, we ensured that no change will be there to the customs and traditions of the temple. Shopkeepers had doubts related to compensation, and we cleared them. The streets in and around the temple are narrow and unsuitable for the influx of people who visit the temple daily, so this corridor will be beneficial for all the stakeholders. "

The introduction of language labs and the auditing of private schools to regulate fees are further signs of our commitment to educational equity and excellence. Healthcare is also undergoing a renaissance, exhibiting the elements of continuity and change. Mohalla Clinics are being transformed/upgraded into Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. These new hubs are fortified with upgraded diagnostics, infrastructure, and staffing support while ensuring job security for health workers. Under PM-ABHIM, we've established 11 critical care blocks and over 1,100 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. The first brain health clinic is now operational in Dwarka, with 10 more planned, expanding access to mental healthcare for all. For our senior citizens, a mobile registration drive for the Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana is underway to ensure security, support, and self-respect. The government in Delhi is working on the trinity of Js — jobs, justice, and jan kalyan. Delhi is not just India's capital, it is the crucible of its ambitions. People from every corner of the country come here in search of education, employment and a better life. We are transforming this influx of aspiration into opportunity through a network of Rozgar Melas at the industrial, district, and state levels. These melas cater to all skill levels. Anchored in Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya's principle of antyodaya, our government is working to ensure economic dignity for every citizen. The arteries of this city, its roads, bridges, power grids, and water systems, are being strengthened with urgency and integrity. In these 100 days, we have launched a Rs 3,140 crore initiative to bring sewer lines to all unauthorised colonies. A Rs 1,500 crore Yamuna Rejuvenation Project is breathing life into the sacred river with the construction of 40 sewage treatment plants. The inauguration of Asia's largest single-stage sewage treatment facility in Okhla stands as a testament to this commitment. We are combating water scarcity with a 50-year master plan that integrates real-time monitoring stations along the Yamuna and innovative technologies such as sewer-cleaning recycler machines. Delhi's battle with pollution is not just a policy issue but a moral imperative. The Delhi Heat Action Plan 2025 is our first integrated climate resilience blueprint. It includes shaded bus stops, 'cool roofs,' 3,000 digital water ATMs, and special heatwave wards in hospitals. Our electric vehicle initiative is accelerating: 400 DEVI buses are already operational, with 2,080 more on the way. We are installing 48,000 EV charging stations citywide, expanding PNG connections to all 111 villages by 2025, and introducing PM Surya Ghar solar incentives. Palam has seen the launch of vertical power stations, and four new waste-to-energy plants are on the horizon. Beyond infrastructure, we are driving behaviour change through 20-day cleanliness drives, cattle-free street campaigns, and active citizen involvement in waste segregation. In these 100 days, we have redefined not just policy priorities but civic experience. Women's safety has been bolstered by lighting up 4,000 dark spots. Night markets are being expanded to support local vendors. Anganwadis are now co-located within school premises under Poshan 2.0 to deliver integrated nutrition and cognitive care to young children. We are working to celebrate 75 years of the Indian Constitution as well as to promote the idea of 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat' with year-long celebrations of sesquicentennial anniversaries of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Bhagwan Birsa Munda. These 100 days are a prologue. A new Delhi is emerging, which is clean, green, just, empowered, and inclusive. A Delhi that does not just carry the burden of history but channels it into hope. A Delhi where every citizen is not only seen but heard and valued. Inspired by PM Modi's vision and propelled by the people's faith, we are building not with pomp or platitudes, but with purpose.
