Shaun Ryder says THIS Scottish singer is his 'f****** hero'
The Manchester-born star continued: "A lot of my favourite bands come from Scotland and Glasgow."
(Image: Picture credit: Paul Husband) However, most of these bands will be from the past.
As Shaun, 62, humorously explained: 'Don't ask me about any new bands, I can't remember any of them.
"Bez (of Happy Mondays and Black Grape) and I were doing the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards in Manchester, and we didn't have a clue who most of the artists were. We only knew Busta Rhymes.
'My kids knew who everyone was, but we didn't have a clue."
(Image: Picture credit: Paul Husband) Shaun, who is the lead singer for both Black Grape and Happy Mondays, will be coming to the city on November 28 with Black Grape to perform at the Queen Margaret Union.
The show will celebrate 30 years since the release of the band's debut studio album, It's Great When You're Straight... Yeah!
'I remember how it all started with that record," Shaun said.
He added: '(Paul 'Kermit' Leveridge) and I flew over to Los Angeles and we made the album. We had a great time making it.
"I say it all the time, but that first Black Grape album really should have been the last Happy Mondays album."

Shaun formed Black Grape in 1993 following the disintegration of Happy Mondays.
Black Grape was Shaun's first musical project since the split of the Step On hitmakers and was intended to draw a line between his past life and his new one.
However, Happy Mondays has split up and got back together multiple times over the last few years.
(Image: Picture credit: Paul Husband) The upcoming Glasgow gig comes after Shaun played two nights at the Barrowland Ballroom with Happy Mondays last year.
Speaking about the famous East End venue, Shaun said: "The Barrowlands was a f****** great night.
'Glasgow is just brilliant, it's always great."
He also shared his thoughts on the space around the Barrowland.
He said: 'There's all this land around the Barrowland and I always thought it would be turned into some kind of 'Northern Quarter' like in Manchester, but it never has."
(Image: Picture credit: Paul Husband) Despite his long career in the industry, Shaun says he enjoys making music and performing now more than ever.
He added: 'I get asked a lot if I miss the old days, and yes, I had a great time, but it's just brilliant to still be in this f****** mad world and business.'
Shaun went on to reveal that Black Grape will be doing another album next year, and that he is currently making the new Happy Mondays record.

Scottish TikToker to do 'biggest challenge yet' after meeting hero
Kieran Taylor will embark on a 56-mile-long cycle next month to raise funds for Maggie's, a cancer charity, despite never having ridden on the roads before. The 25-year-old from Airdrie is taking part in the Tour de 4 and revealed that his motivation to complete the cycling challenge was sparked when he met Sir Chris Hoy earlier this year. Kieran training for the event (Image: Kieran Taylor) Kieran commented: 'I met him in March at 'An Evening with Sir Chris Hoy' in Glasgow. I told him he inspired me to start my sports journey, and he was very interested in what I was doing. 'Throughout the evening he was talking about the Tour de 4 and I just thought 'I'll do it'. There are four different routes, and me, being a guy up for a challenge, I said I was going to take on the toughest one of them all, the 56-mile-long ride. 'It's amazing, he's managed to organise an event to change perceptions around cancer. To cycle with the guy I look up to, who inspired me to do sport in the first place, is awesome. 'He's a hero. I want to put 110 per cent into this. The pain I will experience in the weeks before and after the challenge is nothing compared to what anyone with cancer is going through.' READ NEXT: Still Game legend revealed thoughts on film rumours The Tour de 4 is a cycling event created by Sir Chris Hoy following his diagnosis with Stage 4 prostate cancer in September 2023. It is being held to show that whilst devastating, a Stage 4 diagnosis 'doesn't define the limits of what's possible'. There are four different rides that participants can take part in. The red ride – which Kieran is undertaking – spanning 56 miles, the blue ride totalling just under 38 miles, the green ride which is a family route of one kilometre, and the yellow ride which is completed on static bikes. Kieran explained that not only is he excited to be riding alongside his hero, but he is looking forward to raising awareness of the work carried out by Maggie's. Kieran at Maggie's Centre in Glasgow (Image: Kieran Taylor) The charity, which has a base at Gartnavel General Hospital in Glasgow's West End, provides vital care to people diagnosed with cancer and their loved ones. Kieran told the Glasgow Times that Maggie's supported him through a difficult time, and he has now launched a GoFundMe page to raise funds to support them. It has so far raised £95. Kieran added: 'A lot of my family members have had cancer over the years. Maggie's helped me with a lot of that. 'They are a well-known charity, but I don't think everyone understands what they actually do. People might not know how far their support goes; it's incredible. 'They provide counselling, massages, a café which lets patients socialise, and they do stuff for people like me who have additional support needs. 'I've done plenty of sponsored walks, runs, and half marathons, but this is the biggest fight I've had to put my body through mentally and physically.' Over the past few weeks, he says he has upped his training and has been scouting out the route in preparation. Parts of his journey have been documented on his TikTok account. He said: 'My training started very light with me going to the gym. The staff have been helping me make sure I can get the best time possible. 'I've upped my training to do some running, and I'm going out to do a scout of the route so I can get a good idea of the braking points and gear changes. 'I've never done road cycling before. I'm not a cyclist, so this is the first time I will be out on the road. "My motivation is Sir Chris Hoy.' To view Kieran's GoFundMe page, visit HERE.

The blockbuster has moved the set from Bothwell Street and continues to draw crowds of hundreds of people hoping to catch a glimpse of the web-slinging superhero. Tom Holland has returned to his role as Peter Parker, aka the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man. And today's filming saw another death-defying stunt for Spidey as he was snapped hanging from the side of a tank, which was seen driving at high speed toward a bus of screaming people. 7 pictures from Spider-Man set in Glasgow St Vincent Street (Image: Andrew Milligan) READ MORE: 'It feels different' Tom Holland opens up on filming Spider-Man in Glasgow READ MORE: Moment tank speeds toward bus on Spider-Man set as filming moves location READ MORE: What Tom Holland and Spider-Man crew are eating on city centre set revealed We reported earlier today how he recently spoke out about filming Spider-Man in Glasgow, admitting it "feels different this time" on set. The new film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which sees Tom continue his role as Peter Parker, has generated a serious buzz in the city since filming began at the start of the month. Hundreds of fans have flocked to the set on Bothwell Street and now St Vincent Street to catch a glimpse of the web-slinging superhero. And it's not only the fans who've been excited by the filming, as leading man Tom has revealed his own excitement and the feeling of "pressure." (Image: Andrew Milligan) (Image: Andrew Milligan/PA Wire) (Image: Andrew Milligan) (Image: Andrew Milligan) (Image: Andrew Milligan) (Image: Andrew Milligan) It comes as yesterday, August 10, a stunt was set up, and a few familiar vehicles could be seen flying up the street at high speed. The 'tank', which has been heavily featured so far during filming, has been shifted over to the new set, and onlookers gasped as it sped up St Vincent Street with a cloud of reek behind it. From other viewpoints, you can see that it is travelling towards a double-decker sightseeing bus at full revs. The actors on top of the bus could be heard screaming as damaged cars lay strewn across the street, and other motorists sped to get out of the way.
