With a Hills Hoist in the backyard and lace tablecloths in the kitchen, the cottage amazed buyers with its immaculately preserved tableau of the past as it came to market for the first time ever.
The three-bedroom, two-bathroom house on a 670 sqm lot at 9 Tawarri Cres, Burleigh Heads, sold 11 days after listing, to a local buyer planning to build a family home.
Marketing agent Paddy Quinn, of PRD Burleigh Heads, said the price was the highest achieved for an original home in the popular community of Koala Park, located close to picturesque Tallebudgera Creek.
'This is a prime lifestyle location where high-end luxury homes have sold for phenomenal amounts, and the result is testament to how competitive it has become to get into Koala Park,' Mr Quinn said.
The last comparable sale was a four-bedroom house on the same street, sold for $1.94m in December and on the market for the first time in 26 years.

With its cream and green exterior, retro coloured glass, shagpile carpets and shelves displaying religious figures, Mr Quinn said the house at 9 Tawarri sent many buyers on a trip down memory lane.
'The home had never been renovated and was kept pretty much as though time had stood still since the 1960s,' he said.
'The idea of the campaign was firstly, to pay homage to the vendors' late parents for their quality construction of a home that showcases enduring craftsmanship and timeless character – the saying, 'they don't build them like they used to', comes to mind.'
It was sold as a deceased estate, and had been home to the seller's mother, a beloved local character known as 'Terry', since it was built until her death aged 91.

PropTrack data shows house prices in Burleigh Heads were up 16.2 per cent over the past 12 months to a median of $1.569m.

Instagram Credit: Supplied Known for its hyper-trendy styles and social media-infused trends that go viral on social media platforms including TikTok, Princess Polly's target audience are women aged 18-26. A fast-fashion brand is defined as inexpensive clothing produced quickly in response to rapidly changing trends. Brands and companies eager for a B Corp certification must undergo a strict round of vetting to pass, earning a minimum score of 80 for its B Impact Assessment, a wide-ranging test comprised of 200 questions that examines a company's impact on the planet in five different categories – environment, community, customers, governance and workers. 'B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input material,' a B Lab spokesman told NewsWire. Princess Polly achieved an 86.8 in its overall impact score, just passing the threshold to be certified and above the median business average of 50.9. Instagram Credit: Supplied However, RMIT School of Fashion and Textiles senior lecturer Harriette Richards said Princess Polly's B Corp certification was 'disappointing' and claimed 'it undermines the value and credibility of the accreditation'. 'It demonstrates the value of the 'sustainability' label as a marketing tool as Princess Polly attempts to position itself as distinct from other ultra-fast-fashion brands such as Shein by claiming that they are sustainable,' Dr Richards said in a statement. 'While they may use more environmentally friendly materials than some of its ultra-fast fashion counterparts, the reality is that their business model, which relies on overproduction and overconsumption, is unsustainable.' Fellow RMIT lecturer Jon Hewitt told NewsWire the fashion brand's 'trend driven, high volume, at low cost' business model 'encourages overconsumption' and the 'prioritisation of quantity over quality', which he said made the brand 'widely criticised as inherently unsustainable'. 'Princess Polly's B Corp certification sends the message that a fashion enterprise only needs to offer some low-impact products to achieve certification, rather than fully embracing a triple bottom-line approach where people, planet, and profit are all equally prioritised in their business model,' Dr Hewitt said. 'This suggests that a brand can maintain a profit-maximising, high-volume, low-cost model, typical of fast fashion, while still receiving the same accreditation as brands that genuinely embed sustainable and ethical practices across all areas of their business.' 'They are essentially being treated the same as brands with limited or questionable commitments to sustainable and ethical practices,' he said. 'When a fast-fashion brand like Princess Polly receives the same certification as these more committed brands, it undermines the value of their hard work and dedication to truly sustainable and ethical practices.' Dr Hewitt told NewsWire the certification 'raises alarm bells', arguing it would only add confusion to consumers who were seeking out more sustainable options. 'There is already a lot of confusion among consumers, and making sustainable purchasing decisions is hindered by the growing presence of greenwashing found throughout the sector,' he said. 'Third-party accreditations can help reduce confusion and even scepticism by providing a clear signal of trustworthiness without the need for detailed explanations. 'However, if certifications like B Corp are found to be certifying brands with questionable sustainable practices, consumer trust will ultimately be undermined, leading to even greater confusion as to how to shop sustainable fashion.' In April 2025, B Lab introduced a new set of standards for its certification that Dr Hewitt hoped would 'make it more difficult to obtain certification in the future'. 'This may mean that Princess Polly benefited by receiving certification before these changes were implemented, and they won't need to reapply until 2028,' he said. Instagram Credit: Supplied Speaking to NewsWire, a Princess Polly spokesperson said the fashion brand was 'proud' of its B Corp certification and said the 'decision to pursue B Corp certification stems from wanting to be part of a community that recognises and enables progress and change makers'. 'As a brand built for the next generation, we're proud to be taking bold steps to drive meaningful change at scale,' they told NewsWire. 'Princess Polly was the second Australian fashion retailer with near- and long-term carbon reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative.' The spokesperson said the brand 'outperformed the industry average' for its emissions, scoring a B grade by the Carbon Disclosure Project in 2024. The spokesperson also argued the brand's garments were 'not cheaply made or priced'. 'We have made significant progress converting a large portion of our range into lower environmental impact materials and will continue growing this number,' they said. They said Princess Polly manufactured 37 per cent of its products this year from 'certified lower-impact materials' and was placed in the top 20 per cent of companies in the 2024 Baptist World Aid Ethical Fashion Guide. 'Princess Polly, like all B Corps with recertification dates in 2028, will be expected to recertify under the new standards to maintain their certification.'

A home a day: Qld's top-selling property hotspots revealed
More than one property was sold every day of the year in Queensland's 22 most popular suburbs, with a staggering 1246 homes changing hands over 12 months in the top-selling market alone. Suburbs with the highest volume of sales since July 2024 comprised a mix of city apartment hubs and outer metro and regional growth suburbs, many with house prices below Greater Brisbane's $1m median. Surfers Paradise was top-ranked overall, with more than three apartments sold each day since last year – eclipsing runner-up Brisbane City by a whopping 452. Median unit prices in those hotspots sit at $760,000 and $670,000. PropTrack's Market Trends report showed an almost even split between units and houses among the suburbs where more than 365 annual sales were recorded. Brisbane's inner ring markets including Fortitude Valley, South Brisbane, West End and Newstead performed strongly, with 639, 533, 413 and 387 units sold respectively. Nundah in the city's north was another standout, notching up 374 apartment sales. For houses, buyers seeking more bang for their buck ventured further, led by Redbank Plains (482 sales), then Caboolture (479), Morayfield (404), Springfield Lakes (378), and Narangba (373). The Gold Coast's Pimpama took the crown for most house sales overall, at 492. Nearby Upper Coomera (384) and Coomera (377) also made the cut, with first-home buyers snapping up much of the stock previously held by investors in the region's northern growth corridor. The Coast's CBD suburb, Southport, also featured with 744 apartment sales, along with nearby Labrador, 454. Other regional top sellers included Buderim and Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast, and Kirwan in Townsville. Brisbane buyers agent Andrew Cumming said the city suburbs on the list generally offered more opportunities to get into an otherwise competitive market. 'The volume of transaction is really driven by affordability – it is easy to get in because there are so many properties available. Lifestyle and proximity to the city are the main reason these areas are doing well,' Mr Cumming said. But he cautioned about the potential for fluctuating values. 'Growth is good now while demand is high, but it might not last forever,' the co-director of said. 'From my experience as a sales agent prior to being a buyers agent, there is too much volatility in those high-volume markets and that can hurt your value as a homeowner. 'The more transactions, the more risk there is of someone selling at a lower value that can impact your investment.' He advised seeking properties with a 'point of difference', such as those in a smaller, boutique building, or located in a quieter, more exclusive pocket. 'We tend to focus on suburbs with a lower transaction volume. But suburbs like Newstead and Fortitude Valley have quality investment merits, where the super-high volume of transactions is anchored by the number of developments, but also by the lifestyle amenities.' Mr Cumming bought a two-bedroom, one-bathroom unit in Fortitude Valley in 2020 for $400,000, which is now valued at about $720,000. 'Mine is in a smaller building and sits within a really nice character pocket with a fixed supply.' In Newstead, an influx of new strata developments had propelled the suburb, located 3km from the CBD, with unit prices soaring 22 per cent since last year to a median of $666,000. New projects on the market range from spacious luxury apartments priced from $2.295m to a riverfront tower designed for retirees with units from $830,000. Surfers Paradise agent Katrina Keegan, of Coastal, put the Glitter Strip capital's surge down to increased buyer confidence, and the diversity of local real estate on offer. She and partner Penelope Nicholls sold 124 Surfers Paradise properties over the past 12 months, including both on and off-market sales, with local stock ranging from one-bedroom studios priced at $250,000 to an $8m beachfront penthouse. 'Prices per square metre and days on market have really dramatically come down,' Ms Keegan said. 'We are dealing with some really smart and savvy buyers who know the market and what they are prepared to buy, but they don't necessarily want a bargain.' She said the proportion of owner-occupiers purchasing properties priced above $700,000 had doubled in the past two years, while 70 per cent of buyers for homes under $750,000 were investors. First-home buyer activity had also spiked, along with Boomers looking to acquire a Gold Coast holiday home. Unit owner Harry Laumets near doubled his return on a two-bedder in a 2005-built beachside tower. He bought the apartment for $450,000 in 2020 and has just sold it for $800,000 after three weeks on the market. 'Prices were quite reasonable at the time I bought. In hindsight, people were trying to offload investment properties. But since then, prices have just been going up and up, even with the glut of units that were already here,' Mr Laumets said. The retiree is returning to Melbourne after a five-year Queensland sojourn. The data aligned with quarterly results by prop tech firm InfoTrack, with Springfield Lakes and Surfers Paradise recording the most house and unit sales from April to June this year. 'Springfield Lakes continues to gain traction due to its blend of lifestyle, community, and affordability,' InfoTrack head of property Lee Bailie said. 'Nearby Redbank Plains also made the top 10 [last quarter]. 'Both suburbs offer their own unique character but are also well within commuting distance to central Ipswich and the Brisbane CBD,' he said. How first-home buyers can turbocharge their chances Mr Cumming said soaring house sales in outer metro suburbs like Caboolture reflected rapid population growth. 'Buying and selling is challenging in Brisbane, whereas in suburbs like Caboolture there is more of an abundance. 'People are selling out of there to get into Brisbane, but Caboolture and the Moreton Bay region are growing really fast and the number of transactions is fuelled by the amount of interest driven by affordability and proximity to Brisbane giving it the benefit of growth piggybacking off Brisbane,' he said. House prices in Caboolture were up 13 per cent from last year, to a median of $750,000.

A high-flying real estate agent, who recently sold Mick Fanning's home for more than $16 million, has been banned from one the country's most exclusive restaurants for life. Troy Dowker, an agent with Michael Kollosche, is not allowed to enter Gold Coast restaurant Rick Shores 'under any circumstances'. A source told that the ban was likely to cause headaches for the agent, as the venue provides networking for the rich and famous.
