Analyst has a shocking plan for India to crush 50% tariffs
Analyst has a shocking plan for India to crush 50% tariffs originally appeared on TheStreet. On Aug. 6, President Donald Trump took the global tariff war to another height as he hiked tariffs on India to 50% for buying oil from Russia despite the war in Ukraine. While the decision left the global crypto community fuming due to concerns over the market, the reaction from the Indian crypto community was even more severe. Kashif Raza, a prominent crypto voice in India, suggested the country take a crypto-centric approach to solve the tariff conundrum. Ethereum is the right way for India to answer Donald Trump, Raza argued. According to Raza, India's renowned IT companies will be worst hit by these tariffs. In fact, two of the leading IT firms of the country generated $26 billion in annual revenue from the U.S., he claimed. In response, India can contain the loss by betting on Ethereum. One of the ways could be staking ETH, he said. Staking refers to the process of locking up your crypto assets like ETH to help secure a proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain network and earn yields in ETH staking offers 4%-4.5% yields, India can stake $577 billion worth of ETH to earn $26 billion in yields, he added. But how will the country accumulate such a large amount of Ethereum for staking purposes? Raza points toward the country's massive gold reserve worth $84.5 billion, which he asks to be converted into ETH for staking. At the current ETH price of around $3,650, India can exchange its gold reserve for more than 23 million ETH tokens. When Aditya Singh, another popular community voice, said only Bitcoin is the way, Raza highlighted a recent directive in the U.S. that encourages liquid staking. If U.S. corporations can earn billions by ETH staking, India shouldn't be left behind, he added. Galaxy Digital Slips 8% Post-Earnings as Investors Take Profits Following Big Run Higher
A modestly hot name since obtaining a U.S. listing on the Nasdaq a few months back, Galaxy Digital (GLXY) is seeing some selling after posting second quarter earnings on Tuesday morning. Global Markets revenue rose 28% quarter-over-quarter to $55.4 million despite a 22% decline in trading volumes, as Galaxy outperformed broader market trends, said brokerage KBW. The firm's average loan book grew to $1.1 billion versus peer Coinbase's (COIN) hitting $879 million. Assets on Galaxy's platform rose 27% to $8.9 billion, though adjusted gross profit in asset management fell 26% due to lower on-chain activity. As expected, CoreWeave also exercised its final option to access an additional 133MW of compute at Helios, bringing the site's total committed capacity to 800MW, the report said. Galaxy separately agreed to acquire 160 acres of adjacent land, including a 1GW interconnection request, potentially expanding Helios' capacity to 3.5GW. The firm ended the quarter with $2.5 billion in total liquidity, including $1.1 billion in cash and stablecoins, and $1.3 billion in net digital assets. Corporate debt stood at $1.1 billion. The company's digital asset holdings as of June 30 include 17,102 bitcoin valued at $1.8 billion versus 13,704 bitcoin valued at $1.3 billion six months earlier. The third quarter is off to a strong start, said KBW, with record activity in July as Galaxy helped facilitate the sale of over 80,000 bitcoin and secured the final tranche of AI/HPC compute capacity at its Helios data center through a deal with CoreWeave (CRWV). Shares are lower by 8% Tuesday alongside a selloff in crypto prices, with bitcoin shedding more than 1% to $113,000. The stock remains higher by 13% since listing on Nasdaq in May.

Ethereum Treasury SharpLink Adds $265 Million in ETH to Holdings
Ethereum treasury SharpLink Gaming bought $264.5 million in Ethereum last week, the Nasdaq-listed company announced on Tuesday. The Minneapolis, Minnesota-based firm's holdings have grown to 521,939 of the digital coins now worth nearly $1.9 billion after it bought 83,561 ETH between July 28 to August 3, it said. Publicly traded SharpLink (SBET) was trading less than 1% higher on Tuesday at nearly $19. SharpLink's stock has shot up by over 420% since the end of May, when it was trading for less than $4 per share. SharpLink could not be reached for comment. SharpLink, which pivoted its focus from marketing, first announced it had raised $425 million to establish an Ethereum treasury in May. Since then, it has bought more digital coins as the price of the second biggest cryptocurrency by market value has risen. In July alone, SharpLink spent $780 million on ETH. ETH was recently trading at nearly $3,631 per coin, according to crypto data provider CoinGecko, down 0.4% over the past 24 hours. The coin is about 34% below its all-time high of $4,878 that it hit in 2021. Still, the coin has rallied by over 44% over a 30-day period as American investors piled into ETH exchange-traded funds. Those funds have generated more than $9.5 billion in net inflows since their debut last year, according to U.K. asset manager Farside Investors. Other publicly traded companies have also been building Ethereum treasuries with Peter Thield-backed Bitcoin miner BitMine Immersion snapping up 833,000 ETH worth over $3 billion. Ethereum treasuries are following a model pioneered by Strategy—formerly MicroStrategy—which shifted from software development to buying Bitcoin in 2020 after years of struggling and low share prices. Strategy now holds 628,791 BTC worth over $72 billion. Litecoin Hits Five-Month High Amid ETF Optimism and $100M MEI Pharma Treasury Other Nasdaq-listed companies have followed suit—albeit mostly smaller, lesser-known entities—by buying not only Bitcoin and Ethereum but altcoins like Solana and XRP. Typically, these companies have achieved at least short-term stock price gains, sometimes with massive spikes.
