Barcelona confirm exit of Ansu Fati for a second time
As announced by FC Barcelona, Fati has joined AS Monaco on a loan deal until the end of the season. While no details were revealed by the club, it is thought the option to buy is in the region of €11m, while Barcelona will also retain a buyback option on the forward were that deal to be completed.
Both club and player appear to have come to terms with the fact that an exit and game time are necessary for Fati, but the Blaugrana were keen to retain a degree of control over his future. Monaco will pay around 50% of his wages. Fati has also extended his deal until 2028, reducing the impact on Barcelona's salary limit of his deal, and it will reportedly save them around €8m this season.

Two seasons in purgatory
Although Fati has missed around six months of action over the last two seasons in total, for the majority of his campaigns at Brighton and Hove Albion and Barcelona, Fati has now been fit. However with fierce competition for places, Fati was in need of a run of games to get back match sharpness to compete or his spot. However that lack of sharpness obviously hindered his ability to win a spot. After four seasons without consistent football, Fati will be desperate to get it at AS Monaco.
Fati's performances for Hansi Flick
Fati should flashes of his old self getting into positions under Flick, but struggled to execute with the same verve that made him a breakout star. As per Sport, Fati leaves Barcelona rather frustrated with the German coach, feeling he was not given a fair chance to show his value. Flick questioned Fati's commitment in training on a number of occasions in press conferences, and he only received 289 minutes of action across the season.

MADRID (AP) — Atletico Madrid signed Italian left back Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta on Tuesday. The 22-year-old defender will arrive on a five-year contract, Atletico said. Financial details of the transfer were not immediately disclosed. Ruggeri came through Atalanta's youth system and made his first-team debut as an 18-year-old in a Champions League match against Liverpool in 2020. Atletico said Ruggeri is a left back 'with good crossing ability and great stamina.' He spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Salernitana and returned to Atalanta the following season to establish himself as an important piece for coach Gian Piero Gasperini. Ruggeri was included in UEFA's Europa League Team of the Season in 2023-24. He was an international at all youth levels for Italy and was called up to the senior squad in March for the Nations League quarterfinal against Germany. Atletico has already parted ways with three defensive players from last season's squad: Reinildo, Axel Witsel and Cesar Azpilicueta. Wife of British soccer club executive killed in jet ski collision in Spain
Debra Wright, the wife of a soccer team executive in England, was tragically killed in Spain over the weekend after a reported collision involving a jet ski and speedboat, the team announced in a statement Monday. Ashton Town Football Club, which plays in Division One North of the North West Counties League, released a statement on social media confirming the death of 47-year-old Wright, the wife of team chairman Chris Wright. "It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that on behalf of Ashton Town FC we announce the tragic death of Debra Wright, wife of Chris our Chairman who was tragically killed whilst on holiday in Spain on Saturday evening," a statement on X said. "Our family are in mourning at this sad time and we ask for time for Chris and his family and everyone and the club to be able to start to come to terms with this tragedy. RIP Debra, fly high sweetheart." Wright was aboard a jet ski being ridden by a friend near Playa de Los Toros, in Manilva, Malaga, at around 7 p.m. when the watercraft was struck by a speed boat, The Times reported, citing local law enforcement. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators told the outlet the driver of the speedboat allegedly had a "low" test reading for alcohol and that the individual had been detained on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter. According to The Times, the person was released. Tributes for Debra Wright poured in on social media. The team announced Monday that its match against Burscough was postponed "as a mark of respect" for the Wright family.
