
‘Everything's gone': Veteran mechanic mourns loss as Taman Pandan fire destroys workshop, seven other shops and three cars
The workshop owner, who wanted to be known only as Wong, 60, was stunned as he watched his source of livelihood go up in flames in the 5.10 pm fire.
'I left the workshop around 3.30 pm. Not long after, someone called to tell me that the workshop was on fire. By the time I arrived, the flames were already raging. I couldn't save anything,' he told Bernama at the scene, adding that three motorcycles belonging to customers that were undergoing repairs at the workshop were also destroyed.
'Everything's gone. I've been running this workshop for 25 years. I'm truly heartbroken,' he said, adding that he has since contacted the affected customers to inform them of the incident.

Meanwhile, the Johor Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Muhammad Syahhir Ikhwan Mohamad Shoib said five shop lots were 90 per cent destroyed, two others suffered 70 per cent damage, while one unit was 50 per cent damaged, and a Proton Wira and two Proton Sagas were destroyed.
The department received the emergency call at 5.10 pm, and the first fire engine arrived at the scene seven minutes later, he said, adding that 31 firefighters from the Tebrau, Johor Jaya, Kempas, and Larkin Fire and Rescue Stations were involved in the operation, assisted by the Mount Austin and Ulu Tiram volunteer fire brigades.
'The fire broke out in a semi-permanent structure measuring 100 by 50 feet. Our efforts were hampered by low water pressure,' he said, adding that no one was injured. — Bernama

Qantas plane damaged in collision with aerobridge at Sydney Airport
SYDNEY: A Qantas flight from Sydney to Johannesburg has been delayed by almost a full day after being struck by an aerobridge, reported Xinhua. Flight QF63 was at a gate at Sydney Airport preparing for its scheduled 9.30am take-off for Johannesburg on Saturday when an aerobridge made contact with one of the Airbus A380's four engines, causing damage. Passengers, who had already boarded, disembarked via the aircraft's lower deck. There were no reported injuries. Qantas said in a statement that the flight would be delayed by 21 hours, with a replacement aircraft scheduled to depart at 6.45 am on Sunday. The airline said that an investigation into how the aerobridge made contact with the aircraft was underway. Car driven by woman in her 80s crashes into parked vehicles and school fence near Sungai Merah bazaar in Sibu, no injuries reported
SIBU, July 12 — A car driven by an elderly woman in her 80s crashed into a school fence behind a priest's residence near the Sungai Merah bazaar early this morning. The incident, which occurred around 7am, reportedly began when the woman was reversing her vehicle near a coffee shop in the area. According to eyewitnesses, the car suddenly struck a table and several chairs in front of the shop before careening into two motorcycles parked by the roadside. The vehicle then collided with the rear of a four-wheel drive and a Perodua Kancil before coming to a halt after crashing into the fence of a primary school compound behind the priest's house. Fortunately, the driver escaped the incident unhurt. The crash caused minor damage to the fence and the vehicles involved. It was understood that the elderly woman's son later arranged for all the damaged vehicles to be sent to a workshop and had also agreed to cover all the repair costs. — The Borneo Post
