‘From skies to space': PM Modi at IATA AGM pitches India as future hub for aviation and innovation
NEW DELHI: Blending bold visions of space-age travel with grounded economic optimism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday delivered a sweeping address at the Annual General Meeting of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in Delhi, pitching India as a rising force in global aviation, and beyond.

'We now stand at a juncture where travel is no longer confined to cities on Earth,' PM Modi said. 'Humans are dreaming of commercial space flights, of interplanetary journeys, and civil aviation is at the core of this transformation.'
Speaking to top executives and global aviation leaders, the Prime Minister called the summit not just a gathering of industry minds but a launchpad for 'shared climate commitments, global cooperation and equitable growth.'
As commercial aviation inches toward space-age possibilities, PM Modi struck a futuristic tone: 'There is still some time to go, but this shows how aviation will be a centre for innovation and transformation. India is ready for it.'
He credited India's readiness to three pillars: a vast and aspirational consumer market, a youth-driven talent pool adept in AI, robotics and clean energy, and a government policy ecosystem that is open, supportive and innovation-friendly.
India's civil aviation sector, already one of the fastest-growing in the world, has become central to the government's larger ambitions of becoming a global tech and logistics hub. 'What you are discussing at this Summit will chart a new direction for aviation,' Modi told the audience. 'We must now tap the infinite possibilities of this sector and use them better.'
While India may not be launching civilians to Mars tomorrow, PM Modi's speech suggested that the country plans to play a lead role when that day comes.

16 Oppn parties urge PM for special session of Parl
New Delhi: In a rare show of unity, 16 opposition parties have come together to demand a special session of Parliament, citing the need for a free and fair discussion on national security issues and foreign policy developments after Operation Sindoor. A joint letter has been sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscoring the opposition's collective voice and sense of urgency. Addressing the media, Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien highlighted that the initiative was not taken merely at the parliamentary party level but was a consensus among the heads of 16 political parties. These include the Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP), DMK, Shiv Sena (UBT), Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (J&K NC), CPI(M), Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), CPI, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Kerala Congress, MDMK, and CPI(ML). "A free and fair discussion in Parliament is the foundation of a vibrant democracy," said O'Brien. "The government is responsible to Parliament, and Parliament is responsible to the people." He also noted that while the DMK could not attend due to the 100th birth anniversary of the late M Karunanidhi in Tamil Nadu, the party remains fully committed to the initiative. Additionally, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is expected to write separately to the Prime Minister supporting the demand. Congress MP Deepender Hooda explained that the opposition's call for a special session was intensified after the recent ceasefire announcement by the United States in a conflict region. "We want to thank our armed forces in Parliament and discuss what measures are being taken to isolate Pakistan and how we plan to move forward," he said. Sanjay Raut, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP, echoed the sentiment of unity, stating, "We can only go to our Prime Minister. We believe that when the country was facing a threat, we stood together. We hope the PM listens to us and the government doesn't politicise this."

Cairo [Egypt], June 4 (ANI): Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) or NCP SP MP Supriya Sule, who is leading the all-party delegation to Egypt, said on Tuesday that the group held a constructive meeting with Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. He reassured them that India and Egypt need to work together in peace, trade, and culture, as the two nations are uniquely placed. While interacting with local leaders, opinion makers, and think tanks in Cairo, Sule expressed gratitude to Egyptian leadership for standing firmly with India during the challenging and painful time and expressed his commitment to peace. He said that India launched Operation Sindoor under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She said that PM Modi sent seven groups of parliamentary delegations to several nations. She said, 'Under the leadership of our Prime Minister, we had Operation Sindoor, and as a part of the operation, this is an activity which the honourable Prime Minister wanted all of us to do is we have come here not as just members of parliament or ideologies. We have come as Indians here to tell the world what has really happened in India 5 weeks ago. As we are aware, the world has changed, technology has changed our lives, so it is social media, media, and the kind of information that's going around, some of it factual, some of it deep fake. So, the honourable Prime Minister made 7 groups, each group with five members of parliament, and sent them to 4 to 5 countries in the last 10 days. All these 7 groups have travelled the globe and reached out to various countries which are friends like Egypt, and I have only gratitude in my heart because the Egyptian leadership is one of the few countries which reached out to Prime Minister Modi and reassured and stood very firmly with us during our challenging, painful times and said they would condemn any such attack, and Egypt is committed to peace and would not tolerate any terrorism anywhere in the world.' We had the honour and pleasure of meeting him this morning, and he reassured us that Egypt and India need to work together. Supriya Sule noted that the delegation's visit to Egypt comes at an extraordinarily challenging time in India. She recalled how 26 innocent civilians were killed in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22. 'This trip has come as an extraordinary challenging time in India. 5 weeks ago, there was an attack on India's soul, where 26 innocent Indians who were on vacation, celebrating things, were shot at in front of their Spouses, children, and it's been an extraordinary, traumatising time for all of us in India, Mahatma Gandhi's India. India is a peace-loving country that believes in peace, harmony, and growth for all,' she said. She recalled the efforts made by the Indian government to normalise ties with Pakistan. She mentioned PM Modi had invited Pakistan Narendra Modi had invited then-Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif for the swearing-in ceremony. Highlighting the efforts made by the Indian government to normalise ties with Pakistan, Supriya Sule said, 'When this attack happened, clearly, it came as a surprise and a shock to all of us because our Prime Minister, when he first took oath in 2014, He made an effort which was a part of continuity earlier we had Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ji for 10 years, who was one of the finest leaders India has seen who reached out to all the countries, and as you're all aware, governance is continued. 'And for his oath ceremony, we invited India invited all the neighbours because it was a new beginning of a new leader and it was an outreach programme where he reached out, he invited all of them to India for the oath ceremony, and we believed that we would all work together and make sure it's a growing continent and would show peace to the whole world. So when this attack happened, data clearly showed and the evidence showed that this attack was not from very far but just our immediate neighbour, which was very unfortunate and painful for us,' she added. On Tuesday, Supriya Sule met Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in the New Administrative Capital. After the meeting concluded, Badr Abdelatty condemned the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians and said that such attacks can't be tolerated. Labelling the relationship between India and Egypt as 'historic,' Abdelatty added that Egypt and India need to enhance their economic relationship to match the excellent political relationship between the two countries and their leaders.'It was a great pleasure to receive the Parliamentary delegation from relationship is historic. But, we need to enhance further our trade investment and economic relationship to match the excellent political relationship between the two countries and their position is very clear: we condemn, in the harshest words, the terrorist attack in Kashmir. We cannot tolerate any attacks on civilians,' the Egyptian minister told ANI. The delegation, led by Supriya Sule, includes Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Vikramjeet Singh Sahney, Manish Tewari, Anurag Singh Thakur, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Anand Sharma, V Muraleedharan and Syed Akbaruddin. The Supriya Sule-led parliamentary delegation also paid a floral tribute to Indian soldiers at the Heliopolis War Memorial, who laid their lives in World War I and World War II. The delegation aims to brief international partners on India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and its broader fight against cross-border terrorism while engaging with leaders in key countries. J-K: Around 200 farmers get hands-on training in Doda under 'Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan 2025'
Bhaderwah (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 4 (ANI): The Department of Agriculture, Doda, organised a comprehensive farmer awareness programme at Bhalara Bhaderwah as part of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan 2025, where around 200 participating farmers discussed the latest technologies and different Agricultural schemes. The Director of Agriculture, Jammu, Arvinder Singh, was the chief guest on the occasion. This was organised in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to revitalise the agriculture sector. The initiative aims to empower farmers with knowledge, technology, and resources to boost productivity, ensure sustainable practices, and increase income. Sub Divisional Agricultural Officer Bhaderwah Aamir Rafiqi highlighted the government's long-term vision to make Indian agriculture globally competitive. The Prime Minister's vision for a developed India by 2047 cannot be achieved without transforming agriculture. This campaign is about creating awareness and driving real change on the ground. Director Agriculture, Jammu, Arvinder Singh, emphasised the importance of farmer-centric policies being implemented by the Government of India. He said, 'Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan is not just a campaign but a mission to ensure the transformation of Indian agriculture through scientific interventions, smart resource utilisation, and access to direct benefits.' He urged farmers to proactively engage with the departments, adopt sustainable practices, and take advantage of the numerous schemes and subsidies made available under the leadership of the Prime Minister. Arvinder Singh added that 'Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan 2025 is an opportunity for farmers to directly interact with field experts and scientists to resolve their issues and upgrade their practices. He encouraged farmers to adopt organic and climate-resilient agriculture while taking full advantage of government-supported initiatives for irrigation, seeds, fertilisers, and crop insurance. During the programme, farmers shared significant challenges including irregular rainfall, water quality issues, soil health problems, market prices and availability of quality seeds. Scientists of Krishi Vighyan Kendra Doda provided detailed information on natural farming, integrated pest management, new varieties, soil health management, crop diversification, direct-seeded rice cultivation, summer ploughing, and government schemes. 'We usually hear about government schemes, but don't always understand how to apply for them. Today, officers helped us directly that personal guidance makes a big difference,' said a farmer, Sashi Kumar. 'This is the first time I've seen such detailed information about soil health and organic farming methods in one place,' said Ravi, a farmer from Bhaderwah. 'If these methods are adopted widely, we can definitely increase our yield and income,' he added. (ANI)
