Huge Android upgrade will be confirmed by Google at this exact time tomorrow
If you love all things Android, you might want to pop Wednesday, August 20 at 6pm in your diary. That's the exact time and date when Google 's next big event is taking place and it will be all about the fim's new Pixel phones. How do we know that? Well, Google hasn't excatly been super secretive about its upcoming news.
In fact, the US company has already released numerous teasers on its YouTube platform, which confirm that a new Pixel 10 range is on its way. Although full details won't be announced until later tomorrow, Google has even given fans an uncensored glimpse of these latest call makers with the refreshed Pixels getting very similar styling to the current Pixel 9.
That means the phones feature a long camera bump, which stretches across the rear of the device. There's also lashings of metal and glass along with the famous logo embossed into the rear panel.
If Google follows its usual launch cycle, we can expect the Pixel 10 to get a new Tensor processor, better camera, longer battery life and more smart features such as auto image editing and improved search via Gemini.
In addition to launching some standard devices, Google has also teased the release of another new foldable. It's called the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold and will open like a book to reveal a massive display. The design also includes a cover screen and a bunch cameras on the rear case.
Google is no stranger to the foldable market, and the firm is clearly hoping that this latest model will finally help it take on the might of Samsung.

Then go into 'Content & Privacy Restrictions,' toggle it on, and set your 'Content Restrictions' to block explicit content in Safari, music, and any other apps that could be risky." He continued and said for Android users you "open Settings, select Digital Wellbeing & Parental Controls, and set up parental controls there. You can restrict apps and content based on Google Play Store ratings. It's a straightforward way to put strong guardrails in place." The other great benefit of this is that if one "site or app is blocked, your child can't just open a different browser to get around it, as the restrictions apply across the entire device." Why is this so important on holiday? Matthew insists that this is even more important on holiday because kids have "more unsupervised screen time" at the "airport, by the pool" the hotel too. With this setting it means they can still use their devices, but without straying into dangerous territory." The three specific risks that Matthew shares that this setting helps prevent: Firstly, "exposure to inappropriate content. Kids get bored easily on long journeys, and a single wrong click can lead them somewhere you don't want them to be. This filter keeps explicit material out of reach." He continues to his second point that on holiday there are "risky app downloads. When they see other kids playing new games or using new social apps, the temptation is huge. With restrictions on, nothing gets downloaded without your OK." Finally, the "surprise in-app purchases. Extra holiday downtime can lead to more gaming and more opportunities for apps to push purchases. This setting stops those accidental spending sprees in their tracks." Additional holiday safety tips for parents Some more tips from Matthew that he shared is to make sure you connect your devices to a secure Wi-Fi network, and if public Wi-Fi is used then to run it through a VPN to protect your personal data. Setting daily screen time limits for the kids so they experience the holiday in real life rather than through the screen. Aimless browsing can be reduced if you download entertainment from home. Have a discussion with your children about online safety and how to protect themselves from dubious links and to always tell you as parents when something is not right. When wanting to post your holiday, think again to post it at that specific time. "It's best to share them after you've left that location so you're not unintentionally announcing exactly where you are to the world."

Google tweaks Google Play conditions following EU pressure
PARIS, Aug 19 (Reuters) - Alphabet (GOOGL.O), opens new tab unit Google said on Tuesday it will make it easier for app developers to steer customers to channels other than Google after the European Union competition watchdog charged it with breaching EU regulations. In March, Google was hit with two charges of breaching the EU's landmark Digital Markets Act (DMA), which aims to rein in the power of Big Tech. Google has been in the European Commission's crosshairs since early 2024 over whether it restricts app developers from informing users about offers outside its app store Google Play and whether it favours its vertical search services such as Google Flights. Regulators have said Alphabet technically prevents app developers from freely steering consumers to other channels for better offers. They said a service fee charged by the company for facilitating the initial acquisition of a new customer by an app developer via Google Play goes beyond what is justified. In a blog post, Google said that following discussions with the European Commission, developers, and other experts, Google is updating certain terms. "While we still have concerns that these changes could expose Android users to harmful content and make the app experience worse, we're updating our External Offers Program for the EU with revised fees and more options for Android developers, following DMA discussions with the European Commission," EMEA Senior Competition Counsel Clare Kelly said. The company, which has been fined more than 8 billion euros ($9.3 billion) by the EU for various antitrust violations, risks fines of up to 10% of its global annual sales if found guilty of breaching the DMA.
