BRS demands putting-off Miss World pageant in war-like scenario in border areas
HYDERABAD
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has demanded that the State government cancel or postpone the Miss World Pageant being held in the city immediately, when people are worried about the possible increase in the prices of essential commodities following the war-like situation with neighbouring Pakistan and closures of airports and ports.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, BRS MLA and party Whip in the Assembly K.P. Vivekanand felt that it was the responsibility of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to allay any such apprehensions and fears among people instead of being busy with organising the beauty contest. He also faulted the statement of the Chief Secretary that holding the beauty pageant would be crucial for the State's economy.
Students from the State studying in the national educational institutions in Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir were willing to return home in the wake of escalation of security threat following the attempts of shelling, drone and missile attacks by Pakistan and it was for the Chief Minister to make arrangements for their safe return to the State.
Stating that BRS was not against the idea of the beauty pageants but they should be conducted in a cheerful atmosphere and not the war-like situation which the country was in right now following the terror attack on tourists in J&K and continuous artillery and other attacks by Pakistan in the border areas starting from J&K to Gujarat.
Only emergency services and not beauty contests must go on in war-like situations, Mr. Vivekanand said. Expressing solidarity with the armed forces for putting up a heroic fight to protect the country, he also paid tributes to Murali Naik who was martyred in the Pakistan shelling along the border.
Meanwhile, Mr. Vivekanand along with former ministers T. Harish Rao and C. Malla Reddy participated in a rally organised in the Malla Reddy Health City here expressing solidarity with the armed forces.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday said the Delhi government will set up 7,000 smart classrooms in its schools by the end of the year. She added that 175 digital libraries and 100 A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday said the Delhi government will set up 7,000 smart classrooms in its schools by the end of the year. She added that 175 digital libraries and 100 A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Language Labs offering foreign language instruction in English, French, and German will also be made operational in the Delhi government-run schools. The CM made the announcements following a meeting she chaired with the principals of Delhi government schools in her Assembly constituency of Shalimar Bagh. 'Intimidating parents' In a social media post later in the day, she spoke about the 'alarming reports of schools employing bouncers to intimidate parents and students'. 'Education is a right, not a business. Our children deserve compassion, not coercion. Schools must remain spaces of learning, values, and nation-building,' the CM said. Her comments come a day after the Delhi High Court expressed dismay at the 'reprehensible practice' by Delhi Public School, Dwarka, of allegedly hiring bouncers to block the entry of the students who had not paid the increased fee. Ms. Gupta hit out at the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for engaging in 'propaganda about improving education' while 'failing to provide' basic education infrastructure despite being in power for 11 years, citing the state of a government school in her constituency's Haiderpur village. 'The area neither has an English-medium school nor a higher secondary school where science is taught,' she said. The CM added, 'Their much-celebrated school buildings were structurally weak — one built in 2018 deteriorated within just two years. This exposes their 'education model' and shows that it was merely a facade.' She said that many government schools lack proper sports grounds, face hygiene and security issues, and suffer from acute staff shortages. 'Ad hoc hirings' 'Many still do not have full-time principals and are run on ad hoc arrangements,' said Ms. Gupta. 'We are ensuring recruitment for all vacant positions, appointment of permanent principals, and deployment of adequate security and sanitation employees in our schools,' said the CM. She also criticised the Delhi Board of School Education, which was started by the previous AAP government, saying, 'This parallel board could pose issues for students seeking college admissions and may affect the recognition of their certificates in India and abroad. Such decisions [to create a new board] endanger the future of our children.' Ms. Gupta also inaugurated a water cooler at a school in Shalimar Bagh and said that plans are being made to instal such machines in all the nearly 1,000 schools run by the Delhi government as well as in other parts of the city. AAP did not issue any response to the allegations levelled by the CM.

Teachers demand breakfast, snacks for students in all govt schools
Hyderabad: As the new academic year begins, govt school teachers have urged the state govt to provide breakfast and snacks in addition to the mid-day meal for all students in state-run schools. They pointed out that the previous BRS govt had introduced a breakfast scheme in one school per mandal during the end of their term, but it was discontinued after the new govt took charge. "Currently, no school is serving breakfast. The state govt must urgently address this and ensure that all children receive breakfast, snacks along with a nutritious and well-balanced lunch," said Chava Ravi, general secretary of the Telangana State United Teachers Federation. Teachers also demanded that every primary school should have one teacher per class, regardless of student strength. At present, schools with 11 to 60 students are allotted two teachers, while those with 60 to 90 students get three teachers for classes 1 to 5. They further called for the introduction of pre-primary classes in all govt schools to boost enrolment. Other long-standing demands include addressing the needs of staff in KGBVs, model schools, and gurukuls, and clearing pending bills. Cong committed to completing Palamuru-Rangareddy project: Bhatti
1 2 Hyderabad: Deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday said the Congress govt will complete the long-delayed Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme to turn barren lands fertile. Speaking at a public meeting in Devarakadra after laying foundation stones for 12 new power sub-stations in Mahbubnagar district, Bhatti slammed the previous BRS regime. "Not a drop of water flowed from their irrigation projects. They looted in the name of development and now act like saviours. Even their own family members are exposing them," he said. He assured that funds for relief, rehabilitation, and land acquisition would be released immediately. "We inherited a ₹8 lakh crore debt, yet we're fixing the economy, increasing revenues, and ensuring they reach the poor through welfare schemes," he added. On the power front, Bhatti said Telangana has met record-high demand and is preparing for a projected 33,775 MW requirement by 2035, with plans for solar, green energy, and thermal projects already underway.
