‘Peculiar Situation': HC Grants Interim Bail To Muslim Youth Who Impregnated Minor Hindu Partner
The girl is 17 while the youth is 20, both not of legal marriageable age. The HC considered the interest of the child and the girl as the families are now supportive of their union
The Allahabad High Court (HC) has granted interim bail to a 20-year-old Muslim man accused of impregnating a Hindu minor girl allegedly after a consensual relationship.
The girl, who is five months pregnant, had reportedly eloped with the accused, prompting a criminal case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act filed by her mother.
The bench of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan, on July 1, noted that while the First Information Report (FIR) pegged the girl's age at 15, a medical examination suggested she was around 17 — still below the legal marriageable age of 18. The man, too, has not attained the legal marriageable age of 21, being 20 years and 8 months old.
Despite this, the court observed that the girl is carrying the applicant's child and both families are now supportive of their union. In this 'peculiar fact situation", the judge said, the interest of the unborn child and the girl must be considered.
The applicant was therefore granted interim bail for two months so that he may support and take care of the girl during her pregnancy.
The couple's interfaith background added legal complexity. Since the man is Hindu and the girl is Muslim, the court clarified that any lawful marriage between them would have to be conducted under the Special Marriage Act. However, being minors in the eyes of marriage law, they are currently ineligible to marry legally.
Both the girl and her mother are to appear in court on September 3, 2025, to inform the judge whether the man is fulfilling his responsibility and whether the girl is satisfied with his conduct. The interim bail may be made permanent depending on their feedback, court noted.

Cybercrime a ‘silent virus' threatening digital India: High court
Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana high court has held that cybercrimes pose a systemic threat to digital trust and economic security, likening their impact to a "silent virus" undermining national progress. "Indeed, cybercrime in our nation operates akin to a silent virus, insidious, disruptive, and exacting a toll on society that extends far beyond mere pecuniary loss, encompassing the bedrock of trust, security, and national progress," the HC held. Justice Sumeet Goel made these obervations while dismissing the anticipatory bail plea filed by Suhail, 22, in connection with a cyber fraud case registered in the Narnaul area of Mahendragarh district in Haryana. An FIR was registered on Sept 16, 2024, following a complaint filed by Udai Singh, who reported unauthorised withdrawals of Rs 25 lakh from his joint bank account with Punjab National Bank, Narnaul. According to the complaint, multiple fraudulent transactions occurred on Aug 9 and 10, 2024, without the complainant's knowledge or consent. The funds were allegedly siphoned via RTGS and IMPS transfers. Despite receiving suspicious phone calls purporting to be from bank officials, the complainant initially believed he settled his loan dues, only to later uncover the massive fraud. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Hotel and Hospitality Management Degrees Prepare Students for Diverse Roles Visionary Echo Search Now Undo The police investigation revealed that Rs 10 lakh of the misappropriated amount was traced to a Union Bank account registered in the name of the petitioner. Police submitted that custodial interrogation was crucial to uncovering the wider conspiracy, identifying accomplices, and recovering the siphoned funds. However, the petitioner's counsel contended that he had no direct role in the transactions and was mentally unfit to manage financial affairs due to a long-standing neurological condition. After hearing all the parties, the HC held that given the inherent nature and profound gravity of such offences and their wide-ranging cascading effects on both society and financial institutions, the court found itself disinclined to grant the relief of anticipatory bail. The material which came on record and preliminary investigation appeared to establish a reasonable basis for the accusations, held the HC while declining bail to the accused. "The deleterious consequences of cybercrimes transcend individual boundaries, imperilling numerous unsuspecting citizens. The gravity of such transgressions cannot, therefore, be understated. They not only jeopardise the financial security and trust reposed by individuals in financial payment gateways and platforms but also inherently expose the broader populace to analogous threats," observed the judge in its detailed order released on Friday. QUOTE BOX: "The proliferation of online frauds and cybercrimes poses a significant threat, as it systematically erodes public confidence in digital financial transaction platforms. Such erosion runs counter to the aspirations of an advanced and digitally empowered 'Digital Bharat' and thus warrants a heightened degree of judicial circumspection," Justice Sumeet Goel. Chandigarh administration to provide monthly financial aid to acid attack victims
Chandigarh: The UT administration has decided to pay Rs 10,000 per month as financial assistance to acid attack victims in Chandigarh. This assistance will be given to the victims for their lifetime. Formal information in this regard was made on Friday before the Punjab and Haryana high court by Anuradha S Chagti, secretary, social welfare women & child development, Chandigarh. A scheme, 'SAHAS' (Support and Assistance for Healing Acid Survivors), has been prepared and sent for final approval to the competent authority. Under this scheme, the monthly financial assistance of Rs 10,000 will be provided to acid attack victims. The concurrence from the finance department, Chandigarh, has been received, the UT informed the court. The Chandigarh administration filed this reply in response to a contempt of court petition filed by advocate and rights activist H C Arora against the home secretary. The affidavit filed by the administration was also accompanied by a draft notification. The HC was assured that the final notification would be issued in a day or two after it is signed by the administrator. Arora alleged that in a PIL filed by him, the UT administration undertook to pay monthly financial assistance to acid attack victims at the rate it is paid by Punjab and Haryana, but it did not keep its promise. Punjab has already been paying a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 since 2016. Taking cognisance of the contempt petition, the HC asked the UT administration to file a reply for the alleged defiance of the assurance given to the court.

Assault on ‘kathavachak' in Etawah achallenge to Hindutva, says VHP chief
Lucknow: Days after a 'kathavachak' (religious storyteller) and his associate from the Yadav community were allegedly assaulted by a group of men from the upper caste in Etawah, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) international president Alok Kumar on Thursday said "the incident was no less than a challenge to the entire Hindutva and Dharma-shashtras". "We need to be cautious. Such acts by certain individuals are reprehensible," Kumar told TOI, adding that the Etawah incident was nothing short of a "concerted" attempt to incite disharmony between different sections of society. He asserted that such incidents should not intentionally be portrayed to create disharmony between the Yadavs and Brahmins. "Harmony should be maintained. The law should be maintained. And this right of all Hindus to worship, to preach, to be a pundit in a temple is inviolable and cannot be compromised," Kumar said, adding that it must be understood that no one can be stopped from preaching and reciting 'katha'. Experts said that Kumar sought to frame the incident not merely as a caste-related atrocity, but as a violation of Hinduism itself, potentially seeking to reframe the narrative from a caste conflict to one of unity under the larger Hindu fold. His emphasis on harmony and law, analysts said, reflected VHP's pointed attempt to prevent the local incident from becoming a symbol of systemic caste oppression — a narrative that could damage the image of Hindu unity, especially in the politically-sensitive Uttar Pradesh. Kumar said that the Etawah incident was highly painful. "Bhagwan to sabke hain… sab Bhagwan ke hain aur Bhagwan ne sabko saman adhikar diya hai," he said, stressing that the VHP strongly condemned the incident and demanded strict punishment for the accused as early as possible. The VHP chief said that the Yogi Adityanath govt was taking appropriate action against the accused. At the same time, he said, one needs to exercise restraint from taking political mileage from the incident. He said that 'dharma' was primarily meant to unite people and not to create divisions. "Therefore, the divide which has been created because of such incidents should be bridged." Kumar said that the VHP was already imparting six months of training to Scheduled Tribes vis-à-vis religious storytelling. "Bhagwan par unka adhik adhikar hai kyunki Bhagwan bhi apne kartavya ke liye 14 saal jungle mein rahe they…," he said, referring to Ram who spent 14 years in the forest during his exile. He further said that the VHP was also running a 'Ved Vidyalaya' in Odisha. The institution, he said, was primarily attended by women of the ST community.
