Pakistan betray China? denies big deal of major fighter jet…, Is it dragon's strategy or Islamabad's ‘U' turn?

India.com5 days ago
Pakistan has officially denied reports claiming about its deal with China to procure the fifth-generation J-35A stealth fighter jets. There were media reports that Chinese weapons were used by Pakistan against India during Operation Sindoor. While global media suggested Pakistan was set to become the first foreign buyer of China's J-35A stealth jets, Islamabad dismissed these claims as mere speculation. Is It Chinese Strategy?
Media reports also claim that these rumors may have been part of a Chinese strategy to promote the J-35A globally and attract potential buyers. The denial comes at a time when there are also reports that China is attempting to discredit France's Rafale fighter jets. Rafales were reportedly used during Operation Sindoor between India and Pakistan in May. According to a French intelligence agency, Chinese defense officials posted in foreign embassies have been instructed to question the Rafale's performance possibly to prevent countries like Indonesia from increasing their orders and to create market space for Chinese aircraft. Pakistan And China Deal
According to Bloomberg and other international media outlets report, in June 2025 that Pakistan was ready to purchase the J-35A stealth jets developed by China's Shenyang Aircraft Corporation. The reports claimed Pakistan would be the first foreign buyer. After this, the shares of AVIC (parent company of Shenyang Aircraft Corporation) surged by 10%, indicating anticipated success in Chinese defense exports.
Earlier reports suggested Pakistan was planning to buy 40 J-35A jets at a discounted price under a 'flash sale' offer. Delivery was expected to begin by August 2025, with flexible payment terms. The J-35A is equipped with AESA radar and PL-17 long-range missiles, and its capabilities are often compared to the American F-35. Pakistan Denies Deal
In a television interview, Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif categorically denied any such agreement. He hinted that the entire narrative might be a move to promote China's defense industry.
Despite the denial, some reports citing unidentified defense sources previously claimed that the Pakistan Air Force had approved the purchase and pilot training had already begun in China. It was also reported that the J-35A was being considered to counter India's Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program, which is expected to roll out only after 2035.

India rapidly moving towards becoming world's third-largest economy: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that India is rapidly moving towards becoming the world's third-largest economy, adding that the country has made progress across every sector in the last 11 years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke about the rapid growth in defence production, especially after Operation Sindoor.(DD) Speaking at the 16th edition of the Rozgar Mela, the Prime Minister said that India's manufacturing sector is one of its "greatest strength" and that the government has taken steps to boost employment in the private sector. "The focus of the Indian government is also on creating new employment opportunities in the private sector. Recently, the government has approved a new scheme - the Employment Linked Incentive scheme. Under this scheme, the government will provide ₹15,000 to youth securing their first job in the private sector, meaning the government will contribute to the first salary of their first job. For this, the government has allocated a budget of about ₹1 lakh crore, and this scheme will help in creating approximately 3.5 crore jobs," he said. A large number of new jobs are being created in manufacturing... To boost the manufacturing sector, Mission Manufacturing has been announced in this year Budget. In recent years, we have strengthened the Make in India campaign." The Prime Minister said that two sectors in particular, electronics and mobile phone manufacturing, and defence manufacturing, have seen massive growth. "From PLI scheme, 11 lakh jobs were created. In the recent years, mobile phones and electronic sectors saw unprecedented expansion. Today, electronics worth ₹11 lakh crores are being manufactured. This sector has witnessed growth of more than 5 times in the last 11 years. Earlier, there were only 2-4 units of mobile phone manufacturing. Now, the number has increased to 300 units where lakhs of youth are working..." He also spoke about the rapid growth in defence production, especially after Operation Sindoor: "There is one more such sector and after Operation Sindoor, it has been widely discussed. It is defence manufacturing. India is making new records in defence manufacturing. Our defence production has reached beyond ₹1.25 lakh crores... Today, our country is rapidly moving towards becoming the world's third-largest economy. This is the marvel of the hard work of my youth. In the past 11 years, India has made progress across every sector," he said. Quoting a report by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the Prime Minister said that government welfare schemes have also helped boost employment. "Recently, a report by the International Labour Organisation stated that in the past decade, over 90 crore citizens in India have been brought under the coverage of welfare schemes. The impact of these schemes goes beyond welfare -- they have also contributed significantly to employment generation. For instance, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, over 4 crore houses have been built so far. And it's not just about providing homes. The process of building these houses has created countless job opportunities across the country. In this, most of the jobs were created in villages," PM Modi added. (ANI)

Centre to provide technology to private factories to ramp up rare earth magnet production after China's decision to impose export controls

The Centre is trying to make available technology in three to four months to different private factories to ramp up rare earth magnets production in India, said Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G Kishan Reddy . "We used to be 100% dependent on China for permanent magnets of the rare earths. But recently, China has refused to supply. With this view, the Indian government is making efforts for permanent magnet manufacturing," Kishan Reddy told ANI. "Our mining ministry's institute in Hyderabad has made efforts and prepared a permanent magnet processing unit with equipment. After three to four months, we will try to manufacture permanent magnets by giving the technology to different private factories. For this, the Indian government has also started some PLI schemes to encourage it. We are paying attention to this subject," he added. He said that PM Modi has continuously discussed the production of magnets in India. "Recently, during his (PM Modi) visit to 5 countries, discussions were held with different countries on this subject. The raw material of rare earth is also available in less quantity in India. Importing that raw material, processing it, making permanent magnets for it, which is used from cell phones to space technology, including defence, there is a huge demand for this. The Indian government is working seriously for this. This scheme has also been brought under it," he said. Live Events The central government has earmarked Rs 1,345 crore to incentivise rare earth magnets production in India, aimed at building domestic capacity when there are reports of global short supply. Early this April, China announced a decision to implement export controls on certain rare earth-related items, pushing a supply shortage across the world, including India. India was in touch with the Chinese side, seeking predictability in the supply of rare earth metals -- which had been put under the export controls regime by the Xi administration. China's overwhelming control of global rare earth processing - commanding over 90 per cent of the world's magnet production capacity - has created significant vulnerabilities for industries worldwide. These materials are critical across multiple sectors, including automobiles, home appliances, and clean energy systems. Beyond China, there are only a few alternative suppliers of critical minerals. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the setting up of the Critical Mineral Mission in the Union Budget for 2024-25 on July 23, 2024. The Union Cabinet in January 2025 approved the launch of the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM) with an expenditure of Rs 16,300 crore and an expected investment of Rs 18,000 crore by Public Sector Undertakings.

Jaishankar to visit China next week in first visit since LAC standoff

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will travel to Tianjin, China, next week to attend the foreign ministers' meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), nearly two weeks after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited the country for the SCO defence ministers' summit. 'The Meeting of the Council of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the SCO will be held in Tianjin on July 15,' a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said in an official statement on Saturday, news agency PTI reported. Jaishankar will also pay a bilateral visit to China during the trip, though details of that visit were not specified. The Chinese Foreign Ministry noted that foreign ministers of SCO member states and heads of the bloc's permanent bodies 'will exchange views on SCO cooperation in various fields and major international and regional issues.' The SCO includes 10 members: China, Russia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus. This will be Jaishankar's first visit to China since the 2020 military standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, which severely strained bilateral ties. Rajnath Singh was in Qingdao last month for the SCO defence ministers' meeting, where he met Chinese Defence Minister Gen Dong Jun on June 26. During those talks, Singh proposed a 'structured roadmap' to de-escalate tensions and rejuvenate border demarcation mechanisms. He stressed the importance of 'taking action on the ground' to bridge the 'trust deficit' from the 2020 standoff and called for creating 'good neighbourly conditions' for mutual benefit. As per a report by PTI, responding to Singh's remarks, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said: 'The boundary question is complicated, and it takes time to settle it.' The two countries completed disengagement from Demchok and Depsang in October 2021, effectively ending the border face-off. The decision to revive talks, including the SR mechanism, was taken during the Modi-Xi Jinping meeting in Kazan, Russia, on October 23, just days after the disengagement pact was sealed. In recent months, both countries have taken several steps to improve ties, including the resumption of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra after a nearly five-year gap.
