Let me explain. Meta Platforms is the leading social media company. It boasts 3.43 billion daily active users across its websites and apps -- that's pretty close to half of the 8 billion people on Earth, a total that includes many who are too young to be on any of the company's platforms. Meta's deep ecosystem makes it an excellent target for advertisers. That's how it generates most of its sales, and that business is still booming. In the first quarter, Meta Platforms' revenue increased by 16% year over year to $42.3 billion. The tech leader's earnings per share (EPS) came in at $6.43, 37% higher than the year-ago period. Here's the good news for investors: Meta Platforms' business is getting even better thanks to artificial intelligence (AI). The company has used AI-powered algorithms to increase engagement on its apps. That means more time spent on Facebook and Instagram, which naturally leads to greater demand for ads and higher revenue. Meta Platforms is also utilizing AI to enhance the ad launch process. Management aims to fully automate this system by the end of 2026. These initiatives could have a significantly positive impact on Meta Platforms' performance in the long run. That's why the company is doubling down with massive investments in AI infrastructure, to the tune of $65 billion this year, according to some reports. The company also has other growth opportunities, including business messaging on WhatsApp. Although economic and trade concerns could continue to impact the stock -- Meta lost some ad revenue from Asia-based retailers in the first quarter -- the company should still deliver strong results thanks to the lucrative opportunities at its disposal. Lastly, Meta Platforms initiated a quarterly dividend last year. The company offers a quarterly dividend of approximately $0.52 per share. Meta's payouts look safe, and although it doesn't have a substantial dividend history yet, investors can benefit from the growth and income it will provide in the next five years and beyond. Booking Holdings helps travelers plan for their trips by providing everything from flights to accommodations, car rentals, and activities. The company operates an ecosystem of websites that includes its namesake, Priceline, as well as Kayak and others. Booking Holdings' famous brands and ecosystem grant it a network effect. The more people join one of its platforms, the more attractive it is for hotels or car rental companies, and vice versa. That's why Booking Holdings remains one of the undisputed leaders in this niche. Financial results remain robust, too. In the first quarter, the company's revenue increased by 8% year over year to $4.8 billion. While that's not too impressive, Booking Holdings' adjusted EPS was up by a juicier 22% year over year to $24.81, while its free cash flow jumped to $3.2 billion, 23% higher than the year-ago period. Booking Holdings' business could also be impacted by tariffs, particularly if they lead to economic issues, a decline in consumer spending, and lower travel demand. People are less likely to splurge on expensive vacations if the economy is rough. That's nothing new for Booking Holdings, though. Even if it faces some near-term uncertainty due to the state of the economy, the company's prospects are intact. The travel and accommodation industries should maintain an upward trajectory, in the long run, thanks to factors like an increasing worldwide population and gross domestic product growth. Meanwhile, Booking Holdings is also leveraging the power of AI to enhance its business. It introduced an AI-powered travel planning tool and plans to implement many more initiatives that could make its platform even more attractive. That's an excellent sign for the future. Booking Holdings began paying dividends last year, with an initial quarterly dividend of $8.75 per share, which has since increased to $9.60. Booking Holdings' shares aren't cheap -- they are trading for just under $5,400 apiece. Thankfully, most online brokers now offer fractional shares. Booking Holdings is worth the money for growth investors who also want some dividends on the side. A 30-year-old dentist sparked a fiery discussion on Reddit after questioning a widely shared statistic they saw on Instagram that claims one in four doctors over 60 has a net worth of less than $1 million. Posting on the popular r/whitecoatinvestor subreddit, the dentist pushed back on what they called a suspiciously high figure. 'I saw a post on Instagram that said a quarter of doctors in their 60s still have under 1 mil net worth. That just does not pass the sniff test,' the dentist wrote. 'Pretty much any MD that does a basic 401(k) match and does the classic 'buy too much house' will hit 1m easily.' 'Even a moron usually takes the 401(k) match, and a moron buys too much house etc. But a moron will hit 1m if they only save 6% with the 401(k) match for 30 years.' They went even further, pointing out how the stat doesn't add up based on income levels alone: 'Most teachers easily hit that making 1/10th a doc salary.' Personal finance expert Dave Ramsey echoed a similar concern about doctors' financial habits, comparing them to actors and musicians. 'Medical doctors are about as notorious as people in the music business or the acting world for being stupid with money,' he said in a Facebook video. 'Only they add a level of arrogance to it because they're so freakin smart.' But commenters quickly filled in the gaps that the dentist might be missing. The most common culprit: divorce. 'Divorce is crazy. My buddy is paying three women alimony right now. In total it's north of 40k a month,' one person wrote. Another claimed, 'I had to pay my ex 5.5M.' Some pointed out that even highly paid doctors fall into the trap of overspending. 'I had one doctor who cleared $60k a month and he was spending $70k a month and had ZERO savings,' an accountant commented. Others mentioned delayed earnings and student debt. Many doctors start working in their 30s, which leaves less time for compounding. One commenter described an ear, nose and throat surgeon in his 50s still paying off student loans and unable to help his kid with college costs, despite over 20 years in practice. As one person summarized the issue: 'There are plenty of millionaire teachers and plenty of broke doctors. High-income profession doesn't guarantee anything.'Despite the flood of stories, the dentist wasn't ready to back down. 'I just don't see that as possible that 1/4 do that poorly,' they wrote. 'Millionaire by age 60 is not a flex,' they added. 'Docs need to have more like 5m to be patted on the back.' One retired dentist chimed in with a sobering take: 'Docs are the poor of the rich.' For the dentist, the financial fate of most doctors should be clear-cut: 'I think every single one of my classmates will hit 1m by 60 as long as they work their career till 60. LinkedIn cofounder Reid Hoffman says people are underestimating AI's impact on jobs, but it won't be a 'bloodbath'

Reid Hoffman, the venture capitalist who cofounded LinkedIn, said AI will transform jobs, but he rejected the idea that it will result in a "bloodbath" for job seekers. "Yes, I think people are underestimating AI's impact on jobs," Hoffman said on an episode of the Rapid Response podcast, released Tuesday. "But I think inducing panic as a response is serving media announcement purposes," he said, "and not actually, in fact, intelligent industry and economic and career path planning." The podcast's host, Bob Safian, asked Hoffman about comments made by Dario Amodei, CEO of AI firm Anthropic, in May. In an interview with Axios, Amodei warned that AI companies and governments needed to stop "sugarcoating" the potential for mass job losses in white-collar industries like finance, law, and consulting. "We, as the producers of this technology, have a duty and an obligation to be honest about what is coming," Amodei said. He estimated that AI could spike unemployment by up to 20% in the next five years, and may eliminate half of entry-level white-collar jobs within that same period. Hoffman said he had called the Anthropic CEO to discuss it. "'Bloodbath' is a very good way to grab internet headlines, media headlines," Hoffman said. (Axios, not Amodei, used the phrase "white-collar bloodbath.") But, Hoffman added, "bloodbath just implies everything going away." He said he disagreed with this assessment, believing that transformation, not mass elimination, of jobs is a more likely outcome. "Dario is right that over a decade or three, there will be a massive set of job transformation," Hoffman said. But he compared it to the introduction of tools like Microsoft Excel, which were believed by some at the time to mark the end of accountancy roles. "In fact, the accountant job got broader, richer," Hoffman said. He added: "Just because a function's coming that has a replacement area on a certain set of tasks doesn't mean all of this job's going to get replaced." Instead of AI eliminating roles, Hoffman predicted: "We at least have many years, if not a long time, of person-plus-AI doing things." Hoffman isn't the only business leader to question Amodei's AI doomsday prophecy. Speaking at VivaTech in Paris earlier this month, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said he and Amodei "pretty much disagree with almost everything" on AI. "One, he believes that AI is so scary that only they should do it," Huang said. "Two, that AI is so expensive, nobody else should do it." Huang added, "And three, AI is so incredibly powerful that everyone will lose their jobs, which explains why they should be the only company building it."
