Netball tournament to raise money for Pembrokeshire charity
The Mixed Fast5 Netball Tournament, sponsored by Specsavers Haverfordwest, will support Homeless Pembrokeshire through the 2025 event with a £400 donation covering venue costs at Pembrokeshire Sports Village.
This sponsorship ensures all funds raised go directly to the charity, which relies on community donations to provide crisis support, advice, and emergency packs for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Wayne Jones, retail director at Specsavers Haverfordwest, said: "As a locally owned and run business, we're committed to supporting our community and Homeless Pembrokeshire is a charity that continues to make a real difference.
"We're proud to be involved in an event that brings people together while raising awareness of a challenge affecting more people in our community than many realise."
Last year's tournament raised more than £1,000 for Morgan's Army Children's Cancer Charity and was organised by Caroline Ross, the store's locum optometrist.
Mrs Ross said: "This tournament is about more than sport.
"It's a way to raise awareness of homelessness in our community and, thanks to the backing of local businesses like Specsavers Haverfordwest, raise vital funds for a charity providing frontline support.
"Fast5 netball is fast-paced, exciting and a great watch, so we're encouraging everyone to come along, enjoy the action and cheer on the teams.
"It's an opportunity for the whole community to rally behind our chosen charity and discover a fun twist to traditional netball."
The tournament will take place on Saturday, June 28, from 1pm to 5pm, with 10 teams competing in high-energy matches.
A raffle and other fundraising activities will also be held on the day.

Bridgend Firm Sponsors Welsh Internationals
Bridgend-based Powerhouse Energy Group is supporting Wales' Over 35 Women's Masters Hockey Team as they compete this summer at the European Championship in Valencia (June), and the Home Nations tournament in Glasgow (August). Paul Emmitt, Chief Executive Officer, Powerhouse Energy Group has committed to awarding and covering the cost of the Welsh Caps and certificates for each of the 36 players representing Wales this summer. Player Kat Kisby, who lives in Cardiff, said: 'On behalf of the team, we're incredibly thankful to sponsors like Powerhouse. Competing at this level is entirely self-funded, which is common in amateur sports—even at the national level—so the financial burden on players is significant. Any support we receive goes a long way in helping us concentrate on our performance. We've been training intensively over the past six months, and we're excited to compete and hopefully come back with some big wins under our belt.' Powerhouse Energy Group is located on Brackla Industrial Estate, Bridgend and utilises unrecyclable plastic by converting the unrecyclable waste efficiently and economically into synthetic gas for future use. Paul said: 'We're thrilled to be able to support a passionate and ambitious team looking to compete at the highest level. We wish the players the very best of luck and I'm looking forward to presenting their well-deserved Welsh caps later this year in recognition of their achievements.'

Maddy Cusack's ex-boss slams 'one-sided' witness list at inquest preparation
Former Sheffield United manager at centre of investigation in death of Maddy Cusack has claimed list of witnesses has been "manipulated" to side with family of ex-footballer Maddy Cusack's former manager has made an extraordinary accusation that a witness list for the coroner's investigation into the ex-Sheffield United player's death has been "manipulated" to side against him. Jonathan Morgan, speaking via video link at a pre-inquest hearing at Chesterfield coroner's court on Tuesday, claimed that the witnesses are "one sided" towards Ms Cusack's family, who allege that her relationship with the coach had affected her mental health. The footballer was found dead at her parents' home in September 2023, aged 27. "From day one, everyone that's been interviewed or spoken to has been one sided, with the family. It's only fair for me to put forward witnesses in that environment to refute and challenge the credibility of some of these witnesses," he said. Morgan, who was sacked by Sheffield United after they learnt he had a relationship with a player at a previous club, added: "There's been a manipulation of information over the past 18 months." Written evidence was also read out during the pre-inquest hearing, including from former team-mates of Ms Cusack. Goalkeeper Fran Kitching told investigators that during one game Morgan said to Ms Cusack: 'You've always been a ******* fruitcake, Maddy.' Kithcing added that 'this type of abuse was not uncommon for Jonathan Morgan.' Another player, Nat Johnson, claimed in a statement that during another game Morgan shouted at Cusack: "Still a pyscho then, Maddy." Morgan strenuously denies making those comments. An enquiry commissioned by Sheffield United and carried out by former superintendent Dennis Shotton said there was no evidence of wrongdoing. But the Football Association have also been investigating Ms Cusack's death with 45 witnesses interviewed. An update is expected later in 2025. Dean Armstrong KC, representing Ms Cusack's family, said they want the inquest to be heard by a jury and that it would focus on Morgan's "bullying behaviour." He added: "There was then and there continues to be a significant difference between the men's game and the women's game in terms of resource but also in terms of how people are dealt with. "There is that significant public interest in looking at how people conduct themselves within the women's game and what the support network is for those vulnerable females such as Maddy."
