Blazing hot Fire offense out for revenge on Nashville SC
Fresh off a dominant offensive performance, the Chicago Fire bid to exact revenge from an early-season shellacking when they host Nashville SC on Saturday night.
The Fire (7-5-4, 25 points) benefited from Tom Barlow's first career hat trick to post a 7-1 romp over host D.C. United last Saturday.
Making his first start of the season, in place of Belgian striker Hugo Cuypers (lower-body injury), Barlow scored in the 30th, 44th and 65th minutes. The offensive explosion helped Chicago match a club record for goals in a match, set on July 4, 2001, during a 7-0 rout of the then-Kansas City Wizards.
The Fire improved to 6-1-1 across all competitions since the start of May after being on the business end of a 7-2 setback at the hands of Nashville SC on April 26.
"We went to their place and it wasn't a good result for us, and that's something we want to prepare for, especially at home," Barlow said. "I'm focused on getting back to training, getting back to work."
Nashville SC (8-4-5, 29 points) began their eight-match unbeaten streak in MLS play (4-0-4) with the lopsided victory over Chicago. The Music City representatives last competed on May 31, failing to take advantage of Sam Surridge's second brace in three matches and fifth goal in that stretch in a 2-2 draw versus New York City FC.
"The rest will be good," Nashville coach B.J. Callaghan said. "... There's a lot of season left, and we're going to use the time in June to really focus on ourselves and improve ourselves. We have things that need to get cleaned up."
Surridge 's 11 goals lead Nashville SC and are second in MLS only to Philadelphia Union forward Tai Baribo (13). Surridge's 14 goal contributions are tied with Baribo for second best in the league, trailing only Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi (16). Nashville's Hany Mukhtar has seven goals and six assists.
Cuypers leads the Fire with 10 goals on the season.

Brewers honor disgruntled pitcher's trade request by sending him to White Sox after historically bad season
Aaron Civale spent his 30th birthday on Thursday requesting a trade from the Milwaukee Brewers. The right-hander was demoted to the bullpen in favor of Jacob Misiorowski, who dazzled with five no-hit innings in his debut Thursday before leaving with leg cramps. With the move to the bullpen, Civale officially asked to be dealt. Ironically, the Brewers wished Civale a happy birthday on social media. The Brewers honored Civale's request on Friday, but in grueling fashion. Civale is now headed to the Chicago White Sox, who less than nine months ago set the modern-era MLB record (since 1901) for the most losses in a single season. Chicago went 41-121 last season, just three years removed from winning 91 games and making the American League Division Series. They finished 51.0 games back of the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the division. Thankfully, and amazingly for them, it does not look like the record will stand for much longer. The Colorado Rockies are 13-55 (.191 winning percentage) and are on pace to finish 30-142, 11 games worse than Chicago. However, the White Sox still remain a laughingstock. They currently have twice as many losses (46) as they do victories (23) and are on pace for just 54 wins this season. In return, Milwaukee got Andrew Vaughn, who was once a highly-touted prospect. He was the third overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft but has never lived up to the billing. His lifetime wins above replacement is -0.4, and this season, he is hitting a career-worst .189. Civale's career started with the Cleveland Guardians organization, and in his five seasons there, he owned a 3.77 ERA. He was traded to Milwaukee from Tampa Bay last year, but in just five starts this season, he has put up an ERA of 4.91. Milwaukee sits 5.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs for the NL Central crown. Aaron Civale heading to White Sox after requesting trade from Brewers: Source
Veteran starting pitcher Aaron Civale is being sent to the Chicago White Sox in a trade, a league source confirmed Friday, one day after The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon reported that Civale had requested a trade from the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers will get first baseman Andrew Vaughn in exchange. Advertisement Civale, who turned 30 on Thursday, asked to be traded after the Brewers bumped him from the rotation in favor of top pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski. The 23-year-old debuted Thursday, going five innings without giving up a hit before departing in the sixth with cramping in his right calf and quad. Civale has exclusively started during his professional career, save for three scoreless innings in relief to close out an 8-4 defeat in Game 1 of last year's wild-card series against the New York Mets. He owns a 4.06 ERA and is 40-37 across 122 major-league starts. 'I feel like I still have more to contribute and more to give to this game and I feel I'm best suited to do that as a starting pitcher,' Civale said when asked about his playing situation by reporters in Milwaukee on Thursday. 'I've worked very hard to get to this position. There's no ill will to anybody.' Aaron Civale: 'We're exploring opportunities for me to get back in a rotation, whether that's here or elsewhere.' He explains his point of view here: — Adam McCalvy (@AdamMcCalvy) June 12, 2025 The Brewers acquired Civale from the Tampa Bay Rays last July in a trade for minor-league infielder Gregory Barrios. Civale pitched well in 14 starts after joining Milwaukee, going 6-3 with a 3.53 ERA. Civale strained his left hamstring in his first outing of 2025, then produced a 3.32 ERA over 19 innings in four starts upon returning on May 22. Civale leaves a 37-33 Brewers squad that is 5 1/2 games out of first place in the NL Central and 2 1/2 games behind in the wild-card race for a fifth-place White Sox team languishing at the bottom of the American League standings for a second consecutive season. Vaughn, 27, was the White Sox's first-round draft pick in 2019 but hasn't quite met the hype. He has played regularly for Chicago since debuting in 2021, accruing 2,451 plate appearances in 610 games. But he's produced at a below-average level, with a .248/.303/.407 line and 77 homers and 293 RBIs. He was demoted to Triple A on May 23 after hitting .189 with a .531 OPS in 48 games this season. Karel Geraerts tops Reims' shortlist for new head coach
According to a report from L'Équipe, Karel Geraerts tops Stade de Reims's shortlist for their new head coach following the departure of Samba Diawara. The Champagne club reportedly interviewed Geraerts and were convinced by the Belgian's profile. However, Geraerts, a free agent since September, after he was sacked from Schalke 04, has not yet given Reims a definitive answer. The club are faced with certain issues that could detract from the attractiveness of the role; they will likely have to sell this summer, while the budget will also be tightened after suffering a relegation to Ligue 2 via the playoffs. Advertisement Reims had been linked with Philippe Montanier, who has not had a head coaching role since leaving Toulouse FC in 2023 after leading the club to their first-ever Coupe de France title. However, Mohamed Toubache-Ter reported that conversations had cooled between the two parties. L'Équipe points to Olivier Dall'Oglio as another option if Geraerts cannot be convinced. He had led AS Saint-Étienne to promotion in the 2023/24 season, but was sacked in the past campaign following a poor set of results. GFFN | Nick Hartland
