Lamine Yamal Scores Stunner in Barcelona's LaLiga Opener Win Over Mallorca
LaLiga Lamine Yamal Scores Stunner in Barcelona's LaLiga Opener Win Over Mallorca Published Aug. 16, 2025 5:09 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link Barcelona began the defense of its La Liga title with a comfortable 3-0 win at Mallorca, scoring early and taking advantage of two first-half red cards for the hosts on Saturday. Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, who led Barcelona's prolific attack last season, needed only seven minutes to impress again. Yamal's curling cross found Raphinha by the far post and the Brazil forward headed in from close range. Ferran Torres' shot from outside the area in the 23rd was a goal that drew complaints by Mallorca because one of its players was on the ground after being hit by the ball in the head in the buildup. ADVERTISEMENT Some Mallorca players stopped playing after their teammate went down, but the referee allowed play to continue. Mallorca immediately complained after Ferran scored. The hosts went a man down 10 minutes later when Manu Morlanes was sent off for a second yellow card for fouling Yamal on the run. His first yellow was for protesting Barcelona's second goal. The second red card in the 39th came from Mallorca striker Vedat Muriqi hitting the head of Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia with his left foot while reaching up for a high ball. The referee changed the card from yellow to red after a video review. Yamal made it 3-0 in second half stoppage time by hitting the top corner. Barcelona, which won the league last season after scoring 102 goals, was without veteran striker Robert Lewandowski because of an injury. Newly signed forward Marcus Rashford went in as a substitute in the 69th. Garcia didn't have to work much on his Barcelona debut after being signed in the offseason on a transfer from city rival Espanyol. Regular starting goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is out after undergoing lower back surgery, and García started ahead of Wojciech Szczesny and Inaki Pena, who replaced Ter Stegen last season. K.J. Henry Lifts Dillon Gabriel-led Browns to Preseason Win vs. Eagles
National Football League K.J. Henry Lifts Dillon Gabriel-led Browns to Preseason Win vs. Eagles Published Aug. 16, 2025 4:44 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link The Cleveland Browns had to turn to other quarterbacks with rookie Shedeur Sanders injured. The decisive touchdown came on defense instead of from relief quarterbacks. K.J. Henry returned an interception 45 yards for a score in the third quarter to send the Browns to a 22-13 preseason win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday. In a game missing almost all regular-season starters on both sides — Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley sat out for the defending Super Bowl champions while Myles Garrett and Jerry Jeudy rested for the Browns — the Eagles got a better look at their draft picks fighting for playing time. Andrew Mukuba returned an interception 75 yards for a score and recovered a fumble, and Jihaad Campbell had a sack, an impressive showing for the Eagles' top two 2025 draft picks. Maybe somewhere actor Matthew McConaughey was impressed. McConaughey, a Texas Longhorns superfan, had a social media post in support of Mukuba when the safety was drafted out of Texas in the second round. ADVERTISEMENT Mukuba missed time early in training camp with a shoulder injury and returned only in the last few days to take first-team reps. He was in the right spot to pick off a pass from Dillon Gabriel. Mukuba took it all the way for the 75-yard score and a 7-6 lead. He added a fumble recovery later and broke up a pass in the second half, the kind of plays needed to close the gap in his competition with Sydney Brown for the starting spot. Campbell, a linebacker out of Alabama selected 31st overall, sacked Gabriel on the second play of the game. The Eagles just may have found two more defensive gems to make meaningful contributions in their pursuit of another title. The Eagles and Browns both played it safe with their starters after the two teams held a pair of joint practices earlier in the week. Sanders hurt his oblique in the first practice and did not play Saturday. The Browns started Gabriel, a third-round pick who worked his way back into the lineup after he had been sidelined with an injured hamstring. Gabriel was 13 of 18 passing for 143 yards and the pick-6. Tyler "Snoop" Huntley played in the second half and was 10 of 13 for 71 yards. Dorian Thompson-Robinson threw a pick-6 to Henry that gave Cleveland a 19-13 lead in the third. Thompson-Robinson was replaced by Kyle McCord, another 2025 draft pick, in the next series. McCord, who is from nearby Mount Laurel, New Jersey, and was raised as an Eagles fan, threw a touchdown pass and threw for 47 yards overall. The Eagles had just 88 total yards. Ahmani Marshall rushed for a 4-yard touchdown on the opening drive of the game. (Photo) Sanders out Sanders, who covered his head with a towel as he watched from the sideline, didn't play after he sustained an oblique injury during drills ahead of practice Wednesday. The Browns said he is day to day. Sanders completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards with two first-half touchdown passes to Kaden Davis in his NFL preseason debut in a win in the opener over Carolina. The 40-year-old Joe Flacco, in the mix to start the season opener, also sat out. And Kenny Pickett didn't play as he recovers from a hamstring injury. High snap Yes, Thompson-Robinson threw the pick-6, but he wasn't helped by a high snap from Brett Toth. Toth played at center and Drew Kendall was at left guard as the Eagles tried to get by without the injured Landon Dickerson. Dickerson has been sidelined since he suffered a right knee injury at an open practice. The Eagles have not given a timeline for his absence or ruled him out for the season opener. Up next The Browns host the Rams on Saturday. The Eagles play Friday at the Jets. Reporting by The Associated Press. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Dolphins vs. Lions live updates: Score, highlights from preseason game
The Miami Dolphins will be back on the field Saturday for a preseason game against the Detroit Lions, although it's unlikely starters from either team will play much. Dolphins and Lions players already got plenty of reps against each other earlier this week when the two teams met for joint practices on Wednesday and Thursday. While the first of those sessions was a lopsided domination by Detroit, the second joint practice was much more even. On Saturday, it'll be the backups in the spotlight with an opportunity for them to show they deserve a higher spot on the depth chart. For some, it'll be a chance to show they're worthy of a place on the 53-man roster. Watch Dolphins vs. Lions on Fubo (free trial) Dolphins 24, Lions 17 - Final The Dolphins Wire is bringing you live updates, scores and highlights from the game. Follow along. Ethan Robinson makes impressive game-sealing interception The Dolphins' undrafted rookie doesn't have much of a shot of making the roster, but he showed a remarkable amount of athleticism on his game-ending interception. Dolphins' lead extended with 22-yard Jason Sanders field goal Another impressive drive led by Ewers came up just short of a third touchdown for the rookie. On a third down near the goal line, the seventh-round pick rolled to his right and tried to complete a Theo Wease Jr. hat trick, but the ball was batted away. Quinn Ewers and Theo Wease connect for another one The Dolphins rookies did it again with Ewers and Gordon leading the team down the field. And just like the last touchdown drive for Miami, Ewers found Wease in the end zone for six. Jake Bailey isn't giving up his job without a fight Bailey slightly outplayed Ryan Stonehouse in the preseason opener, but made a statement Saturday. The latter's two punts went 38 and 42 yards with one downed inside the 20. Bailey boomed 50 and 59 yarders, neither of which were returned. The 59-yard punt was downed inside the Lions' 10-yard line. Lions on top again after chip shot field goal A Hendon Hooker rushing touchdown was nullified by a holding penalty, forcing the Lions to eventually settle for a 33-yard field goal. Dolphins tie it up with a rookies-led touchdown drive An A.J. Henning punt return followed by a healthy helping of Quinn Ewers and Ollie Gordon II got the Dolphins back to even with the Lions early in the second half. Miami punctuated the drive with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Ewers to undrafted rookie Theo Wease Jr. Jordan Phillips ragdolls Hendon Hooker for a sack The Dolphins' fifth-round rookie has been a standout in camp and preseason. That continued Saturday with plenty of stout plays against the run and a ferocious sack. Lions carve up Miami on a 2-minute drill Detroit took over inside the 20-yard line with just under two minutes left in the half. In the next 80 seconds, the Lions drove 83 yards, capping it with an 11-yard touchdown from Kyle Allen to Isaac TeSlaa over Dolphins cornerback Cornell Armstrong. Dolphins turn it over on downs in the red zone There were missed opportunities aplenty for the Dolphins on what was likely their last drive of the first half. Zach Wilson missed Dee Eskridge on a deep ball and later put a ball just out of reach of Tarik Black, who was open in the end zone. On a fourth down, the Lions ended the drive with a sack of Wilson. Lions tie it up with a touchdown on 4th down After the Dolphins forced a fourth-and-7 in the red zone, the Lions rolled the dice and it paid off. Kyle Allen found a wide-open Jackson Meeks for an 11-yard touchdown. It appeared as though second-year safety Jordan Colbert was supposed to be in coverage, but got caught up by a pick play that deftly caught Colbert in traffic. Ethan Bonner exits game grabbing hamstring After an incompletion late in the first quarter, the third-year cornerback asked coaches to take him out after he reached for his left hamstring. He then went to the blue medical tent on the Dolphins' sideline and exited to the locker room. Dee Eskridge leads the way on touchdown drive After fumbling his first touch, Eskridge has settled in and been a weapon for the Dolphins offense. Two plays after weaving through the Lions defense for 27 yards on a screen pass, Eskridge got Miami on the board with an 11-yard touchdown reception. After his touchdown, Eskridge has three receptions for 53 yards. Lions rack up four penalties on first eight offensive plays Detroit has managed to move the ball, but the team's first two drives fizzled quickly due to an inability to avoid penalties. Zach Wilson got blasted on a third down The Dolphins' first offensive possession ended with a three-and-out when Wilson was drilled on third down nearly leading to an interception. Dee Eskridge fumbles on early punt return Eskridge has made a solid case for a spot on the 53-man roster, which included a highlight reel catch in practice Thursday, but it's never great to put the ball on the ground in preseason. Did the Lions troll Dolphins on opening kickoff? Backup Lions linebacker Grant Stuard raised eyebrows and stole headlines earlier in the week when he said the Dolphins don't "practice how we practice." So it doesn't seem like a coincidence that Stuard, who has never returned a regular season kickoff in his career, took the opening kick back 23 yards. Miami's top four wide receivers are sitting out Dolphins starting offensive line announced Miami's cornerback starters appear set to play Cornerback may be the most wide open competition on the Dolphins roster and coaches are taking ever opportunity to see how the position stacks up. Most Dolphins starters aren't dressed According to the Sun Sentinel, the list of players not suited up Saturday includes Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, De'Von Achane, Aaron Brewer, and Patrick Paul. The Lions are making sure the Dolphins don't forget how joint practice went The Dolphins are slightly favored vs. the Lions What TV channel is Dolphins vs. Lions on today? Streaming options for the game include Paramount+, NFL+ and Fubo, which offers a free trial. Dolphins vs. Lions start time Dolphins preseason schedule 2025 Below is Miami's preseason schedule:
