50 Attacks In 24 Hours: Baloch Separatists Launch Operation 'BAAM' Against Pakistan Army
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) announced that 18 Pakistani soldiers were killed in an attack on a military camp in Gidar. Baloch separatists have launched Operation 'BAAM', also calling it Operation Dawn, against Pakistani Army. In the past 24 hours, there have been over 50 attacks, numerous kidnappings, and more than 27 deaths reported across Balochistan. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) announced that 18 Pakistani soldiers were killed in an attack on a military camp in Gidar. Baloch armed groups have escalated their tactics from traditional guerrilla warfare to more organised, territorial assaults. In a particularly harrowing incident, nine Punjabi passengers were forcibly removed from buses and killed in the Zhob area on Thursday evening. Government officials stated that unidentified armed men set up a blockade, checked identity cards, and executed the passengers. The BLA has also claimed responsibility for a large-scale attack on a military camp in the Gidar area of Suhrab district, stating that 18 security personnel were killed. According to Balochistan officials, around 20 people are missing and are believed to have been kidnapped by the separatists. Attacks have been reported from areas including Kech, Kharan, Khuzdar, Kalat, Panjgur, Washuk, Musakhel, Sibi, Mastung, Naseerabad, Quetta, Chagai, and Dera Bugti. The Balochistan provincial government has acknowledged this surge in violence and stated that security operations are ongoing in response. However, independent observers note that the scale and coordination of these attacks are becoming increasingly challenging for authorities to control. This reflects a significant evolution in the operational capabilities of Baloch armed groups, who are now moving from guerrilla tactics to more organised, territorial forms of control. view comments First Published: July 11, 2025, 15:05 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Balochistan Liberation Front says ‘Op Baam' complete after 84 attacks on Pakistani forces
According to The Balochistan Post, the BLF claims that at least 50 personnel of the Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps were killed and over 51 others injured. The group further asserted that nine alleged intelligence agents were executed at a checkpoint in the Musakhel region. In a statement issued Friday evening, BLF spokesperson Major Gwahram Baloch said the attacks occurred between July 9 and July 11, targeting Pakistani military personnel, intelligence operatives, and key state infrastructure. Balochistan: The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) has claimed responsibility for a sweeping wave of armed assaults across Balochistan, declaring the 'successful completion' of Operation Baam, a large-scale military campaign involving 84 coordinated attacks over two days, The Balochistan Post reported. The BLF detailed its operations, saying it carried out over 30 direct assaults, including four ambushes, striking personnel and installations of the Pakistan Army, Military Intelligence (MI), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), police, Levies, and Customs forces. It also reported that 25 vehicles, including gas tankers and mineral transport trucks, were destroyed or rendered unusable. The group further claimed responsibility for torching seven mobile towers, downing five surveillance drones, and damaging a government bus and a local bank, according to The Balochistan Post. As part of the offensive, the BLF said it established 22 temporary checkpoints across several strategic zones: Makuran, Rakhshan, Sarawan, Jhalawan, Koh-e-Sulaiman, Bela, and Kachhi, briefly asserting control and seizing weapons. In another statement, the BLF described Operation Baam as a 'strategic transformation' of its military doctrine aimed at 'crippling the colonial administrative structure' of what it called the 'Punjabi-occupied Pakistani state'. The statement, cited by The Balochistan Post, asserted that Pakistan could no longer maintain its grip on Balochistan 'through violence, propaganda, or the illusion of parliamentary democracy'. It denounced the state's exploitation of Balochistan's resources and marginalisation of its people through 'Punjabi chauvinism and fascism'. 'Balochistan will no longer be the provider of golden eggs to a parasitic state,' the BLF warned, adding that continued oppression would bring 'escalating repercussions'. The group hailed Operation Baam as a 'milestone in the national liberation movement', signalling what it described as a new phase of organised resistance. "Institutional apathy, criminal complicity": Pawan Khera slams "Double Engine Sarkar" on Balasore self-immolation case
New Delhi [India], July 13 (ANI): Congress leader Pawan Khera on Sunday slammed the 'Double Engine Sarkar' highlighting the institutional apathy and criminal complicity after a young woman in Odisha was driven to self-immolation facing relentless sexual harassment by her college Head of Department (HoD). He said that despite her repeated pleas for help, including to the Principal, Internal Complaints Committee, and even the Chief Minister and Education Minister on social media, her complaints fell on deaf ears. A student of the Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College in Odisha's Balasore was admitted to the AIIMS Bhubaneswar hospital on July 12 after she allegedly self-immolated. Khera stressed that the victim's complaints were ignored, and even a BJP MP's demand for the HoD's suspension was brushed aside by the college Principal. 'A BJP MP had demanded the HoD's suspension but even he was brushed aside - by the college Principal. As such, it is safe to call the Double Engine Sarkar a cruel joke. Because it does not even empower a local MP from the ruling party enough to prevail over a college Principal in a matter so crucial and sensitive', Pawan Khera's 'X' post read. BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi on Saturday informed that he was told about the matter by the woman and her friends, following which he spoke to the college principal and the Superintendent of Police of Balasore. Sarangi said that the woman had attempted suicide before as well, and when he heard the news, the BJP MP said he called the college principal, but there was no response. 'It is a national tragedy that a young woman in Odisha was forced to set herself on fire after facing relentless sexual harassment by her college HoD. She pleaded for help - informally to the Principal, formally to the Internal Complaints Committee, and publicly to the CM and Education Minister on social media. Yet, her complaints went unheard', Pawan Khera wrote on 'X'. Pawan Khera termed the incident a 'criminal complicity' and demanded strict action against the accused, HoD, and others involved in the Balasore self-immolation case. 'This is institutional apathy but even more, it is criminal complicity. The culprit, HoD must face the law for driving a woman to self-immolation, but the Principal and the ICC must also be held accountable - not merely for negligence, but for abutment', Khera wrote on 'X'. Pawan Khera claimed that the victim was an Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad office bearer in a BJP ruled state and mentioned that if this is the 'fate' of their 'own woman' what can ordinary women do with no access to networks of power. 'Notably, the victim was an ABVP office bearer in a BJP-ruled state. If this is the fate of their own, what can ordinary women - with no access to networks of power - in Odisha, and beyond, possibly expect?', Khera added. Earlier today AIIMS Bhubaneswar, Director Dr Ashutosh Biswas assured that the medical team is providing the best possible care to the patient of the Balasore self-immolation case. The student was admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar with severe burns, covering almost 90-95% of her body. She is currently on a ventilator in the ICU, and her condition is critical. 'Yesterday, we received the patient in critical condition. The patient is on a ventilator in the ICU. She has almost 90-95 per cent burns. The patient is critical, we are trying our best. We are providing the best possible care to the patient. A committee has been formed to look after various aspects, multi-disciplinary critical care...,' Dr Biswas told ANI. Balasore Police on Saturday arrested the accused in the FM (Auto) College female student self-immolation attempt case and produced her before the court. Meanwhile, the Odisha government have formed a committee to conduct a thorough inquiry into the alleged harassment case against Samira Kumar Sahu, Assistant Professor at FM Auto College, who has been arrested following the suicide attempt by a female student of the college on July 12.
