Rain drenches the Nilgiris
As a result, Ooty taluk experienced the highest rainfall among the six taluks in the district.
Since the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert for the region, the Nilgiris district administration declared a holiday for schools on Tuesday. All tourist spots in the district, including the Government Botanical garden, Government Rose Garden in Ooty, Sim's Park, Lamb's Rock and Dolphin's Nose in Coonoor were closed for the day following instructions from district collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru.
Revenue officials reported no tree falls in the district, except for two incidents in Coonoor.
While the day was predominantly wet, there were intervals of dry weather that allowed residents and visitors to move around the Ooty town. The town experienced a maximum temperature of 15 -14 degrees Celsius.
The Nilgiris region has been experiencing consistent rain for the past two months. M Ganesh, a local farmer, expressed concern, saying, 'Since carrots are cultivated year-round and this is the harvesting period, too much rain could spoil the yield.'
Horticulture officials indicated that the rain benefited seedlings planted in various gardens a week ago.

More frequent, intense rain tomorrow: Met
Kolkata: While the monsoon trough shifted closer to the Himalayan foothills, an upper air cyclonic circulation brought rain to the city and other parts of south Bengal. While the city is expected to get a few spells of rain every day, the Met office predicted a higher intensity on Thursday. "The window for more frequent rain may begin on Wednesday night, with Thursday having a higher chance of intensified rain," said HR Biswas, meteorologist at Regional Meteorological Centre Kolkata. According to an IMD bulletin, an upper air cyclonic circulation over north Bangladesh and the neighbourhood is expected to strengthen. Once it happens, the rain intensity and frequency will increase in Kolkata. Some districts, like North 24 Parganas and Nadia, could get some heavy spells, too. Kolkata received scattered showers during the day on Tuesday. The overnight rain on Monday ensured the mercury stayed below the normal mark. These intermittent spells could bring some respite from humidity but may also cause waterlogging in low-lying areas. "While the rainfall so far has been patchy, conditions are becoming favourable for moderate to heavy rain over parts of south Haryana, including Gurgaon. People should be prepared for sudden showers and localised disruptions," said an IMD official. As heavy rainfall activity is expected to pick up later in the week, residents have been advised to take precautions during periods of intense rain. Meanwhile, Delhi continued to experience a humid day with a "feels like" temperature of 44.8 degrees Celsius on Tuesday afternoon. Experts believe that the city will receive only light or very light rain, with the possibility of moderate showers in isolated areas over the next 2-3 days.

Bengaluru: After a lull, southwest monsoon regained momentum over parts of coastal and south-interior Karnataka. India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a forecast of widespread rain till Sunday in Bengaluru and adjoining districts. While rain will be intermittent, cloudy conditions will prevail through the day," said CS Patil, scientist at IMD, Bengaluru.
