Mumbai: LT Marg police arrested a sales executive Dilip Sampatraj Jain (44) and his brother Vikram Sampatraj Jain (44), for allegedly misappropriating 3.5 kg of gold jewellery worth Rs 3 crore belonging to his employer, a wholesale mangalsutra trader in Kalbadevi.
They were produced before court and was remanded to police custody. The complaint involves allegations of systematic fraud between April 2024 and March 2025.
According to the complaint, the victim, who operates "Shri Ambika Gold," employed Dilip as a salesman to supply mangalsutras to traders in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The accused would regularly travel with jewellery stock, sell to traders, and return payments in cash or bank transfers.
An audit in March 2025 revealed a shortage of over 3 kg of jewellery. When confronted, Dilip allegedly claimed the items were sold and bills would be issued after April 1.
Enquiries with traders revealed no such transactions. Investigations indicate Dilip misappropriated the stock, transferred large sums to Vikram's account.
Police seized 1.5 kg of 18-karat gold during the probe. Investigators allege the brothers diverted business funds for personal gains.

Thane MACT awards Rs 20.49 lakh to family of pedestrian killed in 2013 accident

THANE: The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) in Thane has directed the owner of a container truck and its insurer to pay Rs 20.49 lakh as compensation to the family of a 35-year-old labourer who died after being run over in Bhiwandi in December 2013. Presiding officer R.V Mohite held that the accident occurred due to the rash and negligent driving of the container by its driver. According to the petition, on the night of December 8, 2013, the labourer was walking along the left side of the road near Oswal Tower, Anjur Phata, when the speeding container veered onto the side road and hit him. The vehicle's tyre ran over his leg, causing grievous injuries. He was rushed to Sion Hospital but succumbed to his injuries on December 14. The Narpoli police registered a case of rash driving and causing death by negligence against the driver. The tribunal rejected the defence that the vehicle and driver were falsely implicated, noting documentary evidence including salary vouchers and emails linking the driver to the vehicle at the time. Assessing his monthly income at Rs 9,000 and applying the multiplier method as per Supreme Court guidelines, the tribunal calculated the loss of future earnings at Rs 12.96 lakh, with an additional Rs 5.18 lakh towards future prospects. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mystical Forest Vase: Hot Sale topgadgetlife Shop Now Undo It also awarded amounts under heads such as loss of consortium, loss of estate, funeral expenses, and love and affection. Clicked Link To Order Milk, Lost Rs 18.5 Lakh: Mumbai Woman Duped In Cyber Fraud

Investigators believe the fraudster gained remote access to the woman's phone once she clicked on the malicious link A 71-year-old woman in Mumbai was allegedly duped of Rs 18.5 lakh from her bank accounts while trying to place an online order for a litre of milk, police said on Saturday. The woman, a resident of Wadala, reportedly lost her entire savings within two days earlier this month after falling victim to an online fraud, an officer said. According to the complaint, on August 4, she received a call from a man who introduced himself as 'Deepak," claiming to be an executive of a milk company. He sent her a link on her phone and instructed her to fill in her details to complete the order. 'She was asked to click on the link while staying on the call and follow instructions. The call lasted for over an hour before she hung up," the official said. The following day, the same caller allegedly contacted her again and extracted additional information. Days later, during a visit to her bank, the woman discovered that Rs 1.7 lakh had been withdrawn from one of her accounts. On checking her other two accounts, she found they too had been wiped out. In total, Rs 18.5 lakh was siphoned off. Investigators believe the fraudster gained remote access to the woman's phone once she clicked on the malicious link. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway, the police said. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Encounter in Chhattisgarh: Security forces foil Maoists' ambush in Bastar; arms seized

RAIPUR: A late-night gun battle broke out between Maoists and security forces in Kondagaon district in Bastar division on Friday with an exchange of fire lasting for several minutes that left a villager injured. The condition of the village was stated to be stable and he was receiving treatment at a hospital. Security forces have recovered country-made weapons, Maoist uniforms and literature from the site of the encounter. According to Kondagaon SP Y Akshay Kumar, the encounter took place at Kohkameta village forest in Keshkal. There were specific inputs about the presence of Maoists in the Kanhargaon area and acting on the input, SP directed a joint anti-Maoist operation involving security personnel from Bastar Fighters, District Reserve Guard, and CRPF. Around late night, the security forces came under heavy fire from 10–12 armed Maoists who had laid an ambush. The insurgents, equipped with sophisticated automatic weapons, opened indiscriminate fire with the intent to loot weapons and inflict casualties on the security personnel, said officials. The joint team retaliated, leading to Maoists retreating into forests taking cover of dense trees and darkness. Police said that a villager who was in the nearby region inadvertently came under cross- firing and suffered a bullet injury. He was evacuated and rushed to a local hospital and later referred to Kondagaon district hospital. During a subsequent search of the encounter site, forces recovered two country-made firearms, Maoist uniforms, propaganda literature, bags and medicines. These items, officials said, indicate that the Maoists had been camping in the area and were preparing for an attack. SP Kumar said security forces have intensified the search operation in the forests of Kohkameta and Nalajhar. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
