Nathan Chen said he will not skate at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. The 26-year-old told the Los Angeles Times he is focusing on medical school instead of training for Milano Cortina 2026.
Chen graduated from Yale University last year and is now applying to medical school. He said taking the MCAT felt more nerve-racking than competing at the Olympics. Chen still holds big records in skating and he won the men's gold medal at the Beijing Games in 2022. This choice means he will not defend his Olympic title in February 2026.
Nathan Chen confirms no return for 2026 Winter Olympics, focuses on medical school
Nathan Chen is a top skater who won Olympic gold in Beijing on Feb. 10, 2022. He has three world championship titles and six U.S. national titles. In 2019 he set the world record for a combined score at the Grand Prix Final. Chen told the Times,
'I just want to open doors to kind of see what's the best sort of approach for me.'
He also said he feels satisfied with his skating career and wants to help people as a doctor. Chen has run skating camps with ice dancer Jean-Luc Baker and choreographer Sam Chouinard and has not skated in competition since the Beijing Games and has focused on school and projects.
Ilia Malinin
set to lead Team USA after Nathan Chen steps away from competition
With Nathan Chen stepping back, Ilia Malinin looks like the favorite for the U.S. men's event in Milano Cortina. Ilia Malinin, 20, has landed the quad axel in competition and won the last two world championships.

The 2025 world championships showed Malinin's power and the U.S. also won in women's singles and ice dance with Alysa Liu, Madison Chock and Evan Bates. The 2026 Games run in February 2026 in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, and Team USA will send skaters who hope to win medals.
Coaches, fans and skaters will watch closely as younger skaters try to fill the spot left by Chen. Chen was born in Salt Lake City and trained at rinks there. He has not ruled out a return.

No Indo-Pak javelin showdown as Neeraj Chopra, Arshad Nadeem both withdraw from Silesia Diamond League

The highly anticipated Indo-Pak clash between Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra and Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem failed to take place after Chopra withdrew from the Silesia Diamond League 2025, scheduled on August 16, while Nadeem's name is also absent from the official entry list for the meet in Poland. The two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj and Paris Olympics gold medal winner Nadeem's participation was first announced by the organisers of the Silesia Diamond League event in early July. However, the high-profile face-off was already in doubt after Nadeem underwent surgery on his right calf in London last month. Nadeem's coach, Salman Butt, would then say it was unlikely the Paris Olympics gold medallist would compete in the Diamond League event. 'He (Nadeem) is more focused on preparing for the World Championships in Tokyo in September, which is why he decided to have the surgery on his calf muscle, which had been bothering him for a while now,' coach Salman Butt had said. Now, with Neeraj skipping out of the event with the reasons for his absence still not clear, the Ind-Pak clash ended in a damp squib. Neeraj has had a terrific 2025 athletics season. He began the year with a win at the Potch Invitational in Potchefstroom, South Africa, in April and followed it up with a second-place finish at the Doha Diamond League in May, where he recorded a new national record of 90.23m. Crucially, however, he entered the coveted 90m club. He came second again at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Poland later that month but returned to winning ways at the Paris Diamond League in June with an 88.16m effort. Neeraj also added the Ostrava Golden Spike title to his name, which helped him reclaim the world number 1 rank in men's javelin throw. After that, Neeraj also won the NC Classic in India, an event named after and hosted by him. Both Neeraj and Nadeem are expected to face off at the World Athletics Championships 2025 scheduled in Tokyo, Japan, next month.

Neeraj Chopras name not in entry list of Silesia DL on August 16

New Delhi, Aug 10 (PTI) Star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra's much-anticipated showdown with Pakistan's Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem at the Diamond League Meeting in Silesia, Poland, on August 16 will not take place as the names of the two rivals were missing from the entry list of the event. The reason for Chopra's name not featuring in the entry list is not known. On July 9, the Silesia DL organisers had announced participation of two-time Olympic medallist Chopra and Pakistan's Paris Games gold winner Arshad Nadeem, with the athletics fans anticipating a mouth-watering showdown between the two South Asian rivals. Late last month, Nadeem underwent surgery on his calf muscle in England, raising doubts over his participation and the showdown. The top-class field in Silesia has familiar names in Julian Weber of Germany, Anderson Peters of Grenada, Julius Yego of Kenya and Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago as well as the likes of Dean Roderick Genki of Japan, Andrian Mardare of Moldova and Mrzygold Cyprian of Poland. Even without taking part in Silesia, as well as in the Brussels leg of the Diamond League on August 22, Chopra is likely to qualify for the winner-take-all DL Finals in Zurich on August 28. With 15 points from two DL meetings, from one title and one second place finish, Chopra is at joint top spot with Weber while Anderson and Walcott are joint third with 10 points each. The top six after the Brussels leg will make it to the DL Finals in Zurich. Chopra's last competition was at the NC Classic on July 5 in Bengaluru where he threw 86.18m to win the title of the event he himself hosted. The 27-year-old reigning world champion went past the coveted 90m mark in the Doha DL in May with a throw of 90.23m but finished second behind Weber. He then won the Paris DL title with a throw of 88.16m in June. Chopra will defend the title at the World Championships to be held in Tokyo from September 13-21. Not Shah Rukh Khan, this superstar was first offered Chak De India, but…

In 2007, a sports drama hit theatres that not only won hearts but also rewrote how India saw hockey. Chak De! India told the gritty, emotional journey of a women's hockey team, their struggles, their wins, and the unbreakable bond that made them champions. The movie didn't just score at the box office; it scored in real life, too. Hockey sales in the country shot up by 30% after its release. The film's title track became a national mood booster. From cricket stadiums to Olympic podiums, no celebration of victory felt complete without that song playing in the background. Film inspired from? The story took inspiration from the life of former hockey player Mir Ranjan Negi. In the film, Shah Rukh Khan played the role of a coach trying to redeem his lost pride — a part he agreed to take on almost instantly. The reason? In college, SRK himself had been a hockey player. Authenticity was the heartbeat of the project. The actresses cast as hockey players were put through intense three-to-four-month training camps so that their moves didn't look fake on screen. And the hard work paid off — audiences felt like they were watching a real team, not actors pretending to play. Was Shah Rukh Khan the first choice for the film? Surprisingly, no. According to IMDB, the role was first offered to Salman Khan. Why talks with him didn't work out remains unclear. But fate had other plans — and those plans involved Shah Rukh Khan delivering one of his most powerful performances. The result? Shah Rukh Khan walked away with his seventh Best Actor award, and the film became a cultural landmark. Chak De India's Box Office Collection Produced on a budget of Rs 200 million, Chak De! India stormed the box office, earning a whopping Rs 1.01 billion (US$26.36 million) worldwide. Released on August 10, 2007, it became the third highest-grossing Hindi film of the year, proof that audiences were ready to embrace stories beyond typical Bollywood romance. Even after more than a decade, the movie's impact hasn't faded. It's not just a film, it's a reminder of the magic that happens when sports, storytelling, and the right star come together. And to think, it almost wasn't an SRK film at all.
