Japanese Grand Prix to stay on MotoGP calendar until 2030
The Japanese GP has been a part of the world championship since 1990, with Motegi staging the race since 2004. Media reports said 229,000 spectators attended the event last year over three days, as Francesco Bagnaia won the Grand Prix.
"Japan is important for MotoGP. Motegi always puts on a fantastic show and is a point of reference on the calendar for its event organisation," said Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of MotoGP rights holder Dorna Sports.
The 2025 edition of the Japanese Grand Prix is scheduled for September. - REUTERS

Following the meeting, Zelenskiy had a call with Trump, joined by European allies. "Ukraine will definitely defend its independence. We all need a lasting and reliable peace. Russia must end the war that it itself started," Zelenskiy said on X. Trump, who has signalled frustration with Putin in recent weeks and has given the Russian president until Friday to make peace with Ukraine or face tougher sanctions, hailed Witkoff's visit as highly productive. But a White House official said the secondary sanctions that Trump has threatened against countries doing business with Russia were still expected to be implemented on Friday. An executive order introducing additional 25% tariffs on India for Russian oil imports was signed on Wednesday. "The pressure on (Russia) works. But the main thing is that they do not deceive us in the details – neither us nor the U.S.," Zelenskiy said. Ukraine has repeatedly called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. Russia, which now controls about a fifth of Ukrainian territory and proceeds with its advances on the eastern front, rejected the idea. Pawol, who has umpired in the minors previously, was the first woman to umpire in a Spring Training game for 17 years during a meeting between the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals in 2024. The 48-year-old New Jersey native played college softball and has been a minor league umpire since 2016. The barrier-breaking news comes 10 years after the National Football League hired its first full-time female official, Sarah Thomas, who would go on to become the first woman to officiate a Super Bowl in 2021. The NBA was the first of the "big four" men's professional leagues in North America to add women to its full-time officiating staff, hiring Violet Palmer and Dee Kantner in 1997.
