Gucci celebrates its roots with Cruise 2026 show in historic archive
"Returning to Florence — particularly to Palazzo Settimanni — is both a tribute and a statement of intent," said Stefano Cantino, CEO of Gucci. "The archive is not only the guardian of our past, but a dynamic space where Gucci's identity codes intertwine and are renewed through constantly evolving interpretations. Presenting the Cruise 2026 collection here means renewing our connection with our cultural and artisanal roots, projecting them with coherence and ambition toward the future."
Nestled in the heart of Florence's Oltrarno district, Palazzo Settimanni has belonged to Gucci since 1953. Over the decades, it has housed ateliers, workshops, and showrooms. Since 2021, the historic building has also served as home to the Gucci Archive—meticulously restored to showcase the richness of its layered architecture and preserve the maison's most iconic creations.
Florence's mayor, Sara Funaro, expressed pride in hosting the event:
"We are proud to host Gucci's Cruise collection show in Florence — an extraordinary event in the city where the brand was born, and in the place that best tells its story, the archive in Palazzo Settimanni, in the charming and distinctive Oltrarno district."
"A location full of history and meaning, situated in the part of the city where the artisanal vocation is most deeply felt and present — a strong identity trait we are committed to enhancing. The bond between Gucci and Florence is deep and has never been broken despite the maison's international success."
"This will be a homecoming for a brand that, in reality, never truly left this home — a brand that has always kept its roots alive and constantly strengthened its relationship with our region, not only through important production hubs but also through iconic locations that have enriched our city's streets."
"This event also highlights Florence's central role in the fashion system, thanks to excellences like the Gucci maison. We are talking about a crucial sector for our local economy, which is going through a complex moment, but has always been rich in great expertise and capable of facing the present and future challenges."
In conjunction with the Cruise 2026 show, Gucci will reaffirm its commitment to Florence by contributing to the Estate Fiorentina 2026 cultural initiative and Parco delle Cascine's redevelopment.

Trump reverses course on Intel CEO amid US-China chip showdown
US President Donald Trump pivoted from calling for Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan's resignation to hosting him at the White House, turning a public rebuke over China ties into an opportunity to pull one of America's most prominent tech leaders into his orbit. Once the undisputed leader in microchip production, Intel stumbled in recent years and lost ground to Asian rivals, facing delays in advanced manufacturing. Trump confirmed the meeting via a post on Truth Social, calling the meeting a "very interesting one". Intel also confirmed that the meeting took place in a statement published on Tuesday. "Mr. Tan had the honour of meeting with President Trump for a candid and constructive discussion on Intel's commitment to strengthening US technology and manufacturing leadership," said the firm. "[We] look forward to working closely with him and his administration as we restore this great American company." As of 13.00 CEST, Intel shares were up 2.9% in pre-market trading on Tuesday, after jumping roughly 3.5% on Monday. Falling behind rivals For decades, Intel set the pace for microprocessor innovation — especially for PCs — but in the late 2010s, it fell behind Taiwan's TSMC and South Korea's Samsung in manufacturing cutting-edge chips. Repeated delays in rolling out its 10-nanometer and 7-nanometer processors damaged its reputation and eroded customer trust. Intel is also caught in the ongoing US–China tech rivalry, with Washington pushing it to build domestic capacity while restricting Chinese access to advanced chips. The perceived China ties of CEO Lip-Bu Tan due to his venture capital background led to an initially frosty reception from Trump. Ties to China Trump called for Tan's resignation last week after US Senator Tom Cotton wrote to Intel's board, raising concerns over what he described as 'Tan's investments and ties to semiconductor firms reportedly linked to the Chinese Communist Party and the People's Liberation Army". Tan previously led Cadence Design Systems, from 2009 until 2021, which in July reached a plea deal with the government over allegations of illegal exports to China. Cadence said it it violated export controls rules to sell hardware and software to China's National University of Defense Technology, which is linked to the Chinese military. Lip-Bu Tan is a Malaysian-born US citizen who founded the Silicon Valley–based firm Walden International in 1987 and has invested heavily in semiconductor start-ups across Asia, including extensive involvement in China. Through these investments, he became a seed investor in SMIC, China's largest chip foundry, joining its board from 2001 to 2018. SMIC later came under US sanctions for its close ties to the Chinese military. When President Trump publicly demanded Tan's resignation last week due to his alleged ties with Chinese firms, Intel shares dropped more than 3% during intra‑day trading.

S&P Global revises credit outlook for Gucci owner Kering to negative from stable
S&P Global has revised its credit outlook for luxury goods group Kering S.A. to negative from stable, the ratings agency said on Monday, after sales of Kering's Gucci brand and other products declined in the first half of the year. In a report on Kering's investment grade credit rating, S&P analysts highlighted weakening consumer demand for the French group's luxury apparel across key markets, most notably a 22% year-on-year decline in revenue in the Asia-Pacific and China. The analysts added that Kering had underperformed peers such as LVMH, Dior and Hermes so far this year. Sales of Kering's flagship Gucci brand, which made up over half of its core earnings (EBITDA) last year, fell by a quarter in the first half of 2025, the analysts added. S&P maintained Kering's long-term issuer credit ratings at BBB+, which lies toward the lower end of the high-grade ratings spectrum. "The negative outlook reflects Kering's reduced rating headroom stemming from ongoing pressures in its operating performance, execution risks associated with the company's turnaround initiatives, amid a subdued industry environment," the analysts wrote. Kering in June announced it appointed as its new CEO Luca de Meo, former CEO of French automaker Renault Group, who will take office in mid-September.
