Bilawal pays tribute to fallen cops
In a message released by the Bilawal House Media Cell, the PPP chairman said that every police martyr is a symbol of courage and a reminder of the heavy price paid for maintaining peace.
Our police martyrs are the silent guardians of our peace, who gave their lives so our people can live without fear," Bilawal said.
He reiterated his party's firm commitment to the welfare of police martyrs' families. "Let us honour their memory with a pledge to build a society worthy of their sacrifices - a society founded on justice, peace, and dignity," he stated.
Memorial Run at Do Darya
To honour the fallen heroes of Sindh Police, a 5-kilometre "Run for Shuhada" was organised at Do Darya, Karachi, under the banner of "Born to Run Pakistan." Nearly a thousand male and female participants took part in the event.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, who was the chief guest, addressed the participants and said the run aimed to raise public awareness about physical fitness, respect for traffic rules, and the rule of law.
He said that every year on August 4, Sindh Police commemorates the sacrifices of its martyrs by meeting with their families and distributing gifts among their children. At the conclusion of the run, cash prizes ranging from Rs100,000 to Rs50,000 were distributed among participants. The event ended with enthusiastic tributes paid to the martyrs of Sindh Police.

12 PTI protestersgranted bail by court
A local court on Tuesday granted bail to 12 workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) who were detained on charges of rioting, stone-pelting, and attacking police during a protest rally in the metropolis on August 5. The judicial magistrate for District East approved the bail pleas filed by defence lawyers and ordered the release of the accused against surety bonds of Rs5,000 each. Earlier, police had produced the accused before the court and sought their physical remand for further interrogation. According to the IO, the PTI workers had blocked the road during a rally led by senior party leaders, including Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Awab Alvi, and Raja Azhar, at Hassan Square. The IO claimed the protest turned violent when the accused pelted stones at law enforcers and attacked them with sticks, injuring a police officer identified as Aijaz. However, the court turned down police's request and granted bail to all 12 accused, who were identified as Nadir, Abdul Rafi, Sarfraz Jameel, Fida Rehman, Nabi Ahmad, Abdul Rashid, Muhammad Ibrahim, Younus Khan, Zar Wali, Muhammad Hanif, Sohail Ahmad Memon, and Adnan. Later, PTI Sindh President Haleem Adil visited the city court to meet the released workers.

Restored MNAs yet to receive pending salaries
Eighteen members of the National Assembly (MNAs), recently reinstated to reserved seats, are now awaiting the release of their salaries accumulated during their year-long suspension. The National Assembly Secretariat is facing uncertainty over whether the reinstated lawmakers are entitled to receive salaries for the period they were de-notified. The secretariat has sought advice from the Finance Department on the matter, and a final decision is expected during the ongoing NA session following approval from the speaker. As of January 2025, the monthly salary for an MNA stands at Rs730,000. If the pending payments are approved, each of the 18 MNAs is expected to receive around Rs7.1 million in arrears. The total disbursement required for all 18 lawmakers amounts to approximately Rs127.8 million. It is worth noting that these members were de-notified on May 13, 2024, following a Supreme Court ruling. However, the apex court reversed its decision on July 2, 2025, and reinstated all 18 lawmakers. Among those restored are 15 women and three minority representatives.

NA passes resolutions against honour killings, digital harassment

The resolution against honour killings, moved by Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) Shahida Rehmani during a National Assembly session chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, strongly condemned so-called honour killings and called for zero tolerance toward such crimes, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported. It also proposed the formation of an interprovincial task force to ensure coordinated efforts to eradicate honour-based violence. The lower house adopted several other resolutions, including one calling for stronger legal frameworks against unauthorised video recording, cyber harassment, and digital defamation.
