Braves activate third baseman Austin Riley from injured list
Riley hadn't played since straining an abdominal muscle while making a throw on July 11 against St. Louis.
The 28-year-old was hitting .274 with 14 home runs and 48 RBIs at the time of the injury. The two-time All-Star's return comes with Atlanta fading as the trade deadline approaches.
The Braves entered Friday 10 games out of the last wild-card spot in the National League and were 3-5 during Riley's absence.
To make room for Riley on the 26-man roster, Atlanta optioned infielder Nacho Alvarez Jr. to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Major League Baseball will soon see one of its highest-attended games ever on August 2. MLB announced that the Speedway Classic, featuring the Atlanta Braves vs. the Cincinnati Reds, at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee, has already sold over 85,000 tickets. The game is set to surpass the previous regular-season game attendance record of 84,587, established on Sept. 12, 1954, when Cleveland Stadium hosted the New York Yankees. August 2 will not only feature the game, but also concerts headlined by Jake Owen, Tim McGraw, and Pitbull. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Ronald Acuña Jr., Marcell Ozuna and Austin Riley homered as the Atlanta Braves snapped a five-game losing streak with a 10-7 victory over the Kansas City Royals, who equaled a club record by walking 14 batters Monday night. It was the fourth time the Royals walked 14 and the first since 2006.
