Delhi Govt To Introduce Skill-based Subjects In 257 Schools

News186 days ago

According to the circular, students in classes 9 and 11 can now enroll in various skill subjects, with each school expected to accommodate up to 50 students per subject.
The Directorate of Education has approved the introduction of Skill/NSQF subjects in 257 more government schools in Delhi starting this academic session, officials announced. This initiative aims to boost vocational education throughout schools, as reported by PTI.
These subjects, part of the Samagra Shiksha scheme, are intended to provide students with practical knowledge and job-ready skills alongside their regular studies, according to a circular issued on May 23.
According to the circular, students in classes 9 and 11 can now enroll in various skill subjects, with each school expected to accommodate up to 50 students per subject. Schools are also advised to conduct counseling sessions to help students understand the career opportunities available through these vocational subjects. Newly enrolled Class 11 students can opt for these subjects even if they haven't studied them in Classes 9 or 10.
'This initiative is part of a flexible, multi-entry and multi-exit policy to make skill education more accessible," the circular stated. It also noted that taking skill subjects is optional, not mandatory.

'Schools may offer the option, but it is not required for every student to enroll in a skill subject," it added.
According to CBSE guidelines, schools do not need separate approval to introduce additional skill subjects. They just need to update the relevant details on the CBSE portal, as mentioned in the circular.
The National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) subjects include practical courses such as Information Technology, Retail, Healthcare, and Beauty and Wellness, aimed at enhancing students' employability and career readiness.

Meanwhile, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a policy that allows students who fail in one main subject in Class 10 to still pass the board exams, without taking a compartment exam, by replacing the failed subject with a passed skill-based subject.
The new curriculum framework from CBSE formally recognises the sixth subject, typically a skill subject, as a potential substitute for a failed core subject – provided the student has passed the skill subject. This means that a student who fails in Mathematics, Science, or Social Science but clears, for instance, Computer Applications or Artificial Intelligence, will be deemed to have passed the Class 10 board exams.

'The Union Government has approved an additional instalment of Rs 81,735 crore as Tax Devolution to the State Governments, which will be released on June 2, 2025,' the finance ministry said in a statement. This release is in addition to the regular monthly instalment of tax devolution of Rs 81,735 crore, which will be released on June 10, 2025. New Delhi, May 30 (PTI) The government on Friday approved an additional instalment of Rs 81,735 crore as tax devolution to states, which will be released on June 2. The additional instalment of devolution to states is in line with the principle of cooperative federalism and the aim of becoming 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047, it added. Focus on connection with citizens: PM Modi to babus

File photo: PM Modi (Picture credit: PTI) NEW DELHI: In a span of just a month, PM Narendra Modi has twice taken top central government bureaucrats and state chief secretaries by surprise by flagging public grievances that had reached him directly, reports Dipak Dash. On April 30, secretaries and chief secretaries attending a meeting under Pragati - the performance audit PM holds periodically - were surprised when Modi raised shortcomings in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, a scheme to reach piped water to all households. On Wednesday, he again left them amazed when, during a review of the functioning of real estate regulators, he shared feedback that files in RERA offices don't move unless "vyavastha", a popular Hindu euphemism for pleasing the authorities, has been made. Senior officials said the two meetings, apart from providing a peek into the PM's continuing connect with the grassroots, were also symbolic of the government's decision to focus on problems which are holding up last-mile delivery of well-intentioned schemes. This also helps explain, sources said, why the 11th anniversary of the Modi govt passed without large-scale events or publicity campaigns.

IFB Agro to acquire Cargill India's shrimp and fish feed biz

Last Updated: Kolkata, May 30 (PTI) IFB Agro Industries Ltd on Friday said its board has approved a proposal to acquire the entire commercial shrimp and freshwater fish feed business of Cargill India, marking a strategic move to consolidate its aqua feed operations. The acquisition – on a slump sale basis – includes Cargill India's manufacturing facilities at Vijayawada and Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh, along with feed formulations, assets, business contracts, liabilities, licenses, employees, and other associated resources, the company said in a regulatory filing. The transaction, subject to the execution of a definitive Business Transfer Agreement (BTA), is expected to be completed by July 31, 2025. The consideration will be paid in cash, though the specific value will be disclosed in the final agreement, IFB said. The move aligns with IFB Agro's strategy to grow its presence in the aqua feed segment, the company said. Cargill India, incorporated in 1996, is a major player in the Indian animal nutrition sector and also operates in grain, oilseed and the food ingredient market. PTI BSM RBT
