A 65-year old masseuse was allegedly strangled to death by a man with three prior homicide charges in Quezon City.
In Bea Pinlac's Sunday report on '24 Oras Weekend,' the 65-year-old victim went to a residential compound on the midnight of May 13 after the suspect hired her for a massage.
After some time, CCTV footage showed the suspect outside the compound pushing a kariton or cart, containing several garbage bags.
When the suspect returned to the compound, the cart was empty.
Garbage collectors found the victim's body stuffed inside a trash bag the following day.
According to police, the suspect and the victim had an argument after the man allegedly was not satisfied with the massage service.
The cops added the suspect was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Meanwhile, the victim's sister said she could not believe that the first time she would see her sibling after seven years was at her funeral. She said she will pursue justice for her slain family member.
More than a week after the victim's body was discovered, authorities managed to arrest the 47-year-old suspect who went into hiding in Biñan, Laguna.
The arresting team said the victim's bag and drug paraphernalia were found in the suspect's possession.
Authorities also confiscated the suspect's kariton, which seemed to be newly painted.
Investigation revealed that the suspect is currently facing homicide charges for allegedly killing a 61-year-old woman in Leyte in 2018 over an argument concerning a parcel of land.
It was also learned the suspect was previously detained in Muntinlupa City for allegedly killing two other people.
The suspect admitted the victim went inside his house but refused to give further details.
The police said the suspect told them that he was in shock and killed the victim out of anger.

The victim, "Lola Minerva," was on her way home from the market when a man and a woman approached her and talked to her, eventually persuading her to board a car with her assailants. Inside the car, the suspects took away her cash and jewelry, and hurt her. She was dropped in the area of Baseco Compound and left her with P200 for transportation. The victim immediately reported the incident to the barangay for assistance. The barangay official said a portion of the road where the senior citizen passes by was closed that day, which prevented the pedicabs from entering and transporting residents to their homes. The official added that they have heard of the same modus victimizing the elderly who often go to the market. He said the barangay will assist the police in pursuing the case. —LDF, GMA Integrated News

Ombudsman directs VP Sara, 9 others to answer confidential funds raps
The Office of the Ombudsman has directed Vice President Sara Duterte and nine others from the Department of Education and Office of the Vice President to respond to the charges filed by the House of Representatives in connection with the alleged misuse of confidential funds. In an order issued on Thursday and furnished to GMA Integrated News, the Ombudsman gave Duterte and the other respondents ten days from receipt of the order to file their counter-affidavits 'together with the affidavit/s of their witness/es, and other supporting documents.' 'Failure to file counter-affidavit within the aforesaid period shall be deemed as a waiver of respondents' right to submit controverting evidence, and the preliminary investigation shall proceed accordingly,' the order said. The Ombudsman said it would not entertain any motion to dismiss or motion for bill of particulars. The order came after the House filed a complaint against Duterte and several others on Monday for plunder, technical malversation, falsification, use of falsified documents, perjury, bribery, corruption of public officers, betrayal of public trust, and culpable violation of the Constitution, a source said. The complaint stemmed from the recommendation of the House Committee on Good Governance and Public Accountability to file charges against Duterte for the alleged misuse of P500 million in confidential funds of the OVP and P112.5 million in confidential funds of DepEd from 2022-2024. Also named respondents were Edward Fajarda, Special Disbursing Officer; Gina Acosta, Special Disbursing Officer; Asst. Secretary Atty. Sunshine Charry Fajarda, Director for Strategic Management Office; retired Maj. Gen. Nolasco Mempin, Undersecretary for Administration; and Annalyn Sevilla, Undersecretary for Finance Service—all from DepEd. Those charged from the OVP were Atty. Zuleika Lopez, Undersecretary and Chief of Staff; Lemuel Ortonio, Asst. Secretary and Asst. Chief of Staff Lt. Col. Dennis Nolasco, Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group; and Col. Raymund Dante Lachia, Commander, Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group, Philippine Army. Duterte's alleged misuse of confidential funds is also one of the issues raised by the House in its impeachment complaint before the Senate. She has denied the allegations. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
