What it's like to be a Lego widow

It started innocuously enough. A 553-piece Lego kit of the Beatles and their yellow submarine, with John, Paul, George and Ringo in front of the colourful vessel. About 25 centimetres long, it fit neatly on a display shelf, although the periscope kept getting knocked off.
Things escalated quickly, though, with the Lego Saturn V rocket at 1969 pieces (get it?). At a metre high, the completed rocket was banished to the spare room, soon to be attached to an even bigger launch tower.

Social media star spreads joy to Perth hospital staff

Amid a sea of negative tales about Perth hospitals, one Canadian influencer has taken time to spread joy to local healthcare workers. John Dela Cruz, known online as Nurse John, has amassed 8.1 million followers on TikTok sharing comedy skits about his experiences working in hospitals. He has been touring the country in the Down Under leg of the Short Staffed comedy tour, with the comedian performing four sold-out shows at Subiaco's Regal Theatre last week. In a new video shared on Wednesday night, the comedian revealed that while he explored the city, he also had plans to give back to the same healthcare workers that flooded to watch his Perth show. 'We are going to visit a hospital here in Perth and we are going to bring them some pizza, I want to surprise them in their emergency department,' he said, with a clip showing the influencer carrying a stack of pizza boxes towards Royal Perth Hospital. Hospital staff in the video seemed beyond happy with the surprise treat, with a couple of workers seen chatting with the influencer. Nurse John wasn't satisfied with just one delivery, however — he had to make a pit stop south of the river and swing by Perth's largest hospital to spread some more cheer. 'We're ordering a bunch of coffee — we got 30+ coffees for Fiona Stanley Hospital!' Nurse John hand-delivered the coffees to staff at Perth's Fiona Stanley Hospital. Perth residents were quick to praise the influencer's selfless act. 'I can't imagine how happy you made all the Perth nurses!' one commenter said 'I LOVE that you visited hospitals, really shows healthcare sisters sticking together,' another praised the comic. Someone else shared their gratitude about the chosen locations: 'Thank you for taking the time to go to public hospitals — the public system has been getting swamped massively lately!' In the post's caption, Nurse John made sure to rave about his love for the Western Australian city. 'I love Perth, Australia — you guys really made me feel like a pop star and the beauty Perth has is insane! 'I cannot wait to be back, I love you WA!' The social media star fully embraced Perth culture during his performances — donning a West Coast Eagles outfit at one performance. The social media star made sure to rep one of WA's most beloved sports teams. Credit: Supplied 'Do you like my choice in jersey? Do you like my thongs? Very Perth,' he joked to the audience. The Australian leg of Nurse John's Short Staffed Tour is set to continue throughout the rest of August, with a slate of shows lined up in Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney.
